Native Americans Of RDR2 Online

This is my Mohawk character, temporarily called Okwaho. I know that Mohawk live in the north, but they are the tribe I am most familiar with after appearing in several other games.

 

 

If anyone here has knowledge of Mohawk language, please help me with his name. I'm going for something along the line of "He plays with a wolf", but can't find any resources on Mohawk naming convention. Any help would be very appreciated.

Badass looking character!

 

Glad someone else is having their character be of Kanien'kéha. There doesn't seem to be too many!

 

So the main issue with having a Mohawk name is that they're made up personally and individually. So you'll never see two Mohawks named the same. Only chance of this happening is if the aforementioned is deceased. Example of not knowing how to name the character, Ubisoft, had to speak to a Mohawk consultant and residents of a Mohawk village to name their character. The consultant and others named him Ratonhnhaké:ton. So it's quite hard to find a name that has the meaning that you'd want. Least that I can find.

 

But going outside of names, My knowledge of the language doesn't extend /that/ far. But I know some 'Wolf' words which might give the same vibe, if you will. Perhaps one of these will be something you like

 

If not, I do apologize for not having the correct name.

 

 

Okwaho’kó:wa which translates to Timber Wolf. 

 

Wakkwá:ho which means 'I am Wolf clan' - there being 3 clans in Kanien'kéha. (wolf, turtle, bear) - This one is probably closest to what you may want. Sounds cool too.

 

Ronathahí:non - Which I believe is another name for Wolf, but this one is used for humans rather than the animal. 

 

And of course, your current one. Ohkwaho. 

 

There isn't a huge amount of Kanien'kéha sentences, very much am endangered language. But I'll keep up the search and see if I can find something more fitting.

I have always loved the Kanien'kéha. The Iroquois Confederacy (which I'm sure everyone knows the Mohawks are a part of) is my favorite faction in so many games, including AC3, Age of Empire 3 and Civ 5. I played Age of Empire 3 religiously as a kid and the two campaigns that had the Mohawks as the supporting/protagonist faction were my favorite.

 

Again, thank you so much for the names. I'd probably go with Timber Wolf or I am Wolf clan. The third one sounds great too.

Oh! Pretty flattered tbh, but I'm not actually a Mohawk. Just very interested in their language and culture. Hoping to learn more about it one day.  AC3 is what kickstarted my interest in it too.

I made an second account, so I can make an Apache as they were the most aggressive at defending their homeland. So watch out white man. Probably make quite a few attacks on smaller town npcs. Might carry a bounty. Won’t actively grief players, but will make a point to attack other player missions in progress only if in the vicinity, for role playing sake.
 

Not to steal their work either, so if they stop my attack, I’ll stay away. If I manage to win the attack, I’ll burn the wagon and leave. ( still sounds mean, I’m sure, but them’s the ropes in a pvp environment.)

Had a photoshoot meetup with some other members of the Tribal Gaming group on Xbox and I have to say it was pretty cool playing with a group of other native players. I play lone wolf 90% of the time so it was a nice change!

Just recently rewatched two of my favorite movies, Last of the Mohicans and Dances with Wolves to get some inspiration for my character story. Watching these movies made me really wish we could get more Native American themed things into the game. I know both of these movies take place a considerable amount of time before RDO takes place, but some of these aspects could be implemented into online. Some examples are more  long hairstyles, earrings, tattoos, war paint, and feathers.

Wow it has been a while since i have looked at this this, so many reply's. I am thinking of creating a discord for Native players to meet up and play together on all platforms. I come from the GTA biker community when it used to be good. In the early days of that we all got along and it was great fun, but as soon as all the hardcore TDM players started making all sorts of clubs, the community become very saturated. People ended up joining because that's how you played good free aim pvp players, not because they wanted to join a biker gang. 

I do not like playing the same way everyone else does, and i see a native american community as a way of doing this. I see so many generic Cowboys/Cowgirls but no Native Americans. Having a place where we can all chat and discuss things, find players to play with  or even help make sales ect would be cool. 

 

Have to head out for a while now but of you are interested post your intent below and i can sort some things our when i get back.

I come from the biker community as well and I know exactly what you're speaking of. Personally I'd really like a discord of sorts for all players with native american characters to join because I know how fun it was to have 10-20 biker friends in a lobby playing together back in the glory days of GTA Online. Hopefully this could be a way of replicating that same type of distinct community. Sign me up
