Adrian90
Did you guys know, that GTA 2 was also planned for the Nintendo 64. In January 26, 1999 IGN reported, that GTA 2 was only planned as a console game. As we know, Dreamcast and PlayStation versions were released, but Nintendo 64 version unfortunately was never saw the light of day. Source: http://web.archive.org/web/20000817160653/http://pc.ign.com/news/6586.html Also Nintendo 64 version of GTA 2 was mentioned in some gaming magazines, such as: Games Master (1999-08). Pooka Mustard
Would've been impressive to see the entire game fit on a 32MBs cartridge. They already managed to put the game on the GameBoy Color. The question then beomes how different the unreleased N64 version would've been compared to its other peers? The game data for GTA and GTA2 on PC totals about 30 megs. If it was possible to do Resident Evil 2 with all FMVs and music, GTA and GTA2 would have been cakewalk. I always thought it was the first one getting a port to the N64, not the second one being planned for release. They would have called it Grand Theft Auto 64. There's another article about it floating around. IIRC they got to about 30% then scrapped it for whatever reason. The one thing they couldn't get around however was the radio, which was kind of a staple of GTA games even back then. Especially as GTA2 had duplicates of radio station in "bad quality" which the game would switch to when you were out of range/in the wrong area to indicate that the city was massive and each area had its own radio station selection.
