Local sales can be done in defensive mode with no map marker visible to others, if you opt for the riskier distant sales then it's all fair play if somebody jacks your wagon.

Welcome to the Rockstar Games business model, where players are free to attack/interrupt sales. Yes, it's legal. As @IamCourtney has said, local sales can be done totally off the radar for a slightly lower sale price

I actually kind of like the nervous tension that comes with the long distance sales, the Trader sales would be incredibly boring without it. 

 

Of course, I say that as someone who hasn’t actually been attacked by rival players when doing one yet...

Don't do long haul sales. The distance difference is too much and the monatairy gain is too low with 25% and 50% sales. With 100% inventory and a big wagon, you can earn $150 more. 

 

If you are solo you are completely exposed and defenseless.

It's a 25% bonus for far sales, making 100 Goods worth $625, or $125 more for a far sale.

This has to be by far the most stupid post I've read. You spent money on a game and now you don't like the outcome. Well that's just how games are sometimes. Nothing has been stolen apart from maybe some of your pride because you were unable to defend your goods. I think your real problem is right there in the fact you bought gold bars instead of earning them. You tried to shortcut thing and failed to develop the in-game skills that would have enabled you to defend yourself. You can spend money on gold but noobs and gold are easily parted by experienced players.

Why would anyone with an aversion to PvP run large far sales at all, nevermind solo.

 

I dislike forced freeroam PvP and my biggest complaint about GTAO post 2016 has been the forced public sales with lobby wide notification. I don't often defend R* or those going after other players sales, but R* have given what I consider to be a very reasonable alternative in RDO, we can do a full sale, in defensive mode, remain off other players minimaps and without other players being notified by selling to a local location for $500.

 

If you don't like PvP and others interfering in your sales, just sell local and watch the cash role in. Being greedy over an extra 25% just isn't worth it.

I must be extremely lucky as no one has even attacked me yet.  Had a few times I thought it was gonna happen, but they just rode on by.   But, when the day comes I'm fully prepared to blow it up, set it on fire, whatever.  If I can't have it, you can't either.

Pro-tip: Dump the trading and get collecting before R* nerf the sh*t out of it. I'm going for coins, jewelry, heirlooms and arrowheads and will bring in about $2.5k in little over the time it would take Cripps to make $500 worth of goods. No PvP, more money.

Collections all the way. I hold onto anything I find randomly via metal detector because you passively make sets outside of the full sets that spawn daily via MD and the awesome Salvage free roam event. Go here:
