underrated things in gta san andreas

All those little details. Subtle changes of dialogue depending on what haircut you made in Ryder mission, changes on the talk radio over time; an actual (semi)-functional vehicle impound that is not mentioned anywhere in the game... those details are actually what make this game so great.

The lack of animals. It might seem like a strange sort of thing to say since you would think animals would technically make it seem more alive (Like the Red Dead games), but I really think the complete lack of wildlife especially in the countryside and desert is what gives it its unique charm. When I used to play San Andreas I would purposely go out into the countryside and desert literally just for the creepy atmosphere and feeling of being alone.

In this day where developers are striving for the most realistic gaming worlds possible and some probably go for too much realism San Andreas feels unique in this regard where on paper you would think this would be a detriment, but in practice it totally works in the game's favour. While I'm by no means a San Andreas fan however this one aspect is something I've always appreciated about it.

I fully understand this point but....I’d rather have seen some animals. The countryside in SA looks so well done that animals would do it justice.

Thankfully, SA is not the kind if the game that really needs animals though, so what you say here does hold weight.

The huge and diverse map to explore, 3 and vc combined wont give the experience SA  map alone can.

I never knew of Young Maylay before playing the game. The game literally made me one of  his biggest fan and I followed his songs for years since.

Interactions. It is possible to interact with many things in the game. V's not like that. V’s map feels so empty and dead after playing GTA SA. I especially miss interiors.

There are too many underrated things in GTA SA.

- The contrast of the districts. No one i found has said this but every district has it's own uniqueness and it's very different than other districts. For example: Chinatown and Financial. Chinatown is a really unique district that you can see it's uniqueness with the Triads, chinese peds around, and even the structures look like Chinese houses, and especially the gates. Financial, in the other hand, really looks like a busy district with lots of industrial buildings, workers walking around, and even the cars driven by peds can resemblance that the people here are rich man/woman.

- Snapshot and photos. This is really underrated. You can actually find some great photos from San Andreas with the help of Snapshot. SA has a lot of really cool buildings and structures that i think is really awesome. You can just take a photo of a random structure with peds walking and traffics and it'll still looks really cool.

- Graffity. With graffities around, it really looks like a gang territory and it's such a cool decorative and functional feature from Rockstar. Some of them like RHBK (Rollin Height Ballad Killa), Grove4Life, and much more, really makes me feel like i'm in the gang 'hood here, should be cautios. Also, when i spray the graffity from other gangs, i feel like a real OG from Grove Street, causing harrasment to other's territory. This game is the only game that makes me feel like a true gangster even with only this feature.

I think the pedestrian AI is underrated. You get distracted by it when focusing on other tasks to get that 100% completion. It's only when there's nothing left to do that you notice things about the pedestrians.

Sometimes just walking the streets and listening to all their dialogue. Or their unique animations like someone kicking the ticket machine at the train stations, or watching someone clearly lose at a casino table.

I don't think many people on this forum know what "underrated" means. When something is underrated, it means it's held in a much lower value and importance than it really is. Most people confuse this word for "over hated". And they even call something that's already considered good underrated. If it's already considered good, it isn't underrated.

Case in point, Cesar as a character isn't really underrated. A lot of the fans who played this game consider Cesar as one of the most likable characters of the game and talk about his relationship with CJ a lot. Don't see how that's considered underrated.

Anyways, BOT:

- The graffiti tags. I don't think many people discuss this much as I felt that these were great additions of the game. They really should've had us create our own tags and maybe make a mural or something. This feature should've been used a little more.

- The importance of the garage in San Fierro. It's treated as an unimportant aspect of the story even though CJ and co. claimed that they were gonna fix it up. They should've had them remodel the garage.

- Side characters in Los Santos such as B-Dup, Big Bear, and Emmet. They're treated as minor characters, but I felt they could've had much more important roles as supporting characters since the ghetto theme was the main concept of the game.

- Ryder's character in the game. He's treated as an unimportant minor character in the game and even fans who disagree with me believe that he had no use outside of Los Santos and was perfect in how he was portrayed. But I thought he had plenty of potential to develop more as a character and could've had just as much of an impact on the story as Big Smoke (not as an antagonist though).

- Also, CJ and Ryder's relationship. They weren't as close as CJ was to Big Smoke, but I liked their love-hate relationship and found their moments together complex and hilarious.

- The 90s in general. People always discuss the amazing 1980s vibe in Vice City yet I don't think I have heard anyone talk about the 1990s urban gang atmosphere in Los Santos and the vibe it gives out. Granted, you begin to lose that 90s feel once you leave Los Santos, but I still think it should be discussed more.

- The gym. People consider it pointless, but I thought it was a great addition to the franchise since CJ starts off as inexperienced and naive.

- Gang wars. Considering the game's theme, I felt it should've been mandatory for 100% completion.

I definitely agree. I have always wished the graffiti elements were explored much more. It would have been really detailed to randomly spray any walls with your spray can. Everytime you would do it it would either spray the gangs area name, like Temple hood for life or spray the homies name from the set...like for example Big O'Tre from INGW Family or having the  ability to cross out any rival sets then a homie or CJ would add in his name right next to it. Let me see...Kilo Tray Balla tag crossed out with that Big Busta from the Grove ST y'all can't see me, lmaoo. Wonder who's that :p There really wasn't enough graffiti around Grove Street as their should have been. The random spray tag would simply fade away after a few in game days to cope with memory space for the PS2.

It goes the same for any other gang areas in LS. All of these things would have been interesting regarding these tags. Especially the part about gangs adding their names next a tag. It's almost like R* forgot about it regarding 90's street gangs. Walking outside in Boyle Heights back then that's literally the only thing you saw on the damn concretes or walls. The many names of the homeboys, the homeboys who were taken from the sh*t environment we lived in or sometimes large murals were created for them with beautiful art paintings and the many rival sets around crossing out names. Only happened in the early mornigs when eveyone would be asleep as night times everyone would be to busy blasting. Goddamn Hipsters these days have completely crapped on the art murals you see today in certain parts of East LA for the better or worse, lol. Motherfeckers would have been tripin hard if all them would have time travled back to 1995, lmfaooo.

DJ pooh covered the gang sections so well and he did do an excellent job really. Unless the houser brothers wanted more and actually checked out South Central, IngleWood, and Watts which by 2002-04 standards was pretty much still sh*t on crime rates. As a matter of fact I think they actually did?? Read an old article on this years back I  remember explaing them visiting San Francisco, LV and LA including it's many ghettos. Probably with some help of other voice actors, like MC Eight or MC Frost. But then again aren't credited besides the voice acting so who knows. But honestly there was so much R* could only do with SA pushing it's limit for the PS2. They had so much extra plans for SA. I'll never understand how the PS2 could handle a game like this. But R* got it done. The same could be said for V on last gen pushing the hardware to the max.

I do consider it to be underrated. There's been many missed details when you pay attention to their dialogues. Some will mention what's going with their lives, what happening in current time or complaining that the area they are at as horribly lost its class hinting either the crime or gang presence etc....It's best heard around areas with gang presences. Mostly the middle class NPC's complaining. Or hookers telling themselves or other nearby ones that they have to stay heated due to the area. Interesting fact that these could be heard in LV aswell once one does any gang turf glitches in these parts. There once was a plan on making the three cities have gang wars which possibly weren't hidden well at the end by R* as it can still be done with glitches. And pedestrian dialogue is still heard throughout these parts.
