Since the decade is coming to an end

Yeah I know it's still 3 months or so away, but with the 2020s just around the corner what are some of your highlights (or lowlights) be it personal or in the general scheme of things from 2010 to 2019?

On the downside.

-Paul Walker's death.

-The Notre Dame Cathedral blaze.

- The New Zealand Mosque killings.

-The 2014 Lindt Café siege in Sydney.

(I'll keep these to a minimum)

On the up side.

-Enrolling at University.

-So many great games from the end of last generation and this generation.

-My brother's marriage in July.

-My doggo despite being 13 years old is still going strong. He's a good boy.

Pros:

-I lost my virginity

-I've made a great friend.

Cons:

-My 2 favorites series ended

-Lost some friends.

My decade was aggressively lackluster, I had to "scan my brain" to remember something remarkable, either good or bad.

Pros:

- I got a better hold of my Anxiety/Depression. I'm in a much better frame of mind these days.

- I got rid of many of the fake people that existed in my life, and only brought me down.

- Finished School/College and got a job. Working sucks, though. Still beats anything from my teenage years.

- The many great games/films/tv shows that have come out during this decade. Especially Video Games. It has been a huge bump in technical leaps and graphics, in many ways I feel games have overtaken films in telling better stories now.

- Ditched all forms of social media.

Cons:

- I'm still a virgin, sadly. I would have thought I'd settled down with someone by now, but it just hasn't happened yet. I'm keeping positive. I spent so much of this decade hiding away from people so I'm not surprised. It doesn't bother me all that much, but you can't help but feel left out at times.

- Bad money management. I've bought a lot of things that I ended up selling later, or just wasted money on things I didn't need. Especially Video Games, with how big my backlog is. Towards the end of the decade I've got more careful with my spending.

- I ended up doing a totally different job, so College was a bit of a waste.

- I only have a couple of real friends. I do believe quality is better than quantity, but I don't get the opportunity to see them much. So a lot of the times I'm on my own.

My high points are buying a house and graduating college and getting a gf who I don't see not being my future wife.

Sucked that I had to lose some friends to get here, both online and irl but oh well, gotta remove the trash somehow!

Pros:

- Got a gf

- Discovered dope

- memes evolved radically

- graduated all mandatory education, now I am here - unemployed ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

- got a car that goes vroom vroom

Cons:

- Older diesel cars boutta be banned (rip my 20 MPG car)

- E-liquid for my nicotine cravings boutta be banned (we all know it is the vitamine E acetate causing the deaths, but what ever)

- Rise in population of snowflakes being easily triggered and offended

Lots of things obviously determine how great a year is for me. Career, Sports, Music, Games, Movies, Family and Friends... So this is how I felt about this decade overall.

2010-2013 : Perfect. Couldn't have been better.

2014 : Sucked pretty hard.

2015-2016 Pretty decent. Especially 2015 was goddamn awesome.

2017-19. Awful. Some of the worst years of my life. Felt like everything turned to sh*t. Hopefully it changes in the next decade.

I might just stick with a PRO & Negatives list

Pros of this Decade

Getting my own automobile

Taking on Further Education

Have made some new friends

Making the move from dial-up to High Speed Internet after years of nothing but crappy internet

Have become more independent

Having a chance to get to know myself better

Finally going to the snow for the first time and it was amazing.  I was so let down as a child when the school refused to spend the money to stay the extra night at the lodge so we could go to the snow.

Getting to express my creative side.

Negative of this Decade

Lost a few family members to various deaths

Relative arguments which lead to family members never speaking to certain family members again, sometimes over petty issues

Lost some old friends, maybe a positive in a way as they later came out as toxic people

Still living in a Suburb I despise

Still dealing with some forced options I despise due to current living conditions but hopefully by the next Decade at some point that changes.

Still living with Stress and Anxiety, sometimes it's gotten worse

Maybe more for both lists I can't think of.

Pretty much the sh*ttiest decade possible. It was basicially a complete loss for me due to a chronic disease and the following depression.

Hope I finally get a break now. Not usually the whining type, but damn I deserve some fuc*ing happiness. 😧

2010 was ten years ago? So this is getting old. I'm having a crisis. I think.

Pros:

  • Um
  • Leaving school and all the asshats there
  • Have a (somewhat) supportive family through difficult times
  • Transitioning and medicating
  • That one good friend I met on Xbox
  • I really don't know

Cons:

  • I grew up
  • Massive depression and anxiety
  • Never been able to get a job since I left school
  • David Bowie died
  • Recently started drifting apart from my one friend
  • Brexit

Pros:

  • Left school, and all its toxicity.
  • Started a treatment with medication, which helped me a lot.
  • Started drawing again (both digitally and traditional) after many years of not doing it.
  • Made a great friend on this forum who matches some of my odd tastes. You know who you are.
  • Discovered new music, animated shows, and some cool youtubers that came and went.
  • Left behind a IRL "friend" who was really toxic. Even though sometimes I miss when he visited me.

Cons:

  • I'm getting older (25) and still jobless.
  • My brother hates me to no end because of my issues.
  • Tried to start studying a career two times, only to end up dropping both.
  • Every year it passes I miss more and more my childhood years.
  • I still live in a POS third world country with corrupt politicians and a massive poverty percentage.
  • I have become very intorelant with things I don't like (mostly football and everything related).
  • I experimented an anguish attack very recently, and I fear that becoming frequent.

I’d say I started out the decade on a low note considering I was still in high school. Those were quite literally the worst years of my life. I peaked in 2017, having received a promotion at work, purchased my first car, met my current girlfriend, and in a sense “won” an opportunity to travel across Canada for cheap. Oh, and that Carly Rae Jepsen concert with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra was heaven.

In 2018, I found myself fired from my job, only to be rehired given the circumstances surrounding my case - albeit at the bottom of the pyramid. It wasn’t long until I gave them the finger and left for a competitor, but I can’t say I’m happy there. I’d say my life now in 2019 is meh, although I have high hopes for 2020.

This list is remarkably like my own!  I also got rid of an abusive ex which was a major plus, moved states and all to help with my mental state, worked brilliantly!

Cons:

- Sadly one of my cats passed away, he will forever be missed and remembered!

- Being self employed it hard work, since there's no steady income, but I'm making it work.

- I've put on so much weight cause I stopped my fitness routines, I'll need to sort it out soon.

Well done on getting away from that relationship and starting fresh. It definitely isn't easy. It takes a lot of courage to move states especially, I've never left my hometown or lived anywhere else, although I'd like to.

I moved states with said person when I was 18, so returning to my home state wasn't actually that big of a deal, just moving back with all my now belongings and cats was more difficult that when I was 18 and didn't have jack to my name haha!

Pros -

Found the love of my life

Introduced a new family member - our chocolate Labrador fur baby

travelled alot and went to Europe twice

Bought a house

Completed an apprenticeship in heavy duty mechanics

Found a job with aspect of progression and growth

Explored alot of the South West Australia by 4x4, seeing some beautiful landscapes and scenery that not many people get to experience

Brother got married and expecting a kid

Both brothers bought housing as well

Quit smoking cigs and alcohol

Cons -

diagnosed with depression causing anxiety and haven't found a solution in 5 years.

had to quit bud for job.

Friendships dwindled to nothing or moved away

Dad got stage 4 throat cancer (remission but let's be real cancer can come back with a vengeance)

Fluctuate weight +/- 10kgs

Falling behind in house maintenance and upkeep

Ongoing skin issue causing small abscesses

The cons are certainly small in comparison to the hardship that alot of others deal with everyday. The pros are something that I should be proud of but also recongise how lucky I am in this world. sh*t could be alot worse.

Pro: I've been making money

Con: It seems I've been using said money for drink and drugs, because I can't really remember anything specific about the last decade that has stood out.

Let’s go by years.

2010-2012: Pretty good years of my life. I was only in sixth to eighth grade and things were a lot more fun. I knew some friends from Colorado, whom I was getting back to knowing again from 2007. They were a REALLY fun group and people and their dad was in the military. He also loved rock and metal, much like me. I would also always make his wife, son and daughter laugh. It was also during this time frame when I was introduced to many rock and metal musicians and began liking them!

2013: It was a rough year for my Minnesota Vikings, many great heavy metal and rock and roll musicians died, and my sister was going through a rough time in her life. Not the best, for me at least.

2014: Sucked pretty bad. It was my sophomore year of high school. I was beginning to not get very good grades. I remember hoping this year would be better than 2013 but it was actually even worse. In fact, it was probably the worst year I’ve ever lived in.

2015: Things were going back to rocking!

2016: Just a meh year.

2017: This was the year I graduated from high school, plus I graduated strong. My Minnesota Vikings also did exceptionally great! Pretty much another kick butt year for me! Not to mention, it’s also the year I made my GTAF account! :)

2018: Another meh year.

2019: Let’s just say I hope 2020 is a MUCH better year and we start a whole new decade fresh!

Overall, the 2010s definitely had its pros and cons, much like any other decade. 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, and 2017 were the best years for me within this decade. However, everyone is different and some people have better years than others. It’s just the way life works.
