Favourite Role Unlock

So, I've maxed out my Trader role but I'm only level 4 & 2 for Collector and Bounty respectively. I've been looking through the rewards for the other roles and trying to see where I should concentrate my efforts.

So, what's the best/favourite/most valuable role unlock available? Obviously, being primarily a Trader I'm getting used to the hunting wagon. I don't use it for the butcher as I don't think it's as effective. I prefer to use it for filling my materials with Cripps.

I'm thinking the horse lamp is my next port of call. When it gets dark I tend to avoid long journeys due to lack of light and wolf attacks. The horse lamp would free up one hand and allow me to carry my shotgun in the other.

Or are there other role unlocks of more value?

The metal detector for sure.

Yea the metal detector + shovel are by far away the best bang for yer buck in the update.

Beyond that in terms of things you can purchase, the wagons all have their uses, the Collector saddlebag can hold 7 outfits/hats, the horse lantern is nice but it's not unbelievably good and it's $350 per saddle, but it's cool to have. Weapons locker is useful if you have loads of weapons you don't use, the stew pot is a novelty but it's nice to have for the camp when you have a posse and cooking Cripps' special stew of the day will get you Trader exp, also if you craft a lot at camp the campfire upgrade is also pretty good as it speeds up crafting times.

There's nothing else that you can purchase in those kits you unlock every five levels that is really essential though, they're mostly optional outside of the role specific equipment like wagons, metal detector etc.

Also all three roles have some very useful satchel upgrades for reaching certain levels so it's gonna be worth leveling them up at some point, BH also has Eagle Eye+ which 10 seconds after unlocking you'll realise you can't live without.

Shovel and metal detector are essential for a collector.

Bigger delivery wagons make a big difference for the trader.  The massively cut down on the grind.  The difference between a $62 delivery and a $500 delivery is huge.  The trader is now my favourite role.

Gun locker is nice quality of life improvement too.

@Jason that's a good point with the satchel. I've overlooked that. When I realised the satchels could be upgraded the first thing I done was checked which role upgraded which satchel.

The new eagle eye is probably worth investigating, that plus I'd like to see my horse collect herbs; a time saver there would be amazing. Too often I pass herbs because I just can't be bothered dismounting.

Hunting wagon is my favorite thus far, but it's the only role I've done so maybe I'm a bit biased.

But from what i can see, the shovel and metal detector is godsend for the collectors.

For me so far, the Bounty Hunter holsters, rings, distinguished outfit, & running with eagle eye. The trader's gun locker, & camp stewpot (I'm now addicted to gold cores).  The collector's saddlebag, & refined binoculars.

I rank my favourites as:

Kit Items:

  1. Shovel
  2. Lantern
  3. Medium Delivery Wagon
  4. Large Delivery Wagon
  5. Hunting Wagon
  6. Stew Pot (for Daily Challenges and Gold Cores for 3 in game days)
  7. Bolas
  8. Bounty Wagon
  9. Horse Lantern
  10. Tracking Arrow Pamphlet (I'd rank it higher, but I've only had it kill targets with 1 shot and have yet to get it's Daily Challenge to work

Rank Unlocks:

  1. Satchel Upgrades
  2. Eagle Eye while sprinting and galloping
  3. Trade Route and Scavenge Free Roam Events
  4. Sense nearby collectibles
  5. Dig Spots marked in Eagle Eye
  6. Narrowed search radius
  7. Horse can pick plants

While certain items and perks are great for their roles, my favorites are what I can use outside of the roles. Satchel upgrades, collector's saddlebag, saddle, gunbelt and holster.

Aside from all the obvious major gameplay altering additions, the saddle and bags and gunbelt which come with the Collector role are pretty great, I love all the little pockets and containers and bits of gear they have, suitable for someone out wandering the ranges for days on end to carry as much as possible with them. Mostly just cosmetic of course but I like the visual flavour and the saddle itself, while not top of the line, is still a substantial upgrade over the one I had before (and I had no complaints about it) plus being able to carry all 7 custom outfits in the Collector saddlebags is a treat for a wardrobe fiend such as myself. :)

Satchel upgrades. Camp themes. Metal Detector. Trader and Collector gun belts. Big delivery wagon. And the ability to pick herbs from the horse.

Nobody talks about the horses you unlock ???

Every role has a different breed and I guess the higher rank unlock, the stats of those horses are better, because the price is higher as well... What do you think about those horses?

It is if you put the best stirrups on it.

Satchel upgrades easy but....the best skill is running with eagle eye.  I know there are other decents unlocks but running with eagle eye because of the convience is borderline better than being able to hold more things.  They are kindve related.

Nobody likes duck on horse feature?

I never remember it. Do love the dual spinning sidearms, & ADORE being able to have my horse pick its own damn carrots for a change.

Pick herbs from horse

Horse lantern

Hunting wagon (although the call/dismiss mechanics are a pain)

I think I'm going to love sprint/gallop with eagle eye but I haven't unlocked it yet

Everything you said and the last one is the best, and all the satchel upgrades and not to forget the collectors saddlebag for storing 7 outfits.

It’s only 1 day for that recipe - still pretty good though, and every one of my Trader sales starts with that Superior Quality Stew for everyone.

For 3 days you need to use the special Cripps recipe, which features more esoteric ingredients (not really worth the hassle IMHO, but YMMV).
