Perhaps the easiest way to describe the film to you is that it isn't a Batman film. It has characters from the Batman universe but it's really it's own thing, if your kid wants to watch Joker because it's a Batman film they're going to be a little confused when he doesn't show up. The plot is also pretty political with almost zero action, much of the plot may be a little too mature for the average kiddo to fully understand. Secondly, it's R rated. I'll leave it up to you for to ultimately decide but the R rating there isn't cause of jump scares or spooky stuff like the typical Hollywood horror film. darthYENIK
Yeah, it doesn’t have the feel of a Batman movie. It’s got the tone of a 1970s or 80s Scorsese or de Palma film. Dark and very adult. If violence and profanity isn’t an issue, I’d say give it a shot.

Lonely-Martin
Finally caught this flick last week, couldn't wait so rented a pre-release on Sky, lol. Definitely a movie I buy immediately for the collection though, and I'm pretty sure I'll be rewatching some early Scorsese movies after this too. My kind of movie, but I don't enjoy the cinema alone so waited. Worth the wait and the cheeky extra to rent be for I buy. I remember a decade or so back when some dreaded a new Joker on the big screen, but we've been really spoiled by a couple of strong turns since. (Plus I like Jerome in Gotham too, fun show). Great stuff.
Niobium
before watching joker, i used to think that all these avengers movies were really good, but after watching it, i now think they are just meh.... i mean, whenever i leave the theatre from an avengers movie, i don't even remember most of what happens in that movie. maybe i just remember some jokes, a few moments like captain america catching thor's hammer, but i don't remember much beyond that. but after watching the joker, i still remember every single scene in the movie. i remember the opening scene where arthur intensely smiles in the mirror, i remember the dancing on the stairs, the dancing in the bathroom, the subway shooting, arthur meeting bruce, arthur meeting thomas, arthur smothering his mom, shooting murray franklin on national tv..... this movie has so many memorable moments and makes other superhero movies seem shallow in comparison. i think this movie did a great job in exploring joker's character, societal issues like austerity and mental health, joker being an unreliable narrator, joker becoming his true self at the end of the movie, and other topics. i don't watch movies that often, but this movie really blew me away. i rate this 10/10. Jimmy
I've been asked time and again regarding the name of the song that players during 'dancing on the stairs scene'. It's called 'Hey' by Gary Glitter. Niobium
can we talk about the music in this movie? everyone talks about joaquin's performance or the writing (which are both excellent), but i think the music is really overlooked and makes some scenes even better Tchuck and Algonquin Assassin

The music really sets the tone and when he's first introduced as The Joker it gave me goosebumps. The soundtrack's also really top notch. sabitsuki
Unpopular opinion, but I didn't really like the movie, memes aside. To me it just feels like another woke, f*ck society type film like Falling Down or Natural Born Killers, and the numerous references to Taxi Driver only drives this idea even further. Arthur is a well-written protagonist, but I find him very cliche in numerous ways. It doesn't help that the world around him is so comedically negative towards him, to the point of being over the top a lot of the times. He's like an angsty teenager who has been grounded by his abusive parents for far too long, for a lack of a better analogy. It tries to be deep and critical of society on a socio-political scale, but it winds up being superficial and empty-handed, and the more I progress through the film, the more predictable the plot becomes. It's like reading a character study of a person like Travis Bickle as written by a 15-year old goth kid who just found out about nihilism. In short, it's the film equivalent of a Rage Against The Machine song. Edited May 2, 2020 by DownInTheHole XxElBigMex913xX and Tchuck 1

That's how I got the name. I never figured out whether the song name was Rock & Roll part 2. I figured it was a part of the album/EP bearing the name. Yeah it's also in the film, The Full Monty with Robert Carlyle. I think it was deliberate to use a Gary Glitter track. I mean, it's a great track but I think they deliberately wanted to use a track by a disgraced sex offender. And I think it's because it's a catchy tune. And it's very hard not to tap your foot or bop your head to the rhythm. And here, we're invited to empathize with Joker, a seriously ill and evil man. And there's the juxtaposition of that we're in theatre, bopping our head to song by a convicted child rapist and a comic book villain. Todd Phillips made his name in comedy, there's no doubt he was making a statement here and maybe his tongue was in cheek but it works and is wrong at the same time on so many levels. If the sequel is better than the first, I guess Todd Phillips did not repeat "The Hangover Part II" on that one. Looks like it will premiere at a film festival like Cannes or Venice next year or two if the movie wraps up production.

Badman_
20 hours ago, Zello said: I also don't like the idea of a sequel. Me neither. In my opinion, the first film worked so great because it was very grounded and had little to no relation with the fantastical elements of the superhero universe. It almost didn't feel like a traditional comic book flick. I mean, you could easily trade "Joker" for "Sad Clown" and not much would've been missed. It was a character movie obviously inspired by the likes of Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy. The sequel is probably gonna try to expand the world, add new characters (Batman?) and make it feel less grounded, more comic friendly. Perhaps they're trying to start a franchise of some sort? Now, of course this is all speculation from my part and I might be wrong in my assumptions. All we can do is hope for the best! Edited June 10 by Badman_ English. wise_man
I remember a video about hypotetical Joker's sequel that explores Harley Quinn's origin instead of expanding Arthur's story. Basically we follow the psychiatrist's perspective as she descends into madness for interacting with Arthur in the asylum. Promising idea, but I doubt the real sequel will be about that.
