Animal spawn broken?

I have noticed a serious lack of animals in the free roam world. When we do resupply missions or delivery missions they are everywhere. 

 

But like has anyone else noticed a severe lack of animals in the world? It is nothing like it was before the update, and i dont know if this is intentional or a bug?

Yeah, I've gone through 2 different sessions recently, and there was barely an animal. Not even a squirrel. Frustrating for the Traders.

Yes I have changed sessions multiple times, as I have had this problem since the update and nothing seems to make it better except the times that we are on supply or delivery missions. During those mission there are a ton of animals on the map like normal. I am praying that it is fixed if there is some kind of update tomorrow :) I am really hoping that it is not meant to be this way permanently.

The only way I can fix it is to shut the game down and reboot it. It is a big pain to have to do it anywhere from 3 to 7 times a day. I did notice tonight that when the server repopulated 90% of animals disappeared. I could still hear the animal world, just couldn't see it. I also had to pay to set up my camp again even though I was not booted from the game.

I have noticed this also. Seems like when I do not need them they are everywhere, as soon as Cripps needs more I can't find squat. It's frustrating.

From what I have seen there is a correlation between the number of players in the session and the critter spawns. I'm guessing some cheeky bastard at R* thought it may be fun to put in a population variable in the code. High population = low spawns of usually poor quality animals. Minimal population of players = high population of critters with a high number of 2 and 3 star. 

 

When you start a mission (with a respawn) the game appears to put you in a new lobby and may slowly add players after that. This is why critters are so abundant during and directly after missions.

After the mission R* DUMPS players in, causing the spawns to go away likely due to the formula I hypothesized above.

I doubt that is the cause. If they were to do that they would severely hurt the trader role, if not render it useless. Can't trade if you can't hunt.

 

I've seen full servers with loads of animals and some servers with less people (10-15) with no animals.

I think the reduced animal spawn was intentional. Hunting never really felt like hunting before the implementation of the trader role because animals were everywhere all the time. Now it feels like hunting. We have to search, track, use bait, etc.

That's fine.  There are still recurring spawns that happen 1 out of every 3 or so visits.  When I have encountered what the OP is describing, it is the whole map gone for days.  You can hear animals only in the ambient soundtrack. 

 

I do agree that they probably tweaked the spawns, but what OP refers to cannot be by design.   

 

Running the weekly bounty, loading up the hunting wagon there, or on a resupply mission is the only thing that fixes it for me.

Just start a bounty hunter mission and stay away from the target to not start the timer. It removes all non-posse members from your session and respawns all animals, that other players killed. As long as you stay away from your target, u can hunt away at free will... 😃

There is no 'fix'. R* intentionally reduced the amount of online persistent 'entities' for the server to keep track of for increased stability.

Yeah it has been a problem and is still really bad. I havent played for weeks, decided to check things out before the update..... Logged in.... immediately got the message that Cripps has packed up my camp...  took 15 or so to get him to set it up...Rode around roanoke and then all the way down to emerald ranch and did not see one animal, continued on to the heartlands and down the river to riggs and strawberry and then from strawberry to the west side of big valley, I spent about an hour doing this and located 1 rabbit. I logged out and back in twice, and exited the game completely and rebooted the console ...after the reboot The camp would not set up in any region ( 12 players in my lobby at this point ). No help. 

 

 The world is just empty except for the random NPC riding by on a horse or wagon. I spent an hour roaming around looking for something to do, unable to do anything with the trader role. I decided to go ahead and maybe collect a bit and at my first dig site I got a disco on attempting to dig it up. 

 

Summary:

1 Hour online... Unable to setup camp or do anything at all with the trader role. Disconnect before I could get engaged or interested in doing anything else.

 

This is a typical gaming session in rdr2o, maybe in another year or two this will be a fun game worth someones time.

If rockstar was so concerned about this, they should make the servers have a lower maximum limit.  The issue is not present with less than 18 people from what i've seen.  anything more, and no animal spawns and camp issues.

As far as cripps packing up the camp, not being able to setup camp, and 0 animals in the world..... There have been many complaints but no response from R* so we can either assume its working as designed and they are happy with it, or its a minor issue in their eyes and might or might not get a fix anytime soon.

Let's remember that R* Support is rumored to be a third party company, and they have said to me that their support group never speaks with the Design team, no teleconference, videoconferencing, just a written report.

Since the moonshiners release animal spawns have taken a huge hit. I've sent two trouble tickets. The reply:  they're reviewing the bug. No timeline on the fix. Getting to the point of shelving the game.

Apparently they arent concerned at all as there has been no communication about these issues.

You used to be able to join a bounty or resupply mission and that would put you in a private lobby. No more. The world seems devoid of land animals. Can still fish and shoot birds. But nearly no land animals. It’s a shame. If it would just work like it should...

It is seriously disappointing right. My ideal session is to do a moonshine or bounty mission, travel with the mine detector, and if I see perfect deer hunt them and out them in the wagon. 

 

This really brings your entire experience to life and you can work on so many things at once, but with no animals spawning it has seriously impacted the vibe

Thats funny since it isnt a bug...... Their hardware or software cant handle more than about 16-18 players in a lobby as thats when things start breaking but for some reason they insist on shoving 23-27 people in a lobby which is well past the breaking point for their current design. At ~20 players the animals all start to despawn, its amusing to catch that happening...... chasing a grp of 3 deer on horseback and .... abra kadabra! Deer despawn all at once.... check lobby, yep 23 players.... or the other way around. Havent seen a a single animal in 2 hours and all of a sudden they are everywhere...... check the player list .... yep 4 ppl in the lobby....YAY I can hunt!  3 minutes later you have 23-25 players again and you hope you got a deer or two as your not going to see one again....maybe for an hour, maybe for a few real life game sessions if you play primetime. 

 

As the server fills up it struggles to start missions, complete missions, display things correctly etc..... etc.... etc.......

Yeah your paying to beta test the game.

Yeah, it's jacked to hell today (Jan 6). I've been through 6 lobbies with nothing but the occasional bird. It's not just the wild animals either. The farm animals aren't spawning. The FARMERS aren't spawning. Wild horses are absent. The only things spawning appear to be the NPC's. Other than that, the world is completely devoid of livestock.

 

We need to get the media (Game Informer and the like) to start publishing negative comments about this animal issue. R* isn't going to do anything about it until they perceive an actual threat to future revenue.
