ChiroVette
Hey everyone! This is a question about the Trilogy (III and VC as well) not just SA. I have the disc versions, and they are a pain in the ass to keep swapping in and out. Not to mention installing on every new PC or lappy. Anyway. I have used the NoCD cracks to somewhat limited effect. So Steam has a sale for the Trilogy for $8.99, which is worth it if the games are playable. So here are my questions: 1. Can I downgrade the Steam versions so I have all the music and whatever other features may now be missing from them since the licensing has long since expired on much of the media content? 2. Do the Steam versions of the games get ANY positive upgrades at all? By that I mean even a slight bump in resolution or graphics? 2. Can you use mods on these games, presumably once you have downgraded them? Anything else I need to know about going from disc (or NoCD cracks) to Steam? Thanks guys and gals and other kind fellow-GTA-fanboys!
lil weasel
Yes, they can be modded after downgrading. Modding questions belong in the modding section of the Forums. My personal experience is the STEAM version is no longer playable, I use a USB GamePad. and while the Disc Version in Game settings allows for the buttons to be used for different assignments in different columns, the newest STEAM version no longer allows that. Which makes the game unplayable for me. Otherwise the STEAM versions are practical in not needing a Disc, and as long as the Internet connection is active they play identical to the disc versions. "No CD": cracks are classed as Piracy, and therefore are not supported or approved on these Forums.
ChiroVette
I use a wireless 360 Controller with a USB dongle. So if the controls are the classic PS2/360 style control scheme, which I believe is identical to the 360, then I should be fine? By the way, dude, no need to be anal about forum rules. lol I was NOT asking about mods specifically, only whether the Steam versions allow them or not. Its a general question about features in the Steam version, not me starting some rogue mod discussion. And LMAO really? NoCD cracks? That is a huge leap. I was NOT asking where to download them, offering links to them, encouraging, espousing, or asking people to use them. I was not asking HOW to use them even. I mentioned it in passing since one of the draws of the Steam version is not needing a CD and I found the cracks to be annoying so would love not to have to load discs without using NoCD. lol
lil weasel
My somebody is sensitive re the Forum rules, and policy. I have the STEAM, and If you are Not using the Key Board and Mouse, You Will have a Problem with the GamePad (aka Controller) unless you find a Third Party Driver for it that allows all the Games Button Assignments to be used. I repeat the "In Game" Settings for the GamePad of the STEAM game NO LONGER allow for some button assignments. In prior editions if a button was assigned in a different column of the "in Game" settings list it was possible to nearly match the Consoles' settings. I actually like the standard PS2/PS3 GTA control schemes for those games, which are replicated nicely on the 360 controller. Meaning things like R1 - Ebrake, X for accelerator, etc. Are you saying that these are not achievable on the Steam version?
lil weasel
The IN GAME settings of the STEAM version no longer support the the assignment of the Console like games for the USB Generic GamePad. IF you are using the Third Party Drivers that allow the use of a Console Game Controller, then that is a different category, Thjere are Four columns of settings in Game, for button assignments. In prior editions a GamePad button could be assigned once in each of the foru catagories (with care), Now, the current publication of the STEAM edition only allows a button ONE assignment in the entire table. That means a Third Party Driver is required.

I have actually been using a program called Xpadder, which I first downloaded and purchased when GTA III first got a Windows 7 PC back in like 2010, because of the weirdness in the way Windows version of the 3D Era GTA games interact with things like the left analog stick and so forth. and I had no interest in using mouse and keys. That allows me to assign keys and mouse-clicks/movements to specific buttons on the 360 controller. I think I need to take a look at the mapped controllers for the Steam version and see if they line up with the control scheme for those games that I like. Thanks!
