@T0X1C how about we just run two versions. 

 

Small DAMN only Friday. 

Large Mixed Saturday.

 

It's a bit late to work around with time and date because already a major change in XDBXs schedule was made to fit in this event, and rearrange another one of theirs.  If @lann3fors says Friday is actually better we can try then, but I got impression that Saturday was better time for their American based players.

 

Most likely in future runs (if there is a demand) we can do it a Friday.

 

But I say let me host twice. Maybe we could test what's better.... A custom DM or an invite only freemode? A few trial runs on Friday after FAF could be really useful.

I watched a video of the game from a link provided so I dont need the practice footage as I know what to expect now. 

Did someone stream or capture footage of this practice run?  I’d like to watch it if possible. Thanks.

I do have one question...The hunted must be shot or melee killed, correct? Or can we hit them dead with our vehicle say if we spot them on the sidewalks?

Kill them by any means necessary except not via explosive weapon, nor Minigun/Widow maker. 

 

Failrace has it so they must use only a pistol or Shotgun, but that's in autoaim.

 

Last night was interesting. There were some issues, but it was useful.

I'll share further thoughts another time, I think there is a lot we could do differently to help the Hunters because it seems like such a struggle to locate a player.

Hosting can really change your enjoyment of the night, apologies if I was not much help but you and KrisT seemed to have it all wrapped up. 👍

 

Hunting can become a little boring if it goes on too long, especially if not communicating. It is an unavoidable side effect of the format so you need to get through the rounds ASAP and try and let as many people be the runners as possible.

 

The 5 minute location clues were a great idea and really helped.

 

Some players behaviour in between rounds did not help, turning up to the meeting point with a wanted level is a big no no. Using flares, The Atomizer, Molotov’s or any weapons at the meet up is a no no too as they can all attract a wanted level. If you are unable to wait patiently for 5 mins whilst players make their way back then IMO you shouldn’t bother signing up.

 

Should be easy enough to sort out the balancing though, here are the changes I would suggest...

 

Reduce the playing area

All hunters use the same car (preset PV picked in advance)

Runner cannot use same car/colour combo hunters are using 

Let players shoot from cars

Limit lobby to 16 players

Use Auto Aim lobby

Maximum 15min run time per round (call Merryweather after 10 mins)

The same player flies the chopper every round (someone vocal)

Zones on the map to aid navigation (I’ll post an example later)

 

Also can we all communicate in one place? Between GTAF, PSN chat and XDBX website I lost track and missed a rule change.

Things will get better the more we play, the main issues are:

 

1. The average players' map knowledge is poor. This will improve the more we play. Study the neighbourhoods and memorise points of interest around the map. Legion Square, Rockford Plaza, City Hall, etc.

 

2. The average players' communication is poor. Once you identify the Target, your goal isn't to kill him, you'll never do it alone. Your goal is to tail him and get more Hunters converging on the Target. I made a mistake here trying to shoot out Doogle's tyres after spotting him, luckily I managed to catch up to him and get everyone after him. Immediately after spotting the Target you need to give a location (map knowledge), a direction and a car colour. The Hunter needs to be constantly talking during the pursuit, every turn and every landmark passed needs to be announced. This goes for the Master Hunter as well, give a location and direction rather than starting a 1 v 1 chase by telling the closest player where the Target is. 

 

3. The average player isn't great at pursuing a Target. There were a few times where I was chasing the Target only to be stopped by another Hunter by accident. Don't automatically go into terminator mode, it's not always the best option. Wait for the Hunter in the best position to spin the Target and then move in to pin them, don't drive head on unless you are 100% sure that the Target will not get past you.

 

 

To address @JuniorChubb's points:

- I think the playing area is perfect for a full lobby. An easier alternative is to increase the number of map checks. Every 4 minutes until 20 minutes, every 3 minutes until 35 minutes, every 2 minutes until 45 minutes and then every minute until 47 minutes. For the final minute, the Master Hunter watches the map and directs the Hunters.

- Deciding on a list of allowed Hunter cars would be a good idea. I took my Sultan RS thinking it would be a good choice, not slow but not OP. I got blitzed by Spinnaker (I think) in a stock red Buffalo and when I was able to catch up, he barely moved when I tried to pit him.

- I believe this is already a rule that the Target can't drive a black car, but was only decided yesterday.

- Shooting from cars and hosting in autoaim would shift the advantage too far into the Hunters' favour, I think. We want car chases, we just need more of them.

- If anything we need more players and a good number of choppers. Perhaps for the last 5 minutes allow the pilots to use thermal vision like real police helicopters?

- We might need to have shorter rounds if the changes we make don't lead to more action, but we should test it again using full 48 minute rounds. Merryweather was scrapped because it was massively OP when we tested it.

- Map zones is a good idea, but it might be easier to learn neighbourhoods instead, particularly as some of us are already somewhat familiar with the neighbourhood names.

@T0X1C I gotta agree with the 3 points you bring up, I think most of us where guilty of them and they will improve with time if we can keep a regular group playing. 

 

As for the size of the map, I think we will struggle to agree here. My reasons for a smaller map are to drastically reduce the time of each round to under 20 mins so more people get to run. After 30 mins I was starting to feel a bit guilty at taking up so much of the night being a runner. If people are happy with longer rounds then I agree, there is little reason to reduce the size of the map.

 

I think it is the same with auto aim, I suggest it to make rounds a little quicker. Like you say though it will have an adverse effect on the length of car chases and I agree a good chase is better than a quick shoot out.

 

More choppers? I don't see why not, may have helped last night.

 

More players? I think it depends on who the players are. Locking it to 16 was just an idea that might lead to having a lobby of players who are more eager, more likely to communicate and maybe a regular group? Again though, there are negatives to this, I just sometimes think 'less is more' and some 'shy' people can be more vocal in smaller groups.

 

Cheers for filling me in on the Merryweather thing, I never tried it out. Could be an option to end a round after a set time limit though, whether that limit is 48 or 20 mins.

 

As for the map zones, I will go into it a little further as I don't want it to to sound over complicated or to distract from the more important factor of 'learning the city'. I would just suggest a basic North, South, East, West and Central guide sent out to all players so in the heat of the moment a broad area can be described with one word and little map knowledge. See the example below...

This could even fall flat though as without the mini-map it is easy to get disorientated.

 

Thanks for the feedback on my suggestions, also T0X1C you are spot on with the communication, there is little point in suggesting ideas in multiple places. GTAF is probably the best neutral ground for this to happen, most players from last night have an account here already. If not here then we do need to all be in the same place.

Judging by this website, a Schafter V12 Armoured is the best shout for a Hunter vehicle. Fast (but not too OP) and heavy. For anyone who doesn't own one, here's a list of cars with decent speeds and decent weights:

Armored Kuruma

 

 

I'd also suggest that people watch Failrace's videos. I learnt to look out for things like no indicators in the turning lane, no brake lights when stopped, etc. Didn't stop me from going after the NPC in the car in front of Spinnaker after the Master Hunter told me he was to my right, allowing him to back up and escape 🤡

Here is my footage...

 

A little dull, I also bent the rules slightly. My outfit was a little close to black (missed that rule as I think it was a late change). I also went into the oil field at some point, came straight back into play though.

 

The first vid starts about 2 mins into my run when I steal the Mixer Truck and call Lester, the second vid is the last few minutes of my run.

 

I also genuinely thought I had got it wrong Grenading Lann so I just stood on the spot waiting to be apprehended 😂

The only thing I can input is being allowed to leave the HUD on when a Hunter because without the HUD I could not see if i had a wanted level and when players asked, I could answer them as i was off mic and couldnt tell if cops were after me.... and many times wasted time chasing cops in pursuit of someone only to find out thet were actually chasing me. I think for the second round I let the HUD on because i felt it didnt ruin anything as far as giving me an advantage and actually helped to see when I had that wanted level and was able to call Lester sooner.

AFAIK Con you didn’t need to Tuen HUD off, just the Mini Map and Player Overhead Display.

 

I think you made the first round a little harder for yourself.

 

Not complaining though, you might have caught me otherwise. 😉

LOL. I sure did, I misread the rules on that one. 

With those two useful maps....im fully confident I will make the Hunted sh*t their pants next time!

I wanted to make a suggestion that at least two of the hunters be allowed to drive any color vehicle while the others have to stay in black cars. The most fun I had during this was just driving causally in my white jacked Recoto hoping to catch the hunted making a traffic error....that element of surprise was diminished once we were forced to use black cars. Now I love that we have to use black cars as it’s helpful to avoid chasing one another but I think “undercover” vehicle(s) would be awesome.

That's possible, but only if you're on mic and able to constantly tell the rest of us what car you're in and where you are. Also need to be fine with inevitably being harassed by Hunters anyway.

Been waiting on Doogle to share his footage before posting a full detailed post event recap.

 

I would be interested, but it's difficult for me to commit 100% due to other commitments. 

 

The introduction of 16 player parties to psn is a plus. The psn message group is still in existence.  Would suggest asking there, had thought about themed versions, ie. The Hunted has to dress in an alien outfit etc.
