About:

Event is based on an existing concept that is showcased in a series on the ‘Failrace’ Youtube channel. As it looks like a lot of fun potentially, I want to give a try at hosting this myself, with friends and guests. How it works is relatively simple, but there is a large degree of trust involved and a few simple rules that absolutely MUST be followed to make it work and playout as intended.

One player is selected as the ‘Hunted’ and the remaining other players become the ‘Hunters’. The Hunted gets a 2 minute head start to break away from the Hunters at the starting location (Los Santos International Airport).  The Hunters then seek to find the Hunted, who must stay in perimeter of the City. What makes this difference from a cat vs mouse, is that all players do not have or use any radar, and player names are turned off in the display settings. How the Hunted decides to play is up to them, they can try to blend in with NPC traffic or find a decent car, and be confident of out running the Hunters, but ultimately risking bringing attention to themselves.

How well the Hunters do, will depend on communication (party chats encouraged, game chat is ok), working as a team to try to detect the Hunted is essential and good knowledge of the map is vital.

 

To assist the Hunters, the Hunted is encouraged to ‘blow-up’ hot pink coloured personal vehicles scattered randomly across city by the Hunter participants. Hunted is to destroy these when nearby to give Hunters some indication. Note it is ‘encouraged’ but not a fundamental rule.

The objective of the Hunted is to survive for 1 Hour. The objective of the Hunters is to find and eliminate the Hunted within the Hour.

 

 

 

Rules and Settings: (subject to change, discussion encouraged)

 

There are 4 ROLES as part of this event:

 

 

1 Hunted / Target (Single Player who must evade Hunters and Stay Alive)

1 Head Hunter (Single Player who has 2 perk abilities)

1. every in game 6 hours / 12 minutes they can check radar and inform other hunters where the Hunted is located, i.e. neighbourhood
2. after 30 minutes have passed they can also called Merryweather Mercenaries to attack the Hunted)

Rounds end after 24 hours in Game Time / 48 Minutes.

1 Helicopter Hunter

10+ Hunters (Must listen to Head Hunter, and if they manage to eliminate Hunted before time has elapsed becomes the Hunted in Round 2)

 

GAME WILL BE IN HOSTED IN INVITE ONLY, FREEMODE SESSION. MEET AT LOS SANTOS INTERNATIONAL WITH VEHICLES

 

 

Display Settings MUST be set to have radar and blips OFF, and Player Names Above Player: OFF by all roles. TURN OFF ALL ABOVE PLAYERS IN ONLINE>OPTIONS (NOT JUST DISPLAY!!!)

No personal vehicles* are to be used by any player once the event starts. (Exceptions can be granted, such as Blimps / Non weaponised aircraft)

No hunters can shoot from their vehicles. (Flare gun is only exception to this rule)

The Hunted must not leave the city or, enter the subway system to evade detection, car parks are allowable, but no enterable buildings such as shops/ammunation/hairdressers.

The Hunted can shoot from vehicle and on foot (Strictly no explosives vs other players, but can use to blow up Pink Locator vehicles)

The Hunters can shoot, but only on foot (Strictly no explosives, Lazers, special ammo or miniguns)

Settings will be Freeaim, to allow the Hunted a chance to evade. 

Hunters are encouraged to use a variety of vehicles in their pursuit of the Hunted, but only One Helicopter is allowed.

Aircraft cannot be used to directly kill Hunted (No Kamikaze)

Once a Hunter has been killed they are to return to action after at least 1 minute. THEY SHOULD NOT IMMEDIATELY RETURN TO THE ACTION UNLESS KILLED BY ANOTHER HUNTER ACCIDENTALLY. (subject to change)

Voice chat should be set to everyone/ in game, but groups of Hunters may use party chat if easier.

 

Any participants that cannot abide by such rules will be banned from taking part and reported to Rockstargames

Will there be enough time for 3 rounds who knows, depends how the Hunters hunt, and the Hunted Survives.

FAQS

 

 

FAQ: 'The Hunted Target'

Can the Hunted-Target use boats / aircraft / swim?

No they can only use regular vehicles, or be on their feet.

Can the Hunted-Target enter LS Customs?

No, this counts as an interior and is therefore forbidden.

If the Hunted-Target is killed by NPC's or commits suicide, what happens next?

The round is deemed over, the next Hunted-Target is picked randomly and round 2 starts once everyone returns to 'base - starting location'.

FAQ: 'The Hunters'

Can the Helicopter Hunter carry passengers?

Yes, but they cannot shoot from helicopter (except flare guns), but could be dropped strategically on rooftops for reconnaissance.

Can Hunters create road blocks?

Yes, remember it's freeaim so in doing so it would not be as easy a kill as it would be in assisted aim.

If a Hunter is Killed, what should they do?

A. Not return immediately to the action.

B. Communicate with other Hunters
C. Return to Action after atleast 30 seconds (Not going to enforce this)

 

Can Hunters use snipers, assault rifles and SMGs/LMGs?

Yes, unlike FAILRACE's edition, the Hunters are to be heavily equipped on foot (But definitely no explosive or heavy weapons like Minigun etc)

General FAQs.

 

Pink cars?

They are optional location markers to help indicate the location of the Target as he should try to destroy these personal vehicles. Note it's not essential that we use these, but players can if they wish.

 

Why Freeaim?

I think it's advantageous to the Hunted-Target to be able to evade Hunters who could potentially lock on and get an easy kill.  If it is too difficult for those not used to 'Free Aim'. I would suggest using 'Free Aim Assisted'. But please try free aim. 

Disconnections?

If players DC' invites will be sent out by myself, others are encouraged to help. If Hunted-Target disconnects, game is 'paused'.

It works on YT because FailRace needs to make it entertaining for content, nothing would stop one of us from sitting in some obscure hiding spot for 1 hour. The referee should announce the neighbourhood that the hunted player is in every 3 in-game hours (every 6 minutes). Hunters will need good map knowledge to navigate to that area with no other information. Easier system than the pink car system. Technically the referee could also be a hunter, only allowed to check the location every 6 minutes by hitting pause.

I think this depends on the rules set and who you play with, when playing this in the past it hasn’t been an issue.

 

Hints from the referee/host, as you suggest would stop this if we ran into that problem though. Either way with a like minded group of players we can nail it.

 

@A J  Most of the rules are sound IMO, I will list a couple of suggested tweaks below... obviously just ideas not demands  

 

I would allow Personal Vehicles, but possibly ban supers/sports. Maybe suggest a generic car for Hunters to buy, black Buffalos for example?

 

One air vehicle per hunt regardless of numbers, this Eye in the Sky must be weapon free.

 

I would go for 20 mins max per hunt as opposed to an hour, if the Hunted survive they win. This will leave time for more players to play the hunted role in one night and stop Hunters losing interest and driving around aimlessly.

 

I feel there are a few things you can do to help flush the Hunted out, the Pink Car thing will work, as will T0X1C’s suggestion (which I think I prefer, also the Referee could also possibly role play as a Reporter/Narrator). I will chuck another idea in, after 15 minutes we can call Merryweather on the Hunted to give us a hand, it may not reveal the exact location but will add a lot of pressure to the Hunted.

 

A referee is a great idea if you can find someone to fill the role, but if numbers are low an extra Hunter may be more valuable than a referee.

 

For future events you could maybe add themes, such as Prison Break, Invasion of the Body Snatchers etc.

 

If you need a hand setting anything up just let me know, happy to help if this leads to a good nights entertainment.

There are 3 or 4 Vans players who have shown interest in this, if the time suits them there may be a couple more.

Just a brief thanks to the feedback above, appreciate it alot and agree fully with all suggestions. 

 

The idea of a select range of personal vehicle types for hunters is appealing. I had thought cop cars, but it might be a difficulty to set up... 

 

Great idea about the Merry weather back up / mercs after a certain time.

I used a Cop Car last time I played, I just called 911 on the phone called Lester to ‘bribe cops’ then called Lester again to remove wanted level once I had the car.

 

Was easy for one player, may be chaos for 10 or so players.

 

You could set the whole thing up in a user created DM though, you could then have Police Cars ready to go. This would also let you clearly mark the gameplay boundaries with props, however you would miss a few elements of a Free Roam that may be essential depending on what rules you set.

Helicopter might be slightly too much advantages for the hunters  no? If the hunted blows up a Pink car for example the helicopter can spot the hunted easilly.

Basically, using TOX1C's idea of a 'master hunter' role but changed time from every 6 minutes to every 12-15, and introduced Mercenaries to 30 minutes (JuniorChubb's Idea).

 

I'm going to individually assign roles for Game 1.

• Added additional role, 'Helicopter Hunter' saves any arguments of who gets to be pilot as there is only one.
• Listed additional players signed up/confirmed.
• Outlined that you must changed overhead player settings in Online > Options (Not just display)
• Voice chat to be in game / everyone, but parties are acceptable.
• Roles to be pre-selected, apart from Hunter, after Round 2. Look out for announcements soon
• Maximum players permitted to join is going to be set to 20-25.  With a remaining 5 to be 'SUBS'.

Please familiarise yourself with these rules, and anyone not on GTAforums, but who is signed up should be aware. Last thing we want is an issue due to lack of understanding, i.e. Hunter using guns from driveby, A target/Hunted hiding in a subway...Someone stopping to pause and check map etc etc....

 

Apologies it is a lot to read, however do realise I'm 100% confident that everyone who has' joined' can be trusted and will honour the idea of the event.

As for times, I thought the time and date were confirmed as Saturday 28th Sept at 21:00 UK time (20:00 UTC)?

 

I am good for either a Friday or Saturday, I can’t speak for any others I have added to the list though.
