The Time Ranger
Intros, they're a staple of many tv shows, but which are your favourites? Ideally a tv intro would put you in the mood for watching and tell you a little about the tone, mood or story of of the show. So what are your favourites. The Sopranos A great song by Alabama 3 playing while Tony makes his way home, passing by locations featured in the show, it's very atmospheric. Battlestar Galactica I have mixed feelings about this one, the opening melody is haunting and works well with the visuals, the high tempo drums at the end are stirring but it shows clips from the episode which can be spoiler-ly so that takes away from it. Still worth a mention imo. Lonely-Martin, Mister Pink and Mexicola9302
Guest Billy Russo
Sheesh this is hard, I could really name a ton of shows. Only Fools & Horses. One of, if not the best British sitcom ever made, and one of the best Sitcoms ever. True Detective Really adds to the atmosphere of the show in my opinion. Breaking Bad Simple but fantastic with a memorable theme.

sabitsuki
I'm just putting newer shows down here. Animal Kingdom Everything about this intro just screams 2010s period SoCal crime thriller, which is what this show is. Ozark The O motif with four objects symbolising plot devices in every episode adds an eerie touch to this show, and goes well with its blue tinted arthouse action aesthetic. Fargo Season 2 I liked how despite every opening shot being different in every episode of this show, the same typewriter intro is always played during the climax of these scenes. It adds an element of dark comedy and suspense, and really does capture the essence of the late 70s Midwest. Mister Pink
All my favourites have been mentioned all ready.. Boardwalk Empire Fargo The Sopranos The Simpsons Ozark but nobody mentioned the intro to True Detective season 1. The tone is really set with a kind of sombre song with imagery of industrial middle America. From a video I watched on YouTube about opening scenes, one guy says they used broken, polluted landscapes to portray the broken, polluted people in the show. A book of photography called Petrochemical America by Richard Misrach inspired the intro. This intro definitely set the tone and mood of the show. It really put me in the mood for it. Another great intro is the Twin Peaks intro... Lonely-Martin
The Simpsons is my favourite, glad to see it get a mention. A few others mentioned too, especially the HBO stuff. I have to add Deadwood to that list, a great piece of music with an intro video that really sets the scene of this dirty, tough drama. As a kid though, aside my beloved Simpsons, there was one other show that I couldn't wait for to come on TV and its intro was just perfect... The A-team. I love that show and even now, it's such a nostalgia trip to watch just the opening credits. (Sorry I can't link right now though). Bob Loblaw
I tend to not like colorful and cheerful openings, but the lyrics (specially on the full song) has kind of a dark and deep meaning, which is a nice contrast and, in a way, fits well with the show: It's a f*cking great series. Mexicola9302
I only added not already posted ones. But theoratically all the cutaway Family Guy jokes in the beginning are Intros too somehow, also in The Simpsons and a bit in American Dad. The Time Ranger
Banshee One of my favourite shows and has a great intro too. The safe code at the start changes each season and is a reference to events in the show and bible references. From a YouTube comment on the video by Ole Jørgen Barmen "The lock in season one says 42, 15, 68. 42 stands for the 42 deaths in this season, the 15 stands for 15 years serves in prison, and the 68 stands for revelation 6:8. This combination changes for season 2 to the numbers - 62 07 30 99." The polaroids in the intro also change every episode giving hints and references about the plot.
