For folks on Xbox, when exactly do you pay the 15 gold to get started - to get the letter sent to the post office, to collect the letter from the post office, to trigger the mission with Cripps, or to buy the butcher's table at camp - ?

I say this because I'm actually trying to avoid accidentally getting locked into the role, and having all the skinning stuff at camp - I'm guessing I can either avoid picking up the letter or leave it unopened, but it might be that there's a more thorough way, depending on how you pay for it.

Once you collect the letter, you need to set up a camp. After reading the letter, you have to meet him in Valentine (at least I did). After the intro you have the option to buy in.

Trigger mission with cripps, but you get the choice of paying it or backing out.

Ah, okay - yeah, just saw the Madam Nazar cutscene, and you get the same option ("purchase collector's bag" or "don't purchase"). Wonder if that constantly leaves you with a mission prompt or not - going to see if anyone's actually tried that, to see what happens (I don't want to risk it myself - same as how I'm cautious about never accidentally buying an offhand holster).

Leftover Pizza

I did claim the butcher table while the free offer lasts. Didn't know it also starts the role itself. Oh well, I got one supply wagon for the old f*cker and now he can rot again :D

Your camp stays where it was last session, i just joined in lemoyne, and it's still in the heartlands.

Annoying.

The marker may still be there, but there's no mission until you buy in. You have to collect a wagon and deliver it to your camp.

Did anyone get a mission to start the role?

And are your camps moving about?

I talked to Cripps at the general store and he told me to "get the wagon and bring it along". Then my screen went to the black loading screen for over 20 minutes. I had to finally kill RDR2 and restart. When I did, I was teleport-ed to my camp -which was in a new location- where Cripps was with the wagon and it needed supplies already. So I had to make a run. is that usual?

After I went on that mission I stepped outside of camp not far to hunt some pronghorn, and when I turned around Cripps had moved the camp again to a 3rd location. That is very annoying and I'm also afraid I've missed a mission to get the wagon home to start. playing on PS4 in the "Trader" lobby any help?

How much are the various camp dogs and where do you buy them?

Range in price. $400 being most expensive and talk to Cripps for the wilderness outfitter.

PSA: hunting wagon is available to buy in stables. Rank 10 in trader role.

I done the intro and done a quick scout round Tall Trees and Great Plains for wild animals...... donated to Cripps at the camp.

seem pretty straight forward and basic.

I need to grind up to Trader Rank 10 and purchase the wagon.

hopefully then i can go out hunting and load it up.... and go back to camp with a mountain of carcasses.

It all sounds pretty sh*t with the trader role. I'm only interested in the hunting wagon.

How much of a grind is it to rank 10?

Two Long sells

$78/$68

Wagon crashed; picked up cargo and continued on horse.

One short sell

$68

Two resupply missions

One resupply order.

No hostiles at all.

Conclusion - Cripps is family. And so is my dog Mojo.

That was my plan as well if trader sucked.

I'll just go bounty hunter instead

It won’t let me donate carcasses to Cripps for some reason.

Don't skin the animal. It needs to be whole.

Payout selling for Cripps is quite low compared to what you would get selling the same stuff to the butchers. However supplying him and selling the stuff makes you unlock the good stuff. However I had hoped for some more elaborate trading, like the trapper for instance. That you choose what the company should produce and from that had to hunt for specific animals. Some produce would obviously sell for more but the hunting might be more difficult and dangerous.

So I've only done 2 deliveries, both short distance and I've made $97.50 - Not a huuuge sum, but pretty good amount. Almost paid off my new horse already!

Also for those who dabble in all, when you kill the enemies: Loot!! I have earned 3 tarot cards from looting the people. Even when I have only activated the trader role thus far.

I can’t seem to unlock the trader role. I read Cripps’ letter and went to the general store. I stepped away while the cut scene was going and didn’t get back to accept. His icon has now left my map and I can’t get it back. I’ve exited the session and came back on and reread his letter, but still no luck. Any ideas?
