The Bounty Hunter General Thread

I like bounty hunting for the shooty bits. Payouts don't matter much to me in this role, but goddamn,  next week I want a Legendary called The Clockmaker which is modelled after the utter asshat that decided these things should be timed, because this is how you ruin fun. Put a timer on it.

 

I may be a little on edge because the first time I didn't make the clock was also the bounty that would have pushed me to 20 and I've run out of solo-posters in New Austin for now.

Bounty Hunter in the other hand, is just not good, I played it just for the sake of reaching rank 20 and the clothing pieces that comes with it.

Legendary Bounties are okay for one-time experience, the rewards are meh, you get like 24 dollars or 50 dollars ? Maximum you can make in one hour is about 200 dollars or 180 dollars ? Not to mention how it require a posse of 4 players to decrease the chances of a bounty escaping.

The other roles are grindy too but at least they reward you for the effort you've put into them.

Haven't done a single bounty since my first attempt to level this role to rank 7. I'm still on rank 2, which I've been for weeks already, and can't get myself to do any bounties at all. First, you'd probably end up sans camp after finishing a bounty. Second, payout is bad and XP is slow, even with bonus XP. Third, this is absolutely not my kind of gameplay. The other 2 roles keep me entertained a lot lot more.

I never liked this role and here is why;

 

1. Early weeks it was unplayable due to black screens.

2. Ranking up went super slow

3. Payouts are low

 

I think I was rank 6 orso before I said no more. Then I just grinded and delayed The Wolfman the entire week and reached rank 20. 

 

I do still play the legendary bounties atleast once and sometimes more(to hunt animals in solo sess lmao). The normal bounties I only play to complete easy dailies like hogtie/tracking arrow/bollas.

In a way I'd like to do some bounties, but I'm having too much fun doing the other 2 roles. Far too much to push myself to do bounties for just ranking up to a certain level. Frankly, I am already happy enough I to get away from Collecting enough to rank up the Trader role. There simply is no room for bounty hunting in my game schedule

New legendary bounty is one of a kind, I like it.

 

But that's TWICE now ive gotten the blue screen of death on my console while taking Philip back to a sheriff past the heartlands...

Not everything has to be looked at as a grind. You could always just Bounty Hunt because it's fun to do...

In the beginning, to speed things up a bit, I used to challenge myself to silly little things, like how fast can you "C.I.A." (EXTREME fast extraction) a target. I had many laughs barreling through NPC's to lasso my target & be off before the dust cleared, never a shot fired on my part. It can be as fun or tedious as you make it, but who am I, the guy who doesn't like the Collector role, to talk?

well, it's no fun for me to do them. Doesn't fit my character at all either. Each their own, but fun and bounty hunting don't go along together in my vocabulary.

So the variation Bolt Action Rifle. I understand that I have to put on all upgrades before purchasing the variant.... right? Does that go for wood as well? I mean does the purchase revert the rifle to a certain wood type? I love dark wood types, but I’m not forking over 350$ if it reverts to that reddish wood type when I buy the BH variant.

 

Also: Is it me, or did R* change what you have to pay for metal on guns? I think many of them were only purchasable with gold, but yesterday I could pay with normal money.

Has it changed?

 Don't know much about the variants, but I think they are "as is". That's one of the reasons I'm not buying them, I sunk too much gold into the black metal & gold engravings, to pay to erase them, just like that. I might have been half tempted if the variants were for ALL versions of the weapons, so I could have decked out my LeMats, but sadly, no luck there. I haven't even looked at my Schofields since the LeMats dropped.

I mainly did this for the level 20 horse, since EVERY horse I have seems to be at maximum "coward" (or 3/4 of maximum coward.)

I figured the Bounty Hunter horse, looking so buff, would be less cowardly.

 

Black chestnut, Turkman, Klad (TWO, one maximum coward and one about 3/4), Chiolelele(sp, whatever the collector one was) and the Breton.

Oh, even got the MFT after those; Had no more luck with it (seems about 3/4 of the way to super cowardly, like my silver klad.) 900 bucks plus, for each one, just to roll the dice.

 

This is with all of them at rank 4, fit, calm, level 20 job horse, etc. I deleted the Klad who seemed even more cowardly (dapple black), now back to mainly riding the other level 20 Klad (silver.) From a user's post here, I found out about the pressing down on the left stick to calm them, which was a lifesaver when wolves or such were on our bottom (made a HUGE difference.)

 

I found it fun to rank up, without being that hard once I figured out how. For me, it was just doing the $$ missions and/or ones with two people (once I got the bounty wagon.)

The bounty wagon made it WAY more fun, as well as easier (even for single person bounties.) Even with the reinforced lasso, I found some of them suddenly standing off my horse and moving away while guys were shooting at me; So the wagon helped.

 

Of the three, even after the black screen fix, it was the most difficult so I enjoyed the challenge. I have fun with the dailies, too.

 

Crazy-frustrating things can happen,  like the time I had two guys and the bounty wagon could not fit over the tiny bridge to them. Strategy is a big part of it.

Seriously, is R* CS for RDRO on strike as of late?    I can't seem to get any competent CS or IT support to resolve my missing inventory items issue. My character's BH career progression has ground to a halt without it    Anybody else missing the Bolas and/or reinforced lasso from their character inventories?  The reinforced lasso is only available from the horse inventory when my character is mounted.  I can't move the reinforced lasso to my character inventory with weapons load out.

 

The Bolas (which I recently unlocked and bought) is missing completely from both inventories. WTF R*?

ppl who say BH is a grind should set themselves some impossible challenges.

 

1. Like going after more than 1 BH target from Annesburg BH board in New Hanover. Where you're guaranteed to be lassoing up BH targets driving oil wagons and their hillbilly security detail with machine guns up in the mountainous and hillier map regions. Using only your Kentucky Saddler and not the BH horse you unlock as a reward.

 

2. Like using your BH wagon to bring in the Bounty of the week. Captured Alive. On the highest difficulty. From their snow bound peak mountain stronghold. Without wrecking your BH wagon once along those pencil thin, mountain goat herding trails of the W. Grizzlies  

 

Anyone accomplishes either of those feats, then you have my undying respect.

 

For the record, I was only able to accomplish #1 twice.  First time was for a 2 fugitive bounty in the W. Grizzlies. Ended up having to deliver 1/2 fugitives alive (male bounty lucked out after I had to drag the corpse of his gf/wife behind my horse). Made it to the Prison Wagon outside Wapiti with barely some 5 seconds to spare  

 

Got smarter the 2nd time around. Went after a 3 man bounty on lowest difficulty and was able to deliver 2/3 alive. This time, rode one of the NPCs horses with 1 live NPC trussed up on back of it.  The 2nd live NPC knocked out cold on my BH horse that was happily following along behind. All while dragging the corpse of the 3rd NPC all the way back to the Prison Wagon. Made a nice bit of gold that time around. Which was a nice bonus, since I was in process of saving up to buy the Bounty Wagon.

Right now, Legendary Bounties so far, are the absolute best for daily challenges & hunting, because there's no hidden time limit, so you can roam to your heart's content.

Not seen it myself but there are posts on Reddit about a new bounty and a 3gb download on Xbox & PS4.

To rank up the Bounty role faster, is it better to do the Legendary Bounty up to 4-5 stars or is it about the same if I just keep doing the regular bounties after one time? I wish they didn't do it like that it's kind of stupid but it annoys me because it takes some realism out of the game. I'd prefer different bounty targets with different difficulty levels, not doing the same one with increasing difficulty.

I can't answer you for the Legendary Bounty, but I can for regular bounties. 
A level $ bounty pays 30 XP for the first 10 minutes, then 15 XP for every minute after that. So it looks something like this:

This follows the same pattern as cash payouts. From the moment you get the notification the missions has started, until the same notification at the end, you want to spend 9-10 minutes per mission. Don't wait for the timer to almost expire, that is bad advice. You are better off finishing that bounty and grabbing another. This is if you are purely "gRiNdInG" bounty hunting.

I tried to do that on the Wolfman guy, but did not find it worth it.

 

I could do several much less difficult bounties, in much less time. I just focused on the $$ ones that were for single targets (or just $ if there were none.) Then it seemed to go up pretty fast, once that black screen bug was fixed. THEN, ASAP, I bought the bounty wagon. That REALLY made it go up fast (multiple person bounties, which were easier with that wagon.) Some of the two person $$ ones were worth a BUNCH of xp; I remember 700 plus a few times (to Bounty Hunter progression), or something. It is hard to tell now, since of course I've been maxed at level 20 bounty hunter for some time (but still having fun with it, for the dailies/whatever.)

 

I never tried the idea someone else mentioned, where they used an NPC horse and their regular horse following (to put one bounty on the NPC horse and the other on their horse, following.) That was clever It would be worth trying, before you get the bounty wagon (think they said they just jumped to the NPC horse, to steal it, then rode off.)

 

I"d also only wait until the last 30 seconds to turn in, if I was already close to that time by the time I got to the Sheriff (like 2 minutes, or less, to go.) If it was 5 minutes plus, I'd just turn in to get to the next bounty. Bounty Hunter was the last one I did and not THAT horrible to get to 20; Just bang it out, get the Bounty wagon as soon as you can (10?), etc.

Yes, I've done up to rank 3 stars of Etta Doyle.

 

The formula seems to just be throwing way more nearly insta spawning people on you. I finally managed to just isolate her as the one who is usually in town, then it was easier.

 

My only reason for doing rank 2, as well as 3, was because a couple of the stupid dailies were for the $$$ bounty (so you need to do the legendary for that to appear.)
