The Bounty Hunter General Thread

Recommended Posts

Jason

The place for all things bounty hunting.

Where to begin:

"Get started as a Bounty Hunter when you meet the Legendary Bounty Hunter in Rhodes and purchase the Bounty Hunter License."

"The standard cost is 15 Gold Bars, while Twitch Prime Members who link their Twitch and Rockstar Games Social Club accounts by Sunday September 8 will get the Bounty Hunter License for free starting September 10."

Bounty Hunting tips:

  • The level 3 skill upgrade will make bounty targets glow in eagle eye, making them easier to spot in a crowd.
  • The Refined Binoculars purchasable through the Collector role work well with this ability due to the eagle eye effect when using them.
  • The amount of $ signs on the bounty poster denotes the quality of the bounty, $$ is better than $, $$$ is better than $$, etc.
  • Doing a flourished holster with your pistol (double tapping L1/LB) will briefly bring up a skills menu (R1/RB) listing new spins and tricks learned through Bounty Hunting.

Legendary Bounties:

  • These are weekly bounties with a light story that increase in difficulty and rewards every time you complete the mission, up to five times.
  • The amount of stars on the poster denotes the difficulty of the poster.
  • Legendary Bounties do not have a Bounty Hunter level requirement and can be started at any level.
  • These bounties can be done solo but players may struggle without things like the bounty wagon.
  • When the new weekly legendary bounty goes live it may take a little time before it appears at a bounty board.
  • Once you've completed the legendary bounty you may have to wait up to an in-game day before it reappears again.

At level four you will unlock access to free mode events called Manhunt and Day of Reckoning.

Manhunt:

  • In this event you and the other players will bring in a number of bounties dead or alive in and around Tumbleweed.
  • You cannot be killed by other players in this mode however you only have one life.
  • Once all bounties are brought in the event will end.

Day of Reckoning:

  • In this event you will compete against other players to earn the most points by bringing in bounties dead or alive in and around Emerald Ranch.
  • Like Manhunt, you cannot be killed by other players in this mode and you only have one life.
  • The minimap icons for the bounties will tell you the amount of points that bounty will earn.
  • The mode lasts 10 minutes and will end once the clock hits zero.

Nice, did you pay or have Twitch Prime? Hope that's working, the 54 cards isn't. First day bugs, Yay!!!

I have Prime. Claimed it earlier today at maybe 12-ish CET. Hadn't registered a few minutes ago when I went to the spot where you start it.

Ah is this the one free with Prime? I still had to pay the 15 gold so not sure what’s going on. Already unlocked  a gun engraving. Looks sweet.

As with the collector role, the bounty license wasn't free. The bounty missions are good though. Haven't noticed any alerts that my bounty target can be taken from me so far.

Hello.

Can I be a bounty hunter and still be able to collect tarot cards, arrowheads, etc?  2 roles at the same time?

Yep. You don't "pick" a role, you buy a license and then you can do whatever you want.

First up: If you want to deliver your bounties alive, i would suggest getting the reinforced rope lasso ASAP, the bounties escape once or twice every trip back to the sheriff's office with the original lasso. next on the shopping list the horse and carriage, which looks mint!!!

6 bucks starting, probably increases with higher risk bounties. Also anyone know if you can separate the pieces of the outfits ? I unlocked that Charles smith outfit with the outlaw pass and was super disappointed you couldn't seperate it or at the very least take off the f*cking hat

I get 7.50 Dollars when i deliver targets above 5 mins remaining,10.50 below 5 and 15.50 below 30 secs

Btw Varmint is king, and extra tip when the bounty is cutting free a hit button will appear on the screen, hit them to prevent cutting free from horseback

Interesting... I never got my free access to it. I just spent the 15 gold since its whatever to me, but am hoping it gets credited back to my account.

Just wait for the B/O prompt to hit them. I am not 100% but the first attempt doesn't occur for maybe 1 minute, then they will attempt to break free. Even if they aren't on the horse, when you are standing over them or carrying them you will get the prompt.

Have been getting anywhere between $7.50 and $18 for living bounties. Not entirely sure what causes the price fluctuations. I think sometimes it depends on time to bring in and even efficiency. First bounty was to scout out an abandoned building, got overzealous and put an arrow through some dude's skull, alerted them while it said to wait for the target (though he was right there), ended up getting $12. Next at Cornwall for another scouting, I actually had the target identified so his blip was distinct amongst the traditional enemy blips... got $18 for him.

Also ran into a bug at the Mill in Rhoades. Picked up the bounty in Saint Denis, was heading to the scouting spot, and was told whilst passing through Callegia Hall that the target had arrived. His blip was the only one visible, and not him or his cronies could be targeted and shot. Figured WTH and tossed dynamite at them... they ragdoll and get up a few moments later.

Well there goes my boner for Bounty Hunting. I thought we were gonna make some serious money, not this piddingly less-thantwenty-dollars rubbish again. Might as well just save my Gold bars and keep doing Stranger missions.

Whats the bet that a full stock of the Trader role sold at the longest distance nets us like fifty dollars. f*cking joke.

I mean I was sitting at say.... $3800 and just before hitting rank two I was already at $4000. Not to mention looting the bodies (also got an antique bottle out of it for when I do get access to the collector). That and the missions do not unlock until rank 5, player target bounties at 12... and I only did single target bounties. I am sure doing double targets nets better (have not purchased the bounty wagon yet as I wanna dip my toes into all 3 roles and decide which I wanna grind out with the most).

It happens Haha. They also do not take that long to do. There have been thus far 3 distinct styles of hunts for solo targets I have experienced:

-Camps

Go to a designated area where the target is camping, take out their posse and capture

-Known location

The location is known and they are on the move with their posse (careful as ones riding around east of Valentine may be on oil filled wagons that explode)

-Scouting (takes the longest)

Go to a specific building/structure and wait for the target to show themselves. If you do not properly scout their blip will be the traditional enemy blip, and you may end up killing them if you are not careful.

Most of the time the target is within reasonable distance ffrom where you pick the bounty up, and you return them fairly close by. However if the target is in Saint Denis, Rhoades or Valentine (through a scouting hunt), you will not be turning them in to the town where they are hanging around. So you can in theory pick up a bounty from Rhoades, and have to deliver them to Saint Denis but the trip is never that bad, which is great considering Rockstar loved using those artificial gameplay extensions sending you cross map in GTA O.

And the best part is, wherever you drop them (even if it is at a prison wagon) there is a bounty board close by you can pick another up no problem. It may not net you the most money per hunt, but the quantity, the time taken and how often you can pick them up makes up for it

Thanks for the detailed info.

Being able to go from Bounty to Bounty interests me, the travelling between Strangers every bloody time killed my fun.

Best of R* logic; "Go get these bad guys we haven't got round to catching yet. BUT, make sure you turn him in within 8 minutes. If it's after 8 minutes we don't want to know, even if he's dead".

It isnt that taxing. Unlike stranger missions where if you take too long to get to certain destinations you fail... The timer doesn't always start the moment you accept the bounties either. This is a moot point to an extent.

It's just my own observation and interpretation of the role. Btw, something can't be moot "to an extent". Something is either moot or it isn't. 😉

Can't say I'm a huge fan of the timer either, honestly. Don't really see the point of it.

I understand why it's there I suppose it just really takes away from the feel of being a bounty hunter. I'd have rather been able to take my time maybe ask locals and follow clues. Threaten a few people and knock some heads together. If it took a couple of days to track down a bounty for a decent pay out I'd be happy with that, like how Sadie had been hunting Dutch by tracking Micha's gang

As it's stands it basically a Stranger mission, go - fetch - return. Repeat

So, I was originally going to focus on the collector... Boy that was a mistake. Fastest way to level that up is by going Bounty Hunter and looting corpses for collectables, cards and such.

Bounty Hunting is also kind of fun, the timer is a little weird... Why is that there?

Anyway, I need to get some more of those blue coin thingies and get a reinforced lasso. Damned Bounty got off my horse and fell off a cliff earlier. She survived the fall, but still.

I'm on lvl 4, elysian cave is the hardest mission, even harder if you play at night (without a lantern you are in a black screen) + the target is a kind of boss, shooting a 6 bullets combo from the hip!
