Hello guys, it would be really nice if you could post on this topic any tips and tricks that would help me and the others in the community to be able to enjoy GTAIII in the best way performance-wise.

Thanks

Those two fixes ought to do it. There shouldn't be any performance issues since this game is so old. Not unless you have an ancient computer. If you want 60 FPS you need to run the game in a borderless window. I believe creating a blank wndmode.ini in the root directory of the game will still work once you've installed the aforementioned mods.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but this is important for anyone who comes across it. The disc version of GTA 2 and GTA III use copy-protection called SafeDisc, which checks for the disc in the drive whenever you launch the game. Since an update in August 2015, Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 no longer support SafeDisc DRM. It is possible to re-enable it in Windows 7, 8 and 8.1, but not in Windows 10. This means that the disc version of GTA III does not work using the original exe installed with the game in Windows 10. In order to play the game in Windows 10, after installation it is necessary to use a no-cd exe (mods, let me know if I'm not allowed to mention this and I'll remove it, but this is also a solution on Microsoft's SafeDisc page). This skips the SafeDisc check. EDIT - It turns out that SilentPatch fixes this, so use that instead. You'll still need the CD present for the music unless you copy the audio folder to the game's directory.

Also, for anyone running a digital version, to fully enjoy this game, I'd recommend getting the map that came with the original disc version. This can be found in the PS2, PC and XBOX physical releases.

An alternative solution is to buy a digital version on Steam or Rockstar Launcher. These obviously don't use SafeDisc. However, even then, to fully enjoy this game, I'd recommend getting the map that came with the original disc version. This can be found in the PS2, PC and XBOX physical releases.

Using SilentPatch should be enough. It allows you to play the game without the need to insert the 2nd disc (but of course only if you have copied all the audio files from disc 2 to your hard drive).

Just like it was mentioned before - SilentPatch and ThirteenAG's Widescreen fix are a MUST have if you want to play GTA 3 on a modern PC with a modern OS. They fix so many issues that you'd otherwise be forced to deal with.

Really? I've used a no-cd exe for a few years now; last time I used the original exe SilentPatch didn't remove SafeDisc, as I was also using that. Good to know though. It's great to be able to use the original exe again. That's how I prefer it.
