Or you could see it another way. You buy the pass then you play the game. Not sure why everything gets described as a grind. If it's a grind then why play.

Because its limited time only. Meaning I am forced to play the game at a certain speed to maximise my earnings from the Pass. Thats a grind.

If I could drop the 35 Gold and unlock the stuff at my own pace be it in a month or a year then I would have no issues.

Only because your goal is to maximise your earnings. You are making it a grind. Just take a 35 gold loss and get what you can without playing an amount of time you won't enjoy.

I like getting what I pay for. I am not the one making it a grind, I would happily unlock all the stuff at my own leisure, its R* making it a grind by forcing an arbitrary time period to unlock everything.

Can a level 1 who just bought the game immediately become a bounty hunter or have an expansive trading business? Nope. Should they? Absolutely not, because they haven't earned it yet through playing the game.

This part makes no sense though because they simply can, lol. Buy gold. 😁

A rank one player can easily access these roles, and a faster horse than the stolen one in the tutorial, and a good selection of guns they only need gold to upgrade fully too. (Ultimate edition owners - And that's on sale currently at 55% off IIRC on PSN). That's the point of R*'s recurring spending, pay to skip the grind/no level requirements for access to new content. :)

Yes I know we will get drip-feed content, but it won't be related to this Club/Pass. You won't accumulate XP just to unlock some rewards that will be drip-feed to you later on.

You will instantly unlock said reward which is what I meant in my post.

Oh absolutely. I was more just joking over how a dripfeed is a R* staple with any DLC updates. Hopefully this just adds to the game in good ways by giving us more control over the unlockables. :)

I'm completely amazed by how a lot of people are reacting to this. For months people have been complaining that there's not enough to do in the game and that the summer update is taking too long then as soon as we get a whole load of new things to do everyone start complaining about it costing too much or being a grind. I don't get it. Do you want new content or not? 80 gold bars is nothing. What else did you expect to do with all that gold? Just sit on it and look at the pretty number in the corner of the screen once in a while.

I think it's more that we don't know how much of a commitment or time consuming it all is. At least for me.

If the ranking up is much quicker than the main Xp, no problems really. It needs to be obtainable within that 2 months without being a hardcore nut and forego other games/entertainment to be viable to me. It's a wait and see atm, lol.

If the ranking up is the same as the main Xp we get, this will prove a waste of time and gold for me as it's taken me this long to get to rank 48. This pass has it listed we have 2 months. If the Xp rate is the same, there's just no chance, lol.

Of course, it is optional. But we just don't know the depth yet is all. Could be great and easy/natural. Could be grind and a waste of gold too.

Given R*'s history. A grind isn't too hard to imagine, lol. Plus, what if we all make that rank too quickly or so many buy in that R* raise the rank or buy in next time. It's just where it all goes now R* have set the bar I'm concerned over.

6 hours ago, Leftover Pizza said:

Of course we do. This is a strategy to keep people happy and returning to the game. A login is a login and a number extra to show shareholders.

I still love that quote of theirs. 'GTA:O was undermonitised' lol. Stuff being a new player and seeing that trailer and thinking 'hey, the game's on sale, I might just... Oh, buy gold for it, of course'

But alas, I'll end up rambling on that one, and already have, lol. It's a very interesting time now that R* have shown their hand. Just gotta see where it goes.

I'll either have the game I've been seeking, or this is gonna be one hell of a car crash. Either way, I'm gonna have fun with it all, R* will do just fine either way. 😉🤣

And the return of 35 Gold will most likely be one of the end rewards and I doubt they will do it for future Outlaw Passes. Its just a trick to get you to sign up the first time and get that first hit of dopamine then you are hooked.

I'm not expecting it to be that difficult to get to rank 70. They couldn't make it the same as the xp you need for your normal rank upgrade because that would make it unfair on people who have been playing a while. But my point was that you don't have to get everything. You could just look at is as a small amount of gold for some more things to do.

Yeah, I'm buying content so I'm gonna want it all. Otherwise it's not for me nor worth it, which is fair enough too of course, we all got that choice to make once more is known. I'll await more info before fully judging this.

Just with Arena War in mind among other things, R* have a long history of not caring about fair or adding grindy, overpowered, or unbalanced gameplay, lol. We'll see. (I truly hope this game proves otherwise).

I see more it as claiming what I bought and if I went to claim my big Mac meal and got told to just accept it if I couldn't claim the chips/fries quick enough because I took too long to go collect, I go Burger King. That's bad business, so it gives me hope that this ranking up will be far quicker.

Why would anyone buy a further pass if they can't make this one work and end up taking losses after all, lol. It'd only hurt R*/T2's plans. But still, Arena, 1000 crates, 600 resupplies, and so on, those didn't have deadlines though, so here's hoping. :)

Except that it doesn't add a single thing to do, just some cosmetic unlocks that happen in the background as you play the game.

These guys are correct, it's a grind and a psychological trick to keep people logging in, usually used as a means to distract from the lack of meaningful content being added.

Feel free to "look at it" however you want, but it still is what it is.

FOMO or Fear of Missing Out.

It works well in games like Fortnite where its possible to be "the cool kid" at school because you have a skin/item that rare. As more people get it the players that dont get looked down on and will feel compelled to buy the Pass to keep up with their friends.

I'm not feeling the urge to grind away at this game for a reward of some useless trinkets and my money back.

Indeed, the whole update seems like a grindy mess, complete with increased grief-ability. Not even sure if I'll bother giving it a go when it at last arrives, it smells like Red; Dead On Arrival to me.

It's a dirty and smelly practice that does not belong in a Mature rated game but this just proves that Take2 knows what their audience really is. It just lends weight to the people that said that GTAO caters to the young teenager sh*ts. Take 2 knows who actually plays their games and buy MTX's.

With GT Sport they announced no microtransactions pre-release and then changed their mind and added them there too. Granted, it's not as intrusive, but my issue is, even with companies willing to make announcements like that, it's harder to trust any of it really when they go full circle like that too.

Even if this proves easy or a great incentive backed with involved content, I can only see it get worse given GTA:O.

I can't predict the future so you might end up being right who knows, but this is a pretty big claim.

Earning back what you paid is the hook for battle passes. It means you'll be back for the next one, and the next one.. and the next one. Which is what Rockstar want because they want you to be buying other things as well, such as Roles and clothes.

Battle Passes have become so wildly popular because they're a big incentive to play and they help significantly in the downtime between patches as well, giving players something to do.

I've been thinking about this since yesterday (I should do some actual work, I know), I can see the rationale in the arguments for and against.

What I can't get past, and it's something I've never been able to wrap my head around when it comes to cosmetics in battle passes, I just don't see the appeal in in grinding through the battle pass ranks only to end up with a bunch of cosmetic items that will make my character look like most other players characters.

The only reason I'd even consider getting the Outlaw Pass is the cash reward(s?) for playing how I normally would safe in the knowledge that I'd be getting my 35gb back.

The plague of all white outfits and half dressed hillbillies is bad enough, without the inevitable horde of battle pass and role unlock clothing show ponies we're going to see by November 18th.

Ideally the bits of clothing we get will come in different colours so we could style them to our outfits, but if it's literally just the exact same item of clothing for everyone then yea, I'll be avoiding them for the most part I expect.

I don't think we are gonna get a new Battle Pass right after November 18th, I think R* chose that date because it's close to December which is when we are likely to receive a new RDO update where we would experience the new Battle Pass.

Getting your money back is all fine and dandy but this is Take2 we are talking about and the big thing is seeing as we can earn Gold to buy the Pass is see no reason why they would continue giving us our Gold back each time. They make no profit from it.

Not from the people who have enough gold spare to buy every one of them, or the people who don't spend the bars they earn back on other things, no, but that won't be everyone. Fortnite (which had the first battle pass) did the same, you got your money back when you completed it but they still made sh*t tons of money from it.

Even then, battle passes aint only about money, it's about getting players in-game and playing on a daily basis cause if players are going to spend money, they need to be playing.

I wanna give this a try/chance to impress me. But the cynic in me wants to say 'make it a grind so most don't profit/break even. And along with natural progression dictating it, buy in price rises'

But I just don't know properly how these things work. Though as soon as I said battle pass to my lad, he laughed and said we've got what Fortnite has, cheeky git knows I hate that game. 🤣

Personally, we should be judging by what it is, which means price, contents, grind. We don't know the exacts of all those yet, so we have to wait and see.

Writing it off cause of speculation of what might happen with the next pass is a bit too much though. There's a bajillion battle passes out there and they all work literally the same way cause the formula works. Rockstar aren't doing anything out of the ordinary with this one either, so there's no reason to think that they're going to go messing with the formula.

I'd be more worried about the contents (potentially wacky cosmetics) and the grind than speculating about them removing gold from the next one or raising the price.

There are people who go to such lengths to earn some of the worst content I have ever seen just because of how rare the content is.

Same people will pay 35 gold bars to earn some special outfits and cosmetic stuff.

That's the purpose of "Battle Pass", it generate profit for Rockstar in a twisted way.

Those people will get to keep the stuff they unlocked, then after November 18th, all that cosmetic stuff will disappear making the people who earned the content special with their cosmetic clothing/items.

When new players join after November 18th, they get to see players with unique clothing and there's no way to earn the same stuff those players have.

This makes the new players furious which lead them to sign up for the new Battle Pass, then the new players get to have unique clothing too.

It becomes a cycle, in which R* have to provide unique clothing that is only available during a limited time event, people get furious because they want to have the same content which lead them to sign up for new Battle Passes

However, R* didn't mention that the content won't return after the event expire and you also pay in-game currency to have the Outlaw Pass so it's nothing to do with real life money which allow Rockstar to return the unique content that's part of this event whenever they like.

The purpose of this Outlaw Pass is to piss you off when you see your friend has some cool looking cosmetic items that you can't unlock without paying for the Pass.

This horse mask is a clear sign that R* will be taking online in a much more fantastical direction. I dont think SP has an item for your horse like this...completely useless and really a liability in reality.

Single player has these elements, but they are pretty much bread crumbs...I dont know if anyone has determined exactly how far things will get and which piece, SP or Online, will get a fantasy dlc.  I hope both story and online get the fantasy, but this is the first sign...that maybe its online only for these elements.

Yeah, that's fair. I'm just a bit lost with all this modern stuff and a bit worn by what GTA became. I'll enjoy looking and learning and see. Can't write it off just yet.

Can't praise it either though, lol. ;)

The thought behind this only be cosmetics, and this is just a wild guess of mine, is to avoid the lootbox idea. There are no items to gain that give you an advantage in this game, thus also avoiding a "pay 2 win" discussion, but they can still monetize extras to use in game.

Even though you can buy these passes with currency you CAN pay for with real money, there is no real gain. Just cosmetics.

Yeah, the Outlaw Pass is definitely better than loot boxes and cosmetics alongside cash and gold rewards are better than abilities.

I'd uninstall the game immediately upon the introduction of loot boxes or anything that was truly pay to win.

Battle Pass is becoming the go-to method to avoid stuff like lootboxes in my experience, at least when the pass is monetised. There's also battle pass systems being added to games that are designed to fill in the gaps between patches for free, such as Warframe, to give people a reason to log in and do stuff and get rewards.

They're basically designed to be, on paper, really good value for money if you were to compare what you get to the prices of similar items in the store (premium stores, so gold bars in RDO's case). Then of course on top of that you get yer money back on top of that making it seem like a no brainer.

They aint without flaws but if it sticks to cosmetics only and isn't so grindy that you have to go out of your way to complete it, they're fine. My only issue with them really is that there's a bajillion of them these days so progression in games is getting a little samey samey. It's why I think in a year or two we'll see devs advertising the fact that their game won't have a battle pass, just like they now advertise when they don't have lootboxes.
