Source Vehicle missions with chases by 1 heli + 2 cars combos: how to effecienty fight off the waves?

Hello there,

Title pretty much sums up my question. I'm having huge issues with those types of SV missions where you get 2-3 waves of enemies after you start driving the car back, which consist of 2 cars containing 2 people each, and 1 helicopter shooting from above. All 3 vehicles come at once, and you're almost always somewhere on a completely flat surface with almost nowhere to hide; and in case of most vehicles, trying to outrun them is pointless and would end up in 15-20k $ of damage, so you're kind of forced to get out of the car and fight them off.

My biggest issue is the copters. Without a homing missile launcher, I feel like I don't have the luxury of trying to hit the pilot or the MG guy in the copter while shooting from afar with my MG - while there are 2 relatively deadly guys shooting at me from the cars that come in my direction. That made me wonder: what is actually the most efficient way of taking down a helicopter without a homing missile launcher? Should I go for the heli itself, shooting at some specific weak points? Is there a trick to kill the pilot/MG guy faster from afar? Is there some specific rifle/gun that is especially good against copters? (I've started playing relatively recently, so I don't have that many weapons yet, mostly the CESP ones, plus the hand mini-gun that can be used from inside the vehicle)

El Diablo 702

Shoot the tail rotors, I’m not sure if taking out the side gunners causes the chopper to leave and have another show up.

Some will take more damage than others depending on where you have to start running from them, but basically always run from them.  Sitting and fighting will not only burn significant time, but you'll get killed over and over again with the ridiculous AI aim.  They can hit you repeatedly with pistol rounds further than you can snipe them.  Guarantee you are going to die at least 4-5 times defending one single car, especially with low level weapons.

Run, deliver the car, you'll make it back up when you sell it, but don't sell anything but high end cars in I/E.  Do other work like sightseer in the time that you would have been wasting shooting at the cars/helis.  You'll make $21K doing sightseer in about 10 minutes with no Buzzard, maybe 5 mins with a Buzzard.  If you're fighting waves of AI after picking up a car in a populated session as well, the car is visible to everyone while you're getting shot up by the AI and the longer it sits there the more likely someone else is going to take it.  Just run don't fight the ridiculous waves that come after you.  Normally it'll be $3-5K in damages.

I’ve tried the Cargobob method  which does reduce damage taken by the Source Vehicle, but it’s super slow and stray bullets do occasionally hit the dangling car (generally $2-3000 in repairs).

My preferred method is simply finding any location with a wall to cover behind, make sure to put a small distance between you and the Source Vehicle (to account for stray AI fire), and take down the bad guys systematically with cover and lock-on. Yes, you’ll have to free aim kill the helicopter pilot or shoot the rotor, which is not impossible if you’ve handled the ground attackers.

Invest in a cargobob, 0 hassle and 0$ damage most of the times and a little tip if you plan on using it, just source and sell the x80

Which mission?

Most of them, you can avoid the pursuit one way or another. I think only the photoshoot ones are guaranteed pursuit.

Kill the car and shoot the passenger in the heli but leave the pilot alive. That way only the heli will follow you but won't shoot at you. NPC pilots are pretty dumb, so he might crash into something... then you get another full wave.

You can also kill helis quickly by shooting at the tail rotor with the Heavy Revolver (2 shots, or 1 with FMJ ammo). The Assault SMG is a good option as well because its damage isn't reduced by range. Or use the Combat MG, the damage of which is so high that the range reduction won't matter much. (You can buy a Combat MG without level requirement from a weapon workshop.)

For the stunt jump mission you can simply approach the car from the ramp, watching for the one security guard walking around. When he's walking away from the ramp run to the car and do the stunt. That way you won't get pursuers.

There is also a glitch to avoid paying repair costs, but it takes a while to pull off, so not really worth it unless damage is more than $10k.

Sustaining $5k in damage between source and sell mission while not ideal is perfectly fine; certainly not worth investing like 3-5 minutes to avoid.

Floor it back to the warehouse until you can afford better toys. I would save up for the widowmaker so you can at least shoot the tail rotor out. You don't have to rank up to get the widowmaker like you do with the homing and rocket launchers.

another thing - as soon as you see red enemy marks on a map, leave your car off the road, hide somewhere and call some sort of weaponized/armored car like kuruma, tampa, insurgent, speedo and so on. That way you can safely shot all enemy waves away from car you sourced. Takes more time of course, but no deaths and no damage for the car.

Personally I just go fast.

But if you wanna feel extra safe you can always kill the gunner in the heli but keep the pilot alive, that way he will just follow you doing nothing. Don't lose him tho or a new one with a gunner will spawn in its place.

I've always just parked the car and then crossed the street to whatever is the best cover. Pop the tail rotors on the choppers with the heavy rifle, kill the car goons with whatever you see fit. Repeat until clear, drive home with $0 damage. You learn before long when-about waves of cars or choppers will start showing up during sources, and they all conveniently have useful cover in the area, save for the wind farm photoshoot.

That one's a crapshoot, and I tend to just duck the car near a turbine and then take cover on said turbine. Choppers often glide straight into them because the AI was coded by children and have no obstacle avoidance, cars can plink you as they spawn, but if you stay in cover, your regen and solid placement will keep you alive as you deal with them.

Definitely. I always stop just short of that point and spawn an OPII. I leave it up the road where I will leave the sourced car and jump right in after the car is in a safe spot.

I mostly use the cargobob these days though but that method works, once you learn the spawn points.

Kill all the cars and fly back to the rescue mission where the car is waiting for you.

Then shoot the driver and deliver the car back to the warehouse where you started from, and take out the chopper from behind.

If the chopper lags a little use the machine guns at least in the river and it doesnt get much easier from here more guards will start driving the train downwards if it cant be stopped you cannot proceed.

The Wandering Hunter

i just say f*ck it and use the explosive sniper, 1 shot cars and 2 shot helis. explosive shotgun is a cheaper option if they get close

edit

oh your new

just run, time is money and you waste time and money killing them. once you source an identical super car each time it gets easier. the homing launcher rarely hits what your trying to aim at btw.

Drive faster.

There are some cars (even among the top range, namely Z-Type) that are way slower than the pursuing cars even at maximum speed, so it's not about driving speed.

Cargobobbing them is easy for most missions as long as there is either a short distance to go to your warehouse (LSIA warehouse and doing the Del Perro pier photoshoot mission for example) or if you have obstacles to fly past.

An example is if you're doing the Vinewood sign stunt mission, sneak up from uphill, snag the car and shove the nose down and head for the tall buildings downtown.

The AI helo pilots are stupid. When you fly by the tall buildings downtown, ease close by to the building with the structure on your right at about half the height of the building, the helos will either bash into the building and die, or they'll get hung up long enough for you to escape.

If it's the photoshoot in the middle of the Ron Alternates wind farm, you can fly low enough for the helo to get snagged up in the hydro towers alongside the freeway, but you have to fly close to them and not high enough for the helo to go over the top.

I find LSIA warehouse the best location for planning escape routes from the mission points except for the Sandy Shores photoshoot: you really have to use a vehicle nerby to kill the enemies, it's just too far to fly a slow Cargobob.

The barge mission can just go f*ck itself, I always switch sessions when that one comes up, it wastes far too much time and effort.

Before the Khanjali was released with the Doomsday Heist the APC was my most used vehicle to fight them. Request it a bit away from the location where the source vehicle is, just far enough that the enemies start to spawn. The source vehicle may be damaged a bit, but not too much. :)

Basically prevent them for happening in the first place, I think I'd you do the stealth missions well they dont come.

If you cannot avoid try go under freeways or even use the tunnels I guess. I also find these choppers crash often so try steer them into weird landscapes.

Does anyone know if they run k 7k t of choppers?

the etr1 is, imo, the best choice for import export, get 10 low end, 12 mid and 12 high, sell any that you have 2 of and sell the etr1 over and over.

just hit gud at driving a particular car

Or X80 if you're a cargobobber, as it's by far the lightest = fastest getaway

How to not get chased from top of my head:

Stunt - get in car and steal without being seen. Watch the mobile security guard.

Chase - don't be seen on the way

Keys - don't be seen killing the guards

I probably forgot one or two, been a while tbh. But you get the idea.
