Waingro
Trying to think what these future roles could likely be, realistically, with similar gameplay mechanics from vanilla RDO being incorporated. Here's my thoughts, based on standard western film tropes and not projecting what I would want, just what I think is on the horizon 3-6 months out from now: "Gambler/Tinhorn" - Some sort of 'gambler' role that doesn't affect the world game economy. Think that cowboy tv show Maverick. Ability to "Rake" hosted games Unique derringer type pistol Bonus money for all-inning (risk vs reward) with a bad hand Something involving river boat casino missions etc. Accuse a player of cheating and end poker game early with a duel. "Cattle Baron/Rancher" More in line with the GTAO, owning a "business" - domesticating animals and/or raising livestock that you have to transport to the valentine/st denis, etc. Camp is now a small ranch skin / must be near fresh water Raid other ranches for good livestock and/or protect your own livestock when delivering. "Guarma Rebel / Wapiti Tribe Member" I feel like this has a lot of potential for backlash, but worth mentioning as both were significant storymode locales/characters. Fight Pinkertons "Outlaw" Straight up black hat "bad guy" role - some kind of pro-griefer type Safecracking, horse pills to escape custody Ability to rob NPC townfolk (and rack up faster wanted bounty for bounty hunters) Full posse integration of roles which are assigned for persistent posses: Think Dutch's gang: A money handler/debts to collect A con artist/special town missions A burglar / special robbery missions, etc. Or some combination of assigned roles that are needed for a mission: Collector, Trader, Bounty Hunter combined. On occasion, your posse gets a stranger mission in camp that sets up a series of specialized posse missions. Or gang roles from GTAO MC Club - these were assigned, buried in the menu, and rarely used: Sgt at Arms Enforcer Road Captain, etc Edited September 4, 2019 by Waingro Tasty_Pasta, Non Funkable Token, Lonely-Martin and 10 others

Lonely-Martin
A medicine man, maybe? Posse's gotta have a doc. Like Nigel West Dickens. We could collect herbs and animal parts and then craft and sell tonics on the road in mini-missions. Then we gain more abilities to revive players and give them a buff to their cores too. Maybe even their horses too. Xtf, Kirk Lazarus, MrRyanMcCall and 6 others

ghostsoap01
I could see a few roles: - Industry Mogul: oil magnate or textile magnate, very gtao business-like - Art Curator: collect fine art and sell them at auction - Rustler: rustle cattle and raid farms - Pickpocket: self-explanatory - Courier: run mail deliveries and do some smuggling - Logger: like the trader but run a logging camp - Brewer: either moonshiner or more sophisticated distiller - Weaponsmith: obtain unique blueprints for new weapons, make them, and sell them (and own them) levendis, LXXXV, Xtf and 5 others
Kirk Lazarus
Anyone remember in the previous Red Dead if you wore the gang outfit, the gang wouldn't attack you at their hideout. ...Unless of course you started a fight. Other fun ideas for a 3rd or 4th future update. Sherrif or Marshal How about a Marshal role? The power behind it is a companion posse of other Marshals. Sort of like a Bounty Hunter, but it could have other benefits like not getting in trouble inside of any town you're associated to. There's a lot of jails around the land. Maybe you'd manage one and have to defend it like defending camp to prevent an escape. Use or eventually own the Prison. Helmsman How about a damn ship owner role? Do something with all those water vessels for fast travel, circumventing raiders or marshals, move heavy good from Thieves' Landing to Van Horn. Buy canoes, summon them from a companion wagon driver, navigate the rivers and waterfalls without drowning. Prospector Similar to the Collector... except it's related to precious raw metals and ore. Mine caves and locations in the mountains. Build a mobile operation, like the riverside prospectors you see in the single story up to a larger operation like your camp. There's at least a dozen caves in the world right now. Craftsman Take raw materials and be able to craft new clothing items for yourself or to sell. These super items degrade over time, so naturally the Craftsman can repair them or just create more to sell. Make shelter or clothes for harsh environments when you forgot to bring something. This would need balancing of course... the current need for cold weather clothing has almost zero impact. Grizzly Adams An animal whisperer who can summon creatures starting small to eventually large to attack or subdue others. Flock of Seaguls, Rat Race, Wolf Pack. Monster Hunter If they ever release some supernatural ideas, like Sasquatch, Native American creatures, or Ghosts... use all those completely unused supermatural locations already in the game. Inventor Like the Draco in the story... invent remote control items, harness lightning guns, stun bombs, maybe even a flying machine or balloon... Ring Dang Do
Would like to see a military/soldier/scout role where you compete missions to move up ranks in the army. Unlocking army uniforms and horses as you move up the ranks and being able to use the Fort for cooking and storage like a camp. MusicMan05
Remember some of these roles could come as expansions/higher ranks of the current roles. Something I'd like to see happen for example: Bounty Hunter -> Deputy -> Sheriff -> Marshal -> Pinkerton Agent Collector -> Antiquities Collector -> Art Collector -> Museum Proprietor (They could add second smaller museum role before Museum Proprietor to make it 100 Ranks) Here's an example of how role progression would work using Bounty Hunter -> Deputy -> Sheriff -> Marshal -> Pinkerton Agent: Bounty Hunter: Prerequisite: Bounty Hunter License, 15GB Rank 1-5: Novice Bounty Hunter Rank 6-10: Promising Bounty Hunter Rank 11-15: Established Bounty Hunter Rank 16-20: Distinguished Bounty Hunter Deputy: Prerequisite: Rank 20 Distinguished Bounty Hunter Rank 21-25: Novice Deputy Rank 26-30: Promising Deputy Rank 31-35: Established Deputy Rank 36-40: Distinguished Deputy Sheriff: Prerequisite: Rank 40 Distinguished Deputy Rank 41-45: Novice Sheriff Rank 46-50: Promising Sheriff Rank 51-55: Established Sheriff Rank 56-60: Distinguished Sheriff Marshal: Prerequisite: Rank 60 Distinguished Sheriff Rank 61-65: Novice Marshal Rank 66-70: Promising Marshal Rank 71-75: Established Marshal Rank 76-80: Distinguished Marshal Pinkerton Agent: Prerequisite: Rank 80 Distinguished Marshal Rank 1-5: Novice Pinkerton Agent Rank 6-10: Promising Pinkerton Agent Rank 11-15: Established Pinkerton Agent Rank 16-20: Distinguished Pinkerton Agent Besides the usual suggestions, such as Farmer, Rancher, etc, I'd like to see an entertainer focused set of roles: Street Performer -> Saloon Performer -> Vaudeville Performer -> Traveling Sideshow Owner -> Theater Owner (would need a 15GB permit to perform on the streets) Street performers would be able to unlock every instrument in the game, along with sheet music for the songs. Besides performing in public, you can also perform in camp. (Camp kit rewards could include also a gramophone, and player piano) ventogt, levendis, Tasty_Pasta and 6 others

_-Chy-_
19th century photographer & explorer -Get assignments from the news-paper or the photo-studio. Or make unique individual photo-essays that can be exhibited and sold at the art gallery in St. Denis. -The missions/assignments could be a variety of things. Capturing photos of rare (sometimes dangerous)animals, landscapes, portraits of unique people, documenting life in towns(19th century street photography), special exploration missions to unexplored regions outside the normal map, etc, etc. -Being able to use an improved version of the camera we have now. With more manual options for aperture, shutter speeds, focal lengths. To be able to have much better control of compositions, dof, exposure, etc. -Dark-room(or light-sealed dark room-tent for your camp). To develop and print photos in true 19th century style. With options of experimental techniques & random accidents. Shepherd -Manage your sheep while you travel from location to location. -Have up to 3 companion shepherd dogs for help. -Defend sheep from attacks from wolves & bears. -Keeping the sheep safe & well fed, will make their population grow, and you can sell them(and/or their wool) at locations like the market in Valentine. (The shepherd role would probably be unique & fun, but not so practical online. Imagine a lobby where 10 shepherds (with their 1000 sheep & 30 dogs) decided to visit St. Denis at the same time, haha) Talisman_83, Failed Again, Non Funkable Token and 10 others

Leftover Pizza
Towns need brothels. Start out with a One Dollar House with 5 ladies and work yourself up to a Five to Ten Dollar House, up to 20 ladies and a madam to keep things rolling. Hire bands, dancers, entertainers and make that money role in the bank. Your madam doubles as a strangers mission giver. Retrieve a kidnapped working girl, or get additional ones to compliment your pleasure house. The higher the house ranks, the more strangers mission givers it accommodates, with more difficult and better paying missions. It's the oldest profession in the world. It's an 18+ game. It could work! Edited September 10, 2019 by Leftover Pizza C.E.Bolton, simmun, ventogt and 2 others

ivarblaauw
Farmer/rancher is something I would love to see. Not only that I personally want it, but I am really interested how R* would tackle this problem. I see two options: 1. Off map locations 2. Being a ranchhand instead of owning your own ranch. 2. Would work similar to how we do missions now. You can do chores in freeroam for the boss and get paid a sum. You can't own your own ranch since about 10 others could have the same location. I just don't see this work... like: woah ten other people are living in MY house?! In gta it works, since there are skyscrapers and all work can be done inside. In red dead... not so much. 1. would be ideal, since you would actually own your own ranch. Choose your own livestock and your own 'house' and literally build your ranch without interverance of other players. Why not just having to manually place the ranch every time you join. If the spot is occupied it's occupied. Just have the ramp have a very tall foundation and long stairs/ ramps into the entrances so we wouldn't need completely flat ground to place it on. It works in other games If you ask me, R* really f*cked up not using a system like this with our camps Edited September 10, 2019 by Chrismads ventogt

Pepperjack
Fishermen The ability to catch and sell tons of fish, unique and same alike, potentially to the fish guy from singleplayer The ability to purchase boats, canoe, row boat, motorboat, and eventually steam boat New fishing poles, bait and lures The ability to actually fish off said boats... Currently you cannot even give fish to cripps with the trader role so it would be entirely its own. Waingro
The thing is, will any roles be incorporated into formed persistent posse and/or be partt of a player economy. éX-Driver
I’d like the ‘Motorist/Mechanic’. introduces period cars and motorbikes, along with the requisite skills to fix them when you crash. Ranking up through it obviously awards outfits, visual/performance modifications, and the ability to fix ever more major damage and abilities to work on electric, steam, and petrol vehices. Also have the ability to fix the cars and bikes of people that haven’t unlocked the ability yet, for a fee. A travelling mechanic ability, essentially. throw in some bicycles as the first range of things to buy for people that haven’t ranked up yet, and require no special skills to repair
Rokushakubo
I've submitted the idea of FBI investigator on the R* feedback site. Basically said it would be great to have access to all the supernatural stuff from single player such as UFOs (or UAPs as they're called these days), vampires, big foot etc. It wouldn't even need to have the same progression as the other roles but would be more story driven as you look into these various anomalies. When I saw the UFO in single player it was such an awesome moment for me and I'd love to explore all this stuff deeper.
theEwing1979
Fisherman. Could be a separate role or an extension of the trader role. Loads of ways for Rockstar to take our money and gold. Rods, nets, bait and obviously boats. Moonshiner. Sell illegal alcohol to saloons and other buyers. Lots and fetching and carrying and we know Rockstar love that model. Again opportunity for us to spend on equipment, supplies, carts for transport. This role would also give those that want to go down the dishonourable route something to get stuck into. I think we'll see our characters owning houses and other business properties much later on. When that happens I'd love to be able to own a saloon or a store or even a whore house. I get the theory that it wouldn't be possible or realistic to have multiple players owning the same property. Would it be possible to have a system where you can only load into a session where there are no players owning the same property? Leftover Pizza
If only they could do things like an engineer, to produce useful devices and/or upgrades for those devices or weapons, vehicles and things like that. Sellable through an auction house, where players can post their goods and others can come in to buy from. Will never happen, since that needs dedicated servers, but it would be cool.
