There is a couple good ways honestly. Keep ranking up, is the first one. If you're still fairly low, ranks should come in quick. Every 5 ranks will give you a treasure map and those can give you a gold bar or two. Keep an eye out for Treasure Hunter NPC's too, you can loot maps from them.

 

Stranger missions in Free Roam can give a max of 36 nuggets if you wait out the timer till the last 30 seconds to turn in. Time consuming but they add up fast. Story missions as well. If you just take your time, loot bodies and stuff, you'll almost always hit max reward for story, no need to wait the timer. Just need a few folks who don't rush through like a lot of people do.

 

Daily Challenges are also a good way. Keep the streak up as much as you can, you only have to do a minimum of one a day to maintain your streak. Also adds up really fast over a period of days. If you can, shoot for every single daily every day but don't stress if you can't/don't want to do a specific one/'s. (I generally skip PvP unless they're real easy.)

 

Of course, PvP is an excellent source of Exp, Cash, and Gold. I don't live in Showdowns like some players but it also can add up fast. Little tough for low ranks, but just pay attention to maps and how they play and it'll get easier. Don't get intimidated by Ability Cards, they make a difference, but a bullet to the face will generally kill them.

 

It sounds scattered but really the grind is pretty painless.

So, bearing in mind I've just had 3 days off with no other plans (except a food shop) I've made back all the gold I spent on the update.  I got all 3 roles and the outlaw pass. 

 

I spent 80 gold although it should have been 50, support say they've refunded the 30 difference but I didn't keep track so can't confirm if they did, I don't think they have.  Certainly no in game notification. 

 

Probably would have been quicker if I hadn't spent hours looking for an eagle egg.  I've probably played somewhere between 20-24 hours solo, so if you can get an average of an hour a day in, between now and the end of the pass you should easily get your investment back. 

 

If you're only going to try one role for now, I'd recommend the collector, there's a fair mix of things to do and I think it gets you exploring the world more.  Trader doesn't seem profitable yet but I believe that will change if you get the biggest delivery wagon.  Bounty Hunter has seemed very repetitive so far, it's all shoot up the gang and grab the guy, might be better in a posse with multiple targets.

So far, of the three roles, I focused on Bounty Hunter, but I'm ready to take a break since it's pretty grindy & feels a bit slow. That being said, I did have a LOT of fun challenging myself to how to pull off a "snatch & grab" without it turning into a total cluster****. Gonna give the trader a shot until rank 5 or so, then try collector for a while.

I did that too! I'm almost BH rank 3, but ranked the Trader up to 6, now I'm gonna focus on Collector. I don't exactly know how to get the most out of this role, but I already purchased a shovel and the plan is to buy maps and find the stuff. Any tips or tricks are welcome...

The maps generally don't seem to be worthwhile, getting a lot duplicates but they might help early on so you know what sort of locations to look in.  If you buy a miscellaneous map, make sure you check what you're searching for, I spent searching an are before I realised it was a coin, metal detector out and was stood almost on top of it. 

 

In regards to the shovel, you can dig up mounds straight away but they won't be highlighted in eagle eye until you unlock that ability.  If you don't have vibrate on normally, turn it on as it will help you locate dig sites. 

 

Edit: nearly forgot, there can be multiple items in and around search areas so you may get a nest a dig site and a rare flower close to each other.

Personally I'd recommend not buying maps, just explore towns, ranches, homesteads or basically any form of civilisation looking for cards, bottles, heirlooms, etc, a lot of those places will have dig spots around as well. Do this until you get to level 5 then buy the metal detector and then do the same as you were from 1-5 but this time have the metal detector out as you're travelling between those places and bring it out now and then while exploring them - you won't get cues from things like cards, bottles etc if you have the detector out.

 

Anyway regarding the buy in, I'm more okay on it than I was pre-launch because people who don't have the roles unlocked can still participate in a lot of the new content, they can join a posse doing bounties, help out a Trader or collect valuables, all of which earns exp/gold, so while there's still a buy in to get the rewards you can still play the new content with friends or randoms.

The maps are indeed rubbish. You will find everything without it and make a better profit of it too. You'll also learn the spawn spots easier by just roaming the world and look for treasure.

When the update dropped, I had about 40 gold bars.  Started doing Trader and Bounty Hunter right away, and doing dailies.  Then I bought the Outlaw pass, and after a couple days I bought the Treasure Hunter.

 

At rank 31 of the Outlaw Rewards, and just now got back up to about 40 bars.  Helps that I have about 16 treasure maps still to do, did a couple of those, plus a couple more maps that I cannot pick up from the Post Office because they’re dupes...so need to finish those in my inventory that are the same so I can pick those up again.

In my opinion:  Gold Bars have never been easier to obtain.  Now is a good time to grind for them.

Not so much the method, but the variety of things that can be done to get them without getting repetitive.  

I get a few each night now, and all I do is a couple trade missions, 2-3 bounties, and a couple stranger missions, and knock off as many easy dailies as I can get.  So long as what you're doing doesn't get repititive for you, that to me is a good grind.

It depends on the support person you got. Just submit another ticket.

Now have the confirmation and the gold. So I did make the full 80 back previously.
