Seriously tho, if Complete a Story Mission comes up as a Daily challenge save it for last and do the Mission repeat and get the 4 Bars or whatever your bonus is right now over and over and over.

I would say they are still collectable. The update isn’t even out yet so you still have about a week to get them.

I logged on to GTAonline for the first time in like 10 months this morning and got a notification that if I killed enough people with the tomahawk I would get access to it in RD2, so I’d bet the cards are still active.

They won't be going away anytime soon, if at at all. The original reward for collecting the cards is a mask that won't be available until 10/31. As mentioned, the tomahawk challenge is still active, and so is the treasure hunt for the double action revolver.

I have over a hundred but that's probably through all the free ones. I got that psplus deal with the free gold every month. I dont spend it either, just in case. Will also just take up the trader as its i dont have to spend gold to start.

Not surprised at all the premium currency, will be the buy in all new stuff added.  I am withholding judgment until I can see all prices. 

 

I mean if you have been playing, or simply doing 1 daily per day and occasionally doing all 7, 45 gold is nothing.

Got 412 gold but will get all of the stuff for "free". PS4, have Prime video (which give you Twitch prime) and found the cards in GTAO. But it's still pretty stupid to have to spend gold to get access to them. DIdn't R* even claim at some point that we wouldn't have to spend gold to access stuff like this?

This is the bit they want to highlight, you can use real cash if you don't want to earn gold through playing the game. 

Gold is so easy to earn now I'm quite relieved that's it's only 15 bars per role.  I was expecting some kind of buy in and was looking at $1,000 so I could only afford 1 or 2 roles to start with but with 15 gold I'm not even going to notice it. 

 

It's not unreasonable to have a buy in for this things as long as it can be purchased with in game currency and you don't have to spend real cash.  15 isn't that much either, they've given away over 30 gold bars just for logging into the game and the daily challenges at the moment are a gold bar each with a bonus 3 bars for doing all 7 (with streak, without streak it's 0.4 each and a total of 4 bars for doing all 7 but that's still only about an hour a day for 4 days not including gold you get whilst playing showdowns/races/events).

If you play actively 15 bars is easy and 45 shouldn't be a big issue but if you've not played much and you don't have those gold bars lying around and you load the game up on September 10th expecting to jump straight into the update, you're f*cked. You aint earning 15 bars quickly and you can forget trying out all 3 Roles on the same day.

 

Is it a problem that players who haven't touched the game in months aren't gonna be able to jump into new content day 1?

 

Personally I'd say players who bought RDR2 and thus RDO on launch day but dropped it due to the severe lack of content shouldn't have to buy-in when the game finally does get some content. I'd be more forgiving of it if RDO had loads to do but it doesn't.

It's just another big f*ck you from either R* or Take Two ... whoever thought it'd be a good idea to charge 15 gold bars to enter a role! I'm leaning towards the latter "company" pushing towards this method.

Yeah, that's not how you get me or other people back to this mediocre online experience.

Try better next time, maybe by not locking everything behind a pay-wall.

15 gold bars per role isn't that bad. Many have spent more on clothing and schmucking up weapons. Those don't even make you any more money and the roles probably will.

Just jumped into online 3ish weeks ago, but have around 64 gold thanks to the double on dailies.  This also doesn't account for the bit of gold I spent on dumb sh*t.

Not terribly happy about the 15 gold to open up a role, but I guess there's no way around it.  Plus, I only have to pay for 2 since I'll get the bounty free for having twitch prime

They’ve said since day one that the pace of RDO would be slow. 

 

I think you need to accept that if you want anything in game without paying for it then it’s going to take time. 

 

If you can only play a few hours a week then it’s going to take a lot of time. 

 

Thats the the nature of the game. 

 

So if you don’t like drip feed or that it might take ages to level up to unlock things you better be prepared to bitch and moan a lot!

 

I like the sound of it though. I don’t want to be able to have everything next week and if it takes me months to accomplish everything then great.

That would be fine if we had content that was not mind numbingly boring. Repeating the same few Stranger missions for hours on end is tedious. Its not like GTAO that had around eighty unique missions from day one, its the same few missions reskinned in RDO.

Don't worry, you can spend it on the upgrades coming with the roles, like the wagons because guess what, it also needs a draft horse and that new horse needs a stable (R* talked about expanding the amount of purchasable stables)...

This is nothing to do with the games pace being slow, though.

 

It's simply a question of should there be a barrier of entry on new content

Technically you can get all 3 roles without having to spend any gold or money (ehhh... to an extent).

 

Twitch Prime- Bounty Hunter given

PS4- Trader given

54 playing cards- Collector given

 

And even on Xbox, you can at least get 2 of those for free.

It's not a barrier though, there are so many ways to earn gold that all that is really required is that you play the game a bit.  If people don't have time to play a bit to earn the gold to unlock all 3 roles they probably lack the time to play all 3 roles so it might be better to think about which role has the most appeal and try that one.  The gold for the other roles will come in playtime.

 

Of all the dick moves that rockstar pull this is not one of them.  Anyone that has played a while has the gold, if they even need it.  Picking up the cards on gta only takes an hour or 2 with a guide and it can be done in a solo lobby.

I addressed this is another post, yes if you play a lot 45 bars isn't a lot.

 

If you don't play a long you aint earning 15 bars quickly, let alone 45. People who dropped the game or haven't played much are going to load up the game on the 10th and not play any of the new content without spending real world cash. To me that's an issue because everyone has waited what, 10 months now? for some playable content and now it's coming but it's behind a barrier.

Not even that, I got them in maybe 45min on regular Oppressor using a video as a guide..

Nobody should be whining over that at all unless they don't have GTA V/O.

I wish people would understand this. People also instantly go to assuming people are poor which I think is quite telling. Not everyone has the time to grind out forty-five Gold bars. Someone worked it out that fifteen Gold Bars is six hours of continuous grind, that's some peoples entire weekly entertainment time.
