Both sides of the coat are hooked behind each holster so its even. Without it we would have one side hanging over your knee and the other hooked behind your main holster. Agreed, the long coats look funky to me without one. RyuNova
Vice Beach
So I've managed to glitch out the weapons locker to make it so you have no secondary weapon equipped and have the off-hand slot completely empty. Doesn't do a thing regarding removing the off-hand holster. Sad ghostsoap01 and The Dedito Gae

Caffeination
I honestly doubt Rockstar will ever rework the animations for equipping and holstering the off-hand for different holster positions, let alone rework all the coats to fit symmetrical gunbelt holsters similar to the one Dutch has. The best we can hope for is the option to disable the off-hand visually, to own customizable satchels, or both, but not different core animations. Is this that hard? They could mirror the animation from the right hand for all people care. 12 minutes ago, Caffeination said: ...let alone rework all the coats to fit symmetrical gunbelt holsters similar to the one Dutch has. This is sadly truth, reworking all the pre-existent coats to have the side holster doesnt seem very doable. Its gonna be less of a possibility the more clothing they keep adding to the game. I wish *R never gave that low hanging gun belt to Arthur, it just looks bad... even more so with the off-hand holster equipped, its unpractical and the animations with the left hand look rushed to say the least. I disagree, they've already tweaked multiple coats so that the sides hang differently over the two holsters than they used to when I first bought them. ghostsoap01
Its really too bad we can't remove the off-hand holster. Some of the coats that looked great now look so bad with both holsters equipped. Perfect example is the frock coat. Without an off-hand the coat drapes below the knee and it looks great. With the off-hand holster it just looks like a bulky tailcoat.
Foxwolfe
Personally I'm not a fan of the asymmetrical 'one side behind the holster the other side draped down in front' look some coats have when only one holster is equipped, but there should be no reason you can't unequip your off hand holster if you so desire. This is pretty much my stance. I would like the ability to remove it for certain outfits. Like dressing in a suit. Foxwolfe
So I ran into a bug last night that made me think of this issue, I purchased the unique skins for both my schofields (however you spell it) and upon exiting the gunsmith both my sidarms were unequipped due to them being in the weapon locker I'm assuming. So until I added them to my horse or swapped handguns I had none equipped, just looked funny.
Almostnasty
I can’t really seeing Rockstar fixing this or making a single holster option available after purchasing the off-hand one. A lot of outfits really do look trash with the offhand equipped. I mainly use a rifle and shotgun so having two pistols or revolvers adds no benefit to my play style. The new perk card made dual wielding a more viable option, but I still don’t prefer it. If you have any outfits with no off-hand holster previously saved, you can save over any outfit that does actually have the off-hand holster equipped to bypass it being shown at all cosmetically. The cool part, is you can still dual wield, except you won’t have the unsightly off-hand holster ever so present. You need a gunlocker for this next step. If you run to the gunsmith, unequip you off-hand weapon, then run to the nearest fast travelling post and go to your camp (getting back on your horse will force equip the off-hand you just removed at the gunsmith). Once you’re at your gunlocker, simply lock away the off-hand weapon you unequipped and now you won’t have to clean that sucker you don’t even use anymore! Unfortunately, when doing any missions outside of free roam, the game doesn’t recognize the off-hand as being locked anymore and it will show up back on your saddle and personal until you’re back in free roam. So dumb I know, but this is the only work around in my experience. Edited October 1, 2019 by Almostnasty
ghostsoap01
The thing is, I want to look minimally armed. I carry no guns on my back until I plan to use them, in which case I take them off my horse and put them back when I am done. You can't really look minimally armed when you're carrying around 2 massive pistols on your belt, one of which is on the front of the belt for all to see. At least with the side holster it can somewhat be considered normal, as most people you see, such as npcs have a sidearm. Coleco
éX-Driver
The animations for proper dual wielding already exist for several NPCs, and the longcoat fabrics work on physics rather than animations. And Rockstar is one of the richest game developers in the world, so the suggestion of ‘redoing the clothing code is too difficult’ is laughable. The only reason they probably haven’t done it is because the current crossdraw holster can easily be accessed by our character’s right hand. Having it hang off the hip like Dutch/Sadie would basically require the character use their left hand to draw it. Meaning we’d have to shoot left-handed for the secondary gun. And they’re too lazy to bother with fiddling with the melee animations for left-handed shooting. Like for executions and disarms and so on. I do the same - I carry a bolt action rifle or shotgun on my shoulder and a pistol at most, having lots of weapons is handy but doesn't look great (particularly with all the clipping). When I'm in my camp or I enter a saloon I put weapons on my horse... I don't want to look like i'm entering the Government Lobby in The Matrix every time I have a powerful thirst RuningKikFukSlap, PabtheFab and ghostsoap01
