GTA_CAT
So well I have always wondered how many people could live in Liberty City with its actual size. At this point everybody knows that LC is supposed to have 4M inhabitants, but obviously it's impossible that this amount of people can fit into such a small space, the number is given just for players to imagine the situation of the city. Despite my curiosity I have never got further into it but today I have decided to make an estimation based on simple calculations. First of all, this is just an approximation, I know that I should have in mind more things to make better estimation but being the city that small it wouldn't give too much difference. Second, I know that Liberty City is inspired by many cities, however, most references settle for New York as the main. Last, I used data of the embedded topic to make numbers, I suggest you to check it, it's very interesting and has a lot of hard work put into, and not only GTA 3. I have already said that the calculations are very basic, I have just taken population densities of Manhattan and the averages of Staten Island/The Bronx and Queens/Brooklyn. As I couldn't find 2001 statistics I just used the ones you can find at wikipedia, but it doesn't mind since the difference is not representative, and I didn't want to pull my hair out complicating things. Here are the numbers: POPULATION DENSITIES Queens/Brooklyn(Portland): 29298,5 Manhattan(Staunton Island): 72033 Staten Island/The Bronx(Shoreside Vale): 21382,5 LAND AREAS Portland: 0,37sq miles Staunton Island: 0,49sq miles Shoreside Vale: 0,83sq miles After multiplying each island with its respective density the estimation of people that could fit into Liberty City is 63884. Portland's population would be 10840, Staunton's 35296 and Shoreside would have 17748 people. So the fiction population of the game is 62,61 bigger than it would actually be if the size was accurate. Masny
In real life I live in a city which is just a little bigger than Liberty City, and we have 15000 peoples, so... funny thing is that Liberty have an airport, a metro system, two bridges, tunnels and ferry (LCS); and my city doesn't even have any kind of public transport, becasue its too small Another funny thing about LC is - in fact, third island (Shoreside Vale) have just like 10 homes, so poulation of third island is around 50 peoples //Edit - I forgot Wichita Gardens, where should be around 2000 people If Liberty City would be a real city, I would say that it has no more populaton than 10000 Edited August 29, 2019 by Masny
Motorik
According to GTA Wiki, the city has a population of 4 million, but I don't know when the wiki is giving information without a solid basis. Also, Masny has a good point. I'd say 40000..

god speed
I made a simpler calculation without accounting the different islands (I'm not sure how well the LC islands represent the boroughs of NYC): 3D Liberty City's land area in the map comparison is given as 1.69 sq miles (4.38 km2). According to Wikipedia, the density of New York City's population is 27,751/sq mi (10,715/km2) Multiplying those gives a population of 46,899. inadequate
Probably zero, due to the mass shotings, explosions and madness that Claude does everyday. Lol. Evil empire, EBEZAplaysgames, H-G and 1 other
gtafaninwest
I would say about 80,033 inhabitants in 2000, about 100x less than real-life NYC. Most cities in the 3D universe appears to have less residences, therefore has around 30-80,000 for the bigger cities. The USA and the world in 3D does appear rather small. Portland would have about 46,927 people, while Staunton has over 15,360 people, and Shoreside 17,746. As for Shoreside, Wichita would have 13,316 people, and Cedar Grove having 4,430. Lioshenka
I want to say around 100000. Each council tower block would have about 60 flats so that's 250 people just there. The houses along the river have probably been converted to HMOs, so we can safely assume that each window represents at least one person.
