Most annoying missions?

Recommended Posts

I had trouble with the blizzard(?  Niko hiding from people in that building half reclaimed by nature) and particularly remember "I need your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle" to be straight up frustrating and buggy on console.  The bank robbery was definitely a wakeup call but it wasn't hard to do if you took time.

unlike the other games, gta 4 almost has no annoying missions at all, at least i don’t remember. checkpoint system could have been better though

None to be honest. There might be certain parts of missions that can be annoying if I stuff up, but there isn't a mission I would say to myself "Oh no not this mission again" that's consistently a nuisance on repeat playthroughs and that's why I've played GTA IV the most of any GTA game.

It has an almost flawless balance of difficulty spikes that wont unfairly catch the player off guard, but some moments can still be quite a challenge if you're not careful and it does it with trying to irritate the player in ways with shoddy mission design/goals attached to them.

Catch the Wave is pretty annoying because you have to babysit Phil during the shootout, who runs ahead and gets killed surprisingly quickly. Which is unusual, in IV other characters can usually hold their own in shootouts etc and don't die too easily (even Phil looks after himself fine in the other shootout mission he's in). And if you fail you have to do that whole long slow drive in the truck again, which is ok the first two times with dialogue to listen to but tedious after that.

I also find Babysitting quite annoying just because I'm not good at shooting while driving a boat

Found the motorbike missions (I Need Your Clothes..., No Way on the Subway, No Love Lost, Ruff Rider) annoying at first because the bikes don't handle well but I'm more used to it now

Can't think of any others that annoy me. Never had any trouble with shooting or car driving based ones (ie most of them), love the shooting and car driving in the game. And I don't mind ones where you have to drive a long way or follow a car for a long time because I enjoy listening to the game's dialogue and radio. The Snow Storm is indeed quite difficult but I don't find it annoying because it isn't repetitive, it gives you a lot of freedom so you can try all sorts of different ways to approach it and escape and all sorts of different things can happen.

I remember being pretty frustrated with that mission, so I found a strat: before the Russians start shooting, you reverse the truck across the street and park it so Phil is covered by the truck, so you have a few seconds to kill enemies while they can't shoot Phil.

The only other mission I was annoyed at was I'll Take Her, but because I got quite unlucky, as Gracie managed to flip the car two tries in a row when she pulled the wheel.

Yeah I'll Take Her is actually quite hard once she starts grabbing the wheel lol. But I don't mind because it's quick and funny to replay. Once I did it where as soon as we got in the car I immediately started driving towards the safehouse, she still realises but I think it reduced the amount of time she was trying to escape a lot because Niko will always knock her out before a certain distance away, so that's one way to make it easier.

GTA IV (along with The Lost and Damned) is most likely the only title whose story didn't have a single mission that I really found annoying, or pointlessly frustrating.

But as for the most challenging, it's probably The Snow Storm when it comes to me.

None in my opinion. I liked Ray’s missions the most out of most of the characters. If I did have to choose a set of missions I found annoying I’d choose Bernie’s or Florian or whatever ya’ll call him.

how did i forget it lol? the missions are still normal though, it’s just a few annoying things like bernie’s voice, acts and stupid dialouge of him that makes you wanna loose your brain. i have no idea why niko worked for that dumbass

Aww I like Bernie. He was tramatized by the war too and also by having to hide his sexuality. The way he reinvented himself was a little over the top but it was a way of having a totally fresh start and moving on from his old life, which he's done much more successfully than Niko to be fair (living the high life in an expensive Middle Park West apartment, driving a sports car, banging the deputy mayor and not murdering people). He's an interesting character I think, his campness is part just being himself and part playing a bit of an exaggerated character (as you can see for example when his "old" voice comes through when he gets really serious/angry talking about Darko) but it seems to work for him, in contrast to Niko who hasn't been able to find a way to move on. He's a bit annoying but I think Niko gets it and I like how they end up getting along. I found his missions entertaining.

He helped him out because they're old friends from back home with shared history, and also because he was willing to try and help him find Darko with his boyfriend's connections. And he gave him a sweet Infernus for his trouble, he's a good guy.

The trick with this mission is to kill as many enemies as possible before Phil's A.I takes control of him and pushes him forward. It used to frustrate me back in the day, but since the number of enemies isn't that overwhelming and I'm such a good shot () I rarely fail this mission now unless ironically I just do what Phil does and rush in getting myself killed. 😛

Yeah I can do it, it's just annoying that you have to be so careful about Phil so you can't try lots of different approaches etc and that if something does go wrong you have that long drive. I don't even dislike the mission really (having a shootout against the Russians in a boatyard and the tense moment in the truck before it is cool regardless) which is a testament to the quality of missions in this game!

Honestly liked them all, for some reason the one where you trail the car for Manny always bothered me
