It's not perfect, but people at Rockstar have definitely sat down and said 'how can we get out of this griefer-orientated mess that our beloved game has become?'.

Let's make it so people can't lock on to people riding the op mk2, that'll take us in the right direction 😎

Why? Because you look just as dumb as R* when you use that in almost every post you make..

Peaceful lobby, 6 people, MK2 joins half-way through my source mission

Doing Cargo Warehouse and my creates are out at sea

I don't even reach land before he's after me, I hear the homing beeps and jump out of my buzzard. Land on ground and go ghost but no point, he sees me.

I try to kill him but thanks to Rockstar f*cking giving MK2 an advantage, I can't lock onto him so he blows me up, f*cks my last remaining cargo shipment and proceeds to leave the session.

Yet other members will probably argue instantly it's my fault I didn't go ghost and didn't get into a solo lobby the moment I joined.

there is one thing as such as people not admitting to being an a__h___..,

saying it's part of the game..,

another is to cover for them..,

or it's your own fault..,

not everyone knows how to deal with them..,

people should stop blaming the player instead of R* how things are in game,..,

dk why people defend them.., and why some of them act like they aren't what they are A__H____s..,

now that's the annoying part..,

(and those that defend it say it's part of the game, call/treat you like your low iq..,)

literally part of the game doesnt mean do it..,

it's a suggestion..,

with garbage pay..,

that only A__H___s would partake in..,

but people are learning how to counter act them..,

luckily the majority are idiots that don't look up how to counteract the counters..,

but still doesn't make it an issue..,

(but back on topic)

h avent seen any. but it's usually cause it leave pretty soon with the resource manager or if I see that white symbol on the map..,

sure it gets lonely not seeing other people making money and minding their own business..,

but it gets to the point it's not worth it..,

specially since all it takes..,

is one kid who needs a reality check when they spawn near you.., and don't die, even though you shoot at them, or blown up the car, clothing, and character they are using.., that is clearly modded..,

(off-topic sidenote: someone actually tried to use the excuse that R* advertises their games with modding.., this ain't f.., bethesda..,

people let one side get away to not lose the other.., we are losing so much cause of it..,)

To be fair, Rockstar have moderately acknowledged the amount of unbalanced griefing that goes on in freemode by:

  • Moderating 'passive popping' and not allowing you to go passive while in armored vehicles, including the dreaded Oppressor Mk II.
  • Allowing Agatha Baker freemode missions to effectively take place off-the-radar. Other players can still see you, but they are not alerted to the mission taking place.

It's not perfect, but people at Rockstar have definitely sat down and said 'how can we get out of this griefer-orientated mess that our beloved game has become?'.

Actually there was no need for this stuff to be off-radar, as you can do these jobs in invite-only sessions too. It's nice, but unnecessary. It is only off-radar because there is no reward for interfering, unlike VIP work and nightclub promotions.

You know what's funny?

Long ago, I landed in a session with exactly the situation you described, there was your stereotypical tryhard killing everyone, destroying cargo, EWOing and overall being an absolute bell end.

I was at my Bunker, so he didn't wronged me in any way, but I still thought "hey, why not?" and sent messages to everyone (sans the tryhard, of course) to vote to kick the tryhard.

Somehow, he learned about it, went to his mic and somehow convinced the whole lobby (even his own victims) to vote to kick me instead, which they did.

I didn't even got mad for being kicked from that lobby, if anything, I found it amusing and absurd.

I joined another lobby and carried on with my day.

You're not the only one lol. Exact same thing happened to me. I joined a lobby where some guy was going around blowing up everyone's cargo, no one bats an eye. I ask the lobby to kick him, and then the whole lobby kicks me "because destroying cargo is part of the game"

In all fairness, he hadn't done anything to me yet, and I wasn't going to sell cargo in that lobby anyway. I was just amazed at the game's current state where people will side with the cargo destroyers instead of kicking them out

Ahh, crew kicking/kicking griefers, lol... The reason I went solo. (Aside the grief/lack of balance).

I don't wanna kick folk playing how R* allows, makes no sense, I just want choice back. But trying to kick a griefer is like candy to a baby for their egos, they want the reports and kicks as badges of honour. For some, the aim is a BS lobby. Those warnings popping up for many just enhances their game.

I just quit if I get pounced on, no point wasting time trying to get the average public lobby to work together and there's a good chance that griefer ain't alone, and if he's part of a spicy group, bringing attention your way is only gonna end up with a session change anyway, lol. Too much effort and attention given for me and as I'm largely only there between on call stuff anyway, I just bail.

And I won't auto-kick like grinding crews do, so I solo'd the lot. (No complaints, I get why etc. Just isn't me. Plus I enjoyed the solo plod between my main gaming).

The crew kicking thing has cost me a good heister though. One time I landed in their crew lobby and naturally, no one else knew who I was and I got kicked. Asked my buddy if he could see it so I'm not, he said he couldn't be sure as I don't have a crew tag and he doesn't talk with many there. So, as it's inevitable I'll be kicked again, we mutually moved on. (Happened twice. No squabbles or anything, just best for both as he's done heisting and got his businesses - Fair play).

Had they made this stuff available in crew sessions, I know I'd have a far bigger friends list as it's got to the point I've told friends I won't help on anything in a public lobby in any form. Some looking for that help but wasn't getting it from me also moved on, rightly so of course and no complaints aimed at those guys at all, all R* IMHO. I just want that choice back to play as a team/crew, but without all this bullsh*t, lol.

But it all (businesses, public, kicking) thinned out my heisting options over time, lol. Still a bit of a shame though, great players. But I also found some real gems here once I embraced this place better, so silver linings and all that. 🤣

Kinda of a slight problem. Others have to vote to kick them as well, usually doesn't work well, as it is NOT reported to any other players that an attempt is being made. A far better solution would be attacking other players DRAMATICALLY changes you from being a 'clean player' to not. RAISE the reward 10k to 100k for being a 'clean player', it would cut down SOME of the grievers.

And the best solution would be allowed co-op PUBLIC sessions. ZERO PVP. that would DRAMATICALLY cut down on grievers. But that might cut into dumbstar's gravy train sharkcards.

What you’re suggesting might be good ideas but yeah, let’s just sit back and wait until R* adds that.

The Kick feature is built in already and works great, as long as people use it the way it’s intended. That’s what I’m saying, but just like @YELLOW DOG WITH CONE described, if you suggest people kick the griefer they probably decide to kick you instead, and rather have the griefer continue to blow up their cargo and ruin their jobs. It’s all backwards 🤷‍♂️

And yeah, @Arrows to Athens, the feature works best in small lobbies with friends, absolutely. On the same note I’m never pissed off I’m happily grinding in a lobby with strangers and they suddenly decide to kick me. They don’t know me. Idk how many times I’ve been on their end, having a stranger grinding in the session and then all of a sudden that stranger turns rogue and starts destroying sales.

Well, what I do is I try to communicate, say ”Friendly if u r” and that’s usually enough.

If I land in a lobby and see someone griefing low levels, for instance, I RC glitch / Lazer him until he leaves.

That's become my main form of entertainment now.

Griefers don't tend to like it when an already established one who knows all the tricks, uses their own tricks against them (and then some).

New, low level players don't deserve the treatment they're getting. If I was one, the MK2 would be making my life a misery right now if I lived in freemode.

So, I do what I can to take the heat off.

I'm going to be honest, these players all deserve to have their businesses ran into the ground. Not those who spent time & effort building up product just to see it gone in a flash.

If your going to side with a griefer, your just enabling their poor behaviour and eventually their going to turn against you but that's okay because you had one opptunity to get rid of these players and decided it was more worth your time to get rid of a victim instead of the villian.

I'd gladly note any of these players names down who side with griefers and find them when your next online  and destroy their sh*t, let's see if their still quick to defend griefers eh?

Sometimes a good ol wake up call is what's needed here.

griefin is getting worst and i think its part of the natural cycle of the game.

gtao have been live for pretty much 6 years, there are players that have been around for all this years and for many the game is stale and the only way of having fun is by griefin.

im a day 1 player, i still have fun in the game but griefin is my main source of entertainment.

But yes, you're right.

Actually, I don't play GTA online that much any more. Too busy with work, real-life stuff and other games in my spare time, but constantly belittling Rockstar by calling them dumbass names is something I take exception to. I've played this game for six years and love it more than any other game I have ever played. Why else would I still bother with these forums? I know Rockstar are not perfect and have introduced a griefing element to the game that many of us hate, don't fix their bugs/exploits on a regular basis, etc., but being offensive or rude to them on forums takes it too far.

Show some respect or stop playing their games. At least take a break from it like I have, and learn to play a few less hours in the evening, a bit more often.

Apologies for the Rockstar fanboy comments, but just because there's not much going on these days, doesn't give anyone the right to be continuously offensive. If you were to call me a dumbass, I would laugh about it or report you, but because it's Rockstar, it's OK?

In my experience, it's exactly the opposite. The sessions were much calmer prior the Casino DLC update. Even the IGN / MP3 lobbies.

It's less griefing when the game is stale, it's when the update comes out - all the kids come back to see what's new, grief some poor souls in the process, glitch some money and then complain that "there is nothing to do"

I've recently tried Counter Strike 1.6 again after taking 14 years of break. Despite the game being stale (not just "stale", but  officially *dead*), the community didn't look as toxic as the GTA one.

It's all chill, and it's just a pity that I don't have as much time on my hands these days to indulge in my favorite whim and fancy.

Whether or not you (or others) grief is totally up to you (and others). It's just a video game, and the only person that carries the brunt of guilt or frustration after a session is you/me/others. When you get griefed or are on the end of a bad session, you tend to walk away in a bit of a huff, but it passes along with the rest of your life. When you do the opposite and purposefully go out to give other people a sh*tty time, you tend to walk away feeling like a bit of a cunt, and that feeling lingers a lot longer.

I like to feel good about myself from time to time. You know?

Couldn't help it, true though. Pops was a milkman. :)

But I'm one that sits on the fence with the names. I totally agree it's a silly thing, and to see it so frequently isn't the greatest considering this is a fansite full of fans, lol. (Not to say they don't deserve plenty of the criticism that often comes with it all of course).

But also, I do think R* would find some of the childish fun in those names quite endearing too possibly, more because of the silly humour in their games. But I'm with you when you say 'cockstar' is better than 'dumbstar' lol. The former does feel that much more familiar I guess. :)

Calling them dumbstar in almost every post you make just makes it seem like you're not old enough to have earned the money you used to buy the game :)

I'm also sure R* can take it and they deserve a lot of the criticism they get but calling them "cool" names in pretty much every post is a bit dumb imo 😉

On this point. To be fair, we do get a lot of more casual forum users join in during pre-release hype that then jump off to play and get stuck in. Though I do agree with this DLC it does feel as though the drop off has been more noticeable I feel.

Survivals soon, hopefully that'll bring a few back as many have wanted some if the older content refreshed. Could be a good spell if those are good and challenging, plus players creating cool ones too.

Might reduce the freemode shenanigans for a few days. 🤣

I can't believe it's easier said to blame people selling over griefers these days and how Rockstar does this sh*t on purpose but I guess whatever keeps people happy with their opinions at the end of the day.

When you have people having to sell "Solo" constantly to avoid an over-buffed MK2 you know there's serious problems with the game then. We know there's problems with the MK2, we know there's problems with the Orbital Canon, we know there's problems with God-mode, we know there's problems with just about everything a griefer does but why do we still lay the blame on the people just wanting to sell here and get over and done with at this point? They've worked and put effort in, I don't see the Griefers with their sharkcard / glitched money doing that.

Yet if you have one MK2 come after you at any point even if 90% of the sale has been fine, "it's 100% your fault and you should know better". I don't know...but if the game didn't revolve giving the upper-hand to griefers, I wouldn't have a problem. instead I'd chalk it up to a fair loss if my product was destroyed. But in the last while they've buffed the MK2 as me & others have stated and nerfed over vehicles so even if you have some sort of defence it's been toned down to give those MK2 guys a huge advantage in screwing over your hard work. Should I be calling every MK2 that comes after my product & stock at this point a griefer? At this point I'm inclined to do so. So far in the last month since I resubscribed my PSN membership the only form of griefer I've had come after me is those on the broomstick. No one has come in the deluxo, weaponized aircraft or even a Hydra.

I call it desperate at this point because they just wait until someone sells, they call in MK2, f*ck over said sale, f*ck off to new lobby and rinse & repeat. Must be a pretty boring online life they'd lead.

I've not played it for more than an hour or two for the last month. Since the DLC really. Enjoyed getting that Gauntlet, made a video, then got bored and left it. Finished the story of RDR2 from 40% in, so I really enjoyed that.

But GTA, nah. Not bothered with it really. I've had more fun building rockets and trying to fly them to Mars on "Space Flight Simulator" for ipad lol

just as fun to grief a lobby of players, with friends on your side, in GTAO in 2019 as it was to grief player 2 in Joust in 1983.

Just had a level 100 something in an Akula go after my bunker sale Insurgent, firing homing rockets that naturally didn't even come close to hitting me. He probably bought it this week with the 75% twitch prime discount. So the griefers are getting worse in more ways than one.
