Is it me or are griefers getting worse

idk, i generally don’t play in proper public lobbies

depending on what i’m doing i either play with my money grinding crew, use mtu or use invite only

public lobbies have and always will be useless unless you want to fight people

There seems to be a consensus that blowing stuff up for sh*ts and giggles is bad, with most players conceding that if you had to steal stuff from others, then that would be at least understandable.

If you get your IE car stolen then, you can’t really complain.

Yeah I wouldn't mind getting it stolen as much as getting it destroyed. At least they're doing something with it. Killing somebody without destroying the car takes more effort too. Anybody can press a button to make it explode, but if they got you out of the car, at that point you just got outplayed. Though I suppose that's much easier in auto-aim lobbies. There's actually one piece of advice - if you're on consoles, play in free aim lobbies. People seem to be more laid back in them. You'll get griefers occasionally, but a lot of the time everyone just seems to be doing their own thing. You can even approach people without immediately getting killed

My particular situation was I had parked the car behind a wall while I was fighting the nonsensical waves of paramilitary helicopters and armored Schafters so that the car didn't look like a pile of swiss cheese with $12K in damage by the time it got back to the warehouse when one broomstick boi blew me up and another witch took the car.  My new method will be sticky bombing the Import car so that if some twat comes to steal it when I'm in the middle of fighting off NPCs they ain't getting it back to their own garage or a police station

I think the enemies keep spawning forever, so it's better to just keep driving. I tried stopping to blow up a helicopter once, but then another one just spawned right away, so the bullet holes are just something that can't be helped. I also tried going to LS Customs to repair the car one time, but naturally only your mechanic can fix it :D

I think all those videos from Helisexuality and other MK2 killing compliation gave griefers too much power. Those videos were meant to teach people how to counter griefers, but the actual griefers are using those tricks in the videos to grief innocent players now. I haven't seen MK2 broomstick griefer in a while, besides few low level idiots who probably just got the bike and tried to attack me. Actual griefers are using the current meta and to counter them you have to know all the tricks and no one has time to watch tons of videos on pvp in a such a sh*tty pvp game. Make sure to not play in free aim lobbies if you are on PC. It's full of tryhards. I've met the same tryhard dude and his friend like three times now. First time he was griefing innocent people so me and other dude started destroying him and he kept calling us cheaters. Later I met him and he used orbital cannon to destroy my shipment (I did the lag switch so nothing was lost). Felt like he was stalking me from session to session.

Just, you know, avoid IGN/MP3. Nobody in those crews will help.

IGN MP3 griefers are noobs. You haven't met the real griefers yet. On PC every tryhard griefer is using macros to use snacks, armor and suicide before you can get a kill. They lower their screen resolution, so everything is bigger and easier to hit and they lower their settings for high FPS advantage. It's really f*cking annoying trying to counter those no life losers if you don't want to have a tryhard game setup. They play this game like it's Quake or CSGO. I blame esports.

The best overall counter is the RC. They'll just keep doing an easy way out like little bitches if they hear you buzzing nearby (yes that counts as a death for their K/D)

They have 3 or 4 waves, I can't remember exactly it's been a while now but I'm one of the guys who kills all the waves and drives back.

Are we really going through this yet again? Trying to define whether or not there are more assholes in the world in comparison to five years ago? No, not more assholes, but different strains of assholes riding around in different asshole-enabled vehicles. In fact, I can be a bit of an asshole myself when I feel like it. We don't need yet another thread on the merits or demerits of behaving like an asshole in your free time within a video game. Do what you like (and read some good threads while you're at it).

this is poetry.

I haven't noticed any difference in general of any increase in greifers lately. It's the same as ever, some lobbies are crap, some are chill. It's completely random. Any sale you make in a public lobby is always a risky move, that's why I only sell goods in an MTU lobby.

I do just source and sell cars in whatever lobby. The fact that Mk II cannot lock onto those vehicles makes it a breeze and it's a bit more exciting that way, plus a small bonus too if I'm not mistaken ( like 10% extra). I have the warehouse that is right next to the highway near the docks. Makes delivering source vehicles a breeze and for sales, I always hit the highway first and get up to speed, then figure out where I actually have to go. If it's Madrazo's ranch, I just laugh and try not to crash into the stupid NPC drivers. Going up to that CIA guy's house though? That's the one that is most dicey! Alternatively, instead of the highway, you can take the long road that leads to the Casino as well, but the key is just keep moving. Missles no lock onto IE cars.

Yeah, I remember when people did this on PC in games like Bad Company 2. Lower the resolution so you can snipe guys on the other side of the map who are just spawning in. Seriously, the more things change, the more they stay the same!

If R*'s boast of 'more players than ever' is true, stands to reason there's more griefers. More grinders, more casual players too.

Not for me though. Invite all the way. 🤣

Bizarre weirdgrief? maybe? of the day--in a solo public and someone else comes in...guessing my MTU was a bit high and notice a few people come in the session here and there then usually leave.  Guy messages me if I need help, he's level 90 I'm 75.  I message back I'm waiting on product and ask if he does--he says he has a 2 vehicle delivery so I tell him I'll help.  I'm thinking, "hey cool!  nice to actually have helpful people in this game for a change".  Retire as my own CEO, join his org, warp to his bunker, we draw the monster truck delivery mission.  Of course it's the one clear across the map, almost 6 miles away and you have to drive the things on highways all the way over.

He gets there about 30 seconds before me as I hit a few cars and spun out in the thing on the way across the map, says he'll wait for me at the first drop.  He makes the drop, I'm about to make my drop, he retires as CEO but not before lighting a molotov on his truck which blows up and blows me up with my truck...full of his supplies.  Then he left the session.  I guess he just must have a ton of money and wanted to blow up his own sh*t just to waste my time?

Don't be silly. Some may be, but that isn't an absolute. Perfectly well-adjusted people may just wish to cut loose and act like this simply because it's a bit of video game escapism.

That just solidifies my assumption, as thats exactly what players turned pedestrian (read: crash/force-disconnected players) do, half the time they freak out (like in this case from his delivery vehicle catching fire) and run, other times they just walk off, they will always get out of any vehicle. When somebody joins a job or a friend they just fade out, only when they actually disconnect from online (by bug/lag/choice/whatever) the above happens.

To be fair, it is part of the game for rival organizations to impede yours. It is also not very realistic to expect to be able to run a criminal business in a major metro city and not have to deal with problems from other criminals.

Yes, there are plenty of people that take it way too far. The problem is that once you have played a long time, grinded and earned the things you want in the game, you don't care about cashflow so much so you have a lot of time on your hands. Some use that time to help others , some use it to hurt others.

I personally am sitting at about $11.9 million and grinding to maximize money/hr even though there is nothing left that I want to buy.

There are a lot of good tips here about taking the temperature of the session and gauging the intentions of the other players. But the temperature of a session can change in a heartbeat. So you must always be aware of what is around you. Constantly check for new players, etc. You have to know the map so you can override the GPS at time because that would take you too close to another player whose intentions you don't know or you know is hostile.

The one thing I tell new players is that the key to this game is speed. Every vehicle in the game can get up to a speed that makes it a very hard target to hit. Yes, some vehicles take a long time to get up to speed, but if you can carry that speed without hitting other cars, walls, wiping out, etc. then your chances of being prey to a griefer go way down.

You know a griefer is a griefer when you out play them by driving flawlessly and instead of respecting that you did that, they then blow you up while you are stuck in the "mission completed" animation. Don't hesitate to call them out in chat. Let other players know they aren't playing cool.

Or sometimes you are ganked by several. Call them out too. "Gee, it only took 3 of you!". or "gank much?" Let them, and other players know, that they are playing cheaply.

When I do detect a tryhard griefer, after I am done with whatever I am wrapped up in, I go on the hunt. A lot of people do. We are always watching who is killing who, looking for extremely high levels going after extremely low levelers. Or just going around blowing up whoever they can. Try to friend people like this so you can play in their sessions.

Lastly, the OP is talking about playing on PS4, and I just have to point out that on PC we also have to put up with the cheaters. No, I don't call them "modders" because they are not modding. They are cheating. Period. On PC, cheating and griefing go hand in hand unfortunately. Find a new session as soon as you see anything that indicates the session is being manipulated. Like a player teleporting, or an extremely high level, or a level that is a nice round number that has a meaning (like 666), or snowing, or you just bail out of your car accidentally (no, you didn't), or you get sucked into someones apartment, etc.

Exactly. I pointed this out in the GTA Online subreddit and everyone literally downvoted me. They started bringing up morals and stuff and how behaviour in video games is reflective of behaviour and personality in real life.

It's crazy how some people treat video games so seriously. Some tryhards may be assholes in real life, and some may be cool and just take on another persona in game.

I am a good driver and oftentimes this is how I've saved myself.  During a nightclub product drop, I killed a low skilled broomstick boi 3 times by strategically weaving through traffic and laying proxies in front of the cars behind me so he got caught in the explosions.  Worst part about that is of course I PAID $30K OF INSURANCE to blow up someone's weaponized vehicle trying to blow up my product, so he cut my profit in half just for being a dick.

I'm definitely glad I'm not on PC as the cheaters would drive me nuts.  Have only seen a few people clipping in PS4 lobbies and they were definitely griefers
