GTA: Grove Street Turf [SL]

Hello designers. This is my first thread of a project I have made. It is a fan-made prequel to GTA San Andreas.

I have been working on this project with my friend, Martin Strada.

Keep in mind, that we might get some information wrong, because we took information

from the GTA Fandom, the original GTA SA game and added some of our own.

 

Story:

Los Santos, 1989. The city is filled with gangbangers, drug dealers, and corrupt cops.
Sean "Sweet" Johnson, the leader of the "Grove Street Families" gang, finds himself on
a journey, that will bring his gang to the top. He was motivated to do this due to his
brother's (Bryan Johnson's) death in 1987. This story is fictional and has no relation to Rockstar North's
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Which means that it is a fictional storyline.

 

Characters:

Sean "Sweet" Johnson (Protagonist):

The character you play as and the leader of the Grove Street Families.
He cares about getting the families in action to make them strong, not too much about drugs.

 

Bryan Johnson:

The brother of CJ and Sweet and a well known member of the GSF. He was killed
during a drive by.

Carl "CJ" Johnson:

The co-leader and well known member of the Grove. He was not at the
place to protect Bryan from dying, and thus he left for Liberty City.

Tony:

A homie of the GSF that Sweet mentions at the cemetery in the original game. He mainly will give Sweet tasks that are related to the protection of the Grove. He joined the GSF in 1987.

Lance "Ryder" Wilson:

A well known Grove Street member, he is known for believing that drugs can make a gang strong and that you can make a lot of cash from it.

Melvin "Big Smoke" Harris:

A well known member of the GSF. He is known for liking to cause trouble with
other gangs.

Kendl Johnson:

This looks very interesting man. I like how you used characters who had no presence in the San Andreas storyline and made them into well-designed ones. I'll check this storyline out later today.

@bananaking13 I appreciate your interest in his missionpack, but could you please cut out the large quote or at least edit and shorten it. It is always recommended not to quote entire large post because it clutters the thread. Thanks!

The biggest sin an action piece of media can commit is being boring. Unfortunately, this is the case with Grove Street Turf.

 

I am a sucker for GTA-like projects. Give me a good prequel/sequel/universe expansion and I'll be delighted. But with Grove Street Turf, which I didn't anticipate to be a masterpiece if I'm being honest, I'm not delighted. I'm quite disappointed with the outcome. The plot is uninspired, and many missions, especially Tony's, just repeat and rip off the existing missions from the original game. The characters don't feel like their actual selves, and this can also be attributed to the quite awful script. None of the dialogue feels natural. There are also some inconsistencies with the SA universe. When Sweet mentions Big Devil and Lil Devil in the first mission of San Andreas, it is implied that CJ knew both beforehand, while this project has them meet Sweet in 1989 when CJ is still in Liberty City. There's also the case with Ralph Pendelbury being a member of C.R.A.S.H., which is neither confirmed nor denied, but considering that he was digging up the information on Tenpenny and Pulaski to expose their corrupt ways and in the end bit the bullet for it, I find it unbelievable that he'd be working with them in the first place.

Gameplay-wise, as I've said before, it's pretty uninspired, with some missions, notably Party Interrupted and Sweet's Sister, straight up ripping off the existing missions, House Party and Sweet's Girl respectively. The other, "original", missions aren't that creative as well, but I guess that's a given when we're talking about GTA-like projects.

 

Overall, a pretty disappointing collaboration.

I know I know, the first time I saw this, I was overreacting. But then I realised that you're right, there are major mission and story issues within this series. And it's my first time ever doing a big project anyways. I will need to improve in the future.
