gibsonteddyj
I've tried various methods of my own concoction but nothing works. I still get the idling message after a couple minutes. Anybody have a method that works? 1,000 miles is painful when the miles rack up soooo slowly. wehweh01 and Xtf

Generally I would have reservations about trying an exploit to pull off an achievement. This one is the worst grind I have come across though. I have already completed all of the other train related belt buckles. As best I can judge, a full trip starting from St. Denis and returning to St. Denis accounts for 10 miles and takes approx. 20 minutes to complete the circuit. EDIT: the complete loop takes approx. 35ish minutes. Edited August 19, 2019 by gibsonteddyj

StyxTx
If you get on the train in Rhodes, ride it all the way back around to St. Denis, that is 8 miles according to the game. In reality it should be a minimum of 100 miles.

StyxTx
The map has to be more than 8 miles around. Otherwise towns are only 1/2 mile apart at most. They look a lot farther than that. If you ride from St. Denis to Wallace Station, it takes more than 1 day in game time. It wouldn't take anywhere near that in reality if it were really 8 miles. 8 miles by horse would take no more than an hour or 1 1/2. It's 20 miles or more taking a beltway around any city today. So basically, the entire eastern part of the map is smaller than a city. Edited August 16, 2019 by StyxTx Xtf

I would guess that I've did 15 or so stranger missions that require you to return a canoe plus the handful of dailies that have required riding around in a canoe...I'm only at 3/100. Did the canoe buckle require 1,000 miles at an earlier stage in the game? I might have imagined that it was 1,000 but thought I had seen it at the distance. 2 hours ago, Stupidis said: Edit: Even better: Very creative!!!!! 1 hour ago, CMCSAVAGE said: Such as? I tried taping the X button (PS4) and rubberbanding the right stick while driving the train. It still idles out. Another thing I tried...I was able to wedge my character behind a box in one of the cars. I tried the same thing with the X button and right stick. That worked for a couple minutes then "s**t went wrong" and I ran off the train and got run over. Xtf
I got a few miles whilst I was doing housework, just had to nudge rhe stick every 10 minutes or so. You could try setting your controller so you're walking in a circle in the middle of a wagon. The canoe one is never happening for me unless a canoe appears at the source of a river and I can just ride the rapids all the way down.
Failed Again
Maybe just dedicate a year to Railroad Baron, missions or Posse up with wehweh01, he will get your there in much less time Edited August 16, 2019 by Failed Again
gibsonteddyj
I have thought about doing Kerosene, Tar, and Greed story mission over and over again. Could rack up maxim gun kills as well. 2 hours ago, Failed Again said: Maybe just dedicate a year to Railroad Baron, missions or Posse up with wehweh01, he will get your there in much less time I have thought about doing Kerosene, Tar, and Greed story mission over and over again. Van_Hellsing
I tried taping the acceleration button. If you don't move the stick it will idle out. Everytime I made a round, some d-bag will board and will try to shoot me. If I see them approach the locomotive cabin, I will take out my LeMats and blast them with the shotguns. I am beyond asking questions. That's the problem with RDR2 online. There's always someone trying to spoil your fun. DentureDynamite
Must admit I had fun taking the train all the way 'round the map last night. Pick off birds with your varmint rifle, take in the sights, shoot NPCs without getting caught... throw dynamite at the gang hideout along the river in Lemoyne. ...even had a laugh at several lawmen in St. Denis who tried chasing the train to get me--hearing them die as the train "kicked their bucket" was quite satisfying. Not sure how to crank up those miles; though for some reason I got 50XP for something associated with riding the train. You likely got the +50exp for hitting the fist milestone of riding the train for 10 miles. I followed the train for a couple of loops to complete the jumping to a moving train belt buckle. There were some hilarious disasters getting off the train and back onto the horse. DentureDynamite and Van_Hellsing

It's just that they think their fun is more important than yours. The result is the same. The appeal of gta and RDR2O is that griefing has no consequences. YOU are the entertainment. If I can turn the tables on a griefer, it brings a smile on my face. It's annoying as hell, I am trying to get an achievement. In itself, getting the achievement is awkward enough. I noticed an increase in hostile encounters when dealing with stranger missions. Some players run over or trying to shoot the stranger in need. The lack of content is the driving force, I guess.
