Now that we have Defensive mode, should the proximity blips go back to how they were at launch?

Those looking to PvP do showdowns, those who are looking to shoot someone in the back that has zero interest in PvP lurk in Freeroam. Figured that is a distinction that needs to be pointed out. There is also the fact you ultimately lose more than what you gain shooting each other for hours on end in free roam, many figured it be better to do it in showdowns where they actually gain money and gold for doing so. Most of those who intentionally choose to stick to free roam do so for the sole purpose of getting enjoyment out of trying to grief those who are not interested in taking part. They don't let a little thing like defensive deter them either. Many from what I seen will use explosive rounds to one shot you despite being in defensive. This is most likely the primary reason why Rockstar is increasing the damage reduction for defensive mode in the summer update.

 

This same behavior is what drives players in GTAO every day to seclude themselves to solo sessions. Cause otherwise you'd be lucky to get five feet without getting shot at in most public sessions.  At least with defensive at work those players are staying in public sessions instead of trying to find methods to isolate themselves from the player community. Exactly what Rockstar sought out to do. Guess thats one of the few lessons they did learn from GTAO. Makes me wonder though why they don't implement such changes for GTAO too.

Not necessarily true. When you are doing a free roam mission other players are told that it's going ahead and that you can attack them. So possibly getting attacked is part of it. If someone is doing a mission and I fire at them then there is nothing wrong with this. It's part of them game. That's not griefing.

Thats clearly not what I was talking about. I am talking about doing hunting, fishing, basically just minding your own business and then getting shot for the sh*ts and giggles.

Not to mention the missions you're talking about require being in the right place at the right time since it does not send a universal blip to everyone in the session, just those nearby. Good luck wandering aimlessly in hopes you stumble upon someone doing a PvP enabled Stranger mission.

Well that's the problem. Free roam missions are not a challenge while you can only be attacked by someone close by. Moving things around endlessly isn't my idea of fun. Even if we don't get blips showing up for non aggressive players who are more than 15 seconds ride away I think free roam missions should show up to everyone on the map no matter where they are.

It can be argued that most, if not all PvE related missions for free roam as well as Land of Opportunity missions are not a challenge. People compete with one another to get all the kills and loot for themselves more than anything. The only thing the PvP element decides is whether something of benefit for you results from it.

I hate PvP in RDO for two reasons. Firstly the cards which add a Rock, Paper, Scissors element to the gameplay and secondly the explosive ammunition. You have no idea when a player has explosives loaded until you're already dead. I see a player carrying a Minigun or Rocket launcher in GTAO, I immediately know what they're capable of just by looking at them and can act accordingly. You cannot do such a thing with the ammunition types in RDO. Good game design requires players being able to identify what another player is capable of through sight alone.

 

Even if Rockstar did what you wanted most players won't bother if it either:

1. Requires spending money to fast travel to their general area. The minuscule reward for doing so just makes this worse.

2. Requires a lengthy period of time mashing the sprint button to catch up to them. They will most likely turn it in successfully long before you can get anywhere near them anyway.

 

This isn't Gta where you can hop in a Jet and be on the opposite side of the map in a matter of 60 seconds at the most. I find proximity alerts even more important for GTAO specifically because of that fact.

God no! It makes it feel just right. The wilderness isn't meant to feel crowded.

 

Now parley, that I think should be scaled back. Messing with someone, only to go passive parley right away, is pretty lame. Don't see the point of it anymore either, now the more advanced and intelligent defensive mode is there.

The problem is not with griefing, it's unbalanced game design. If I attack a rank 6 dude on his wagon because ya know supposedly it's "fair game" to do so, me being at 178 well... sorry but that dude is done. Nothing that person can do to defend themselves. It is just a massive L for them.

I also often play on free aim purely with my friend who refuses to go auto aim or use dead eye ( imagine the disadvantage). I can tell you it is pure sh*t trying to pvp anyone in any free roam scenario. Game is just not built for balance as of now. Just earlier a pib user shoots our cart from 100 yards with the dynamite arrows as we went into Blackwater saw the dot appear on map couple seconds later, boom !Game over.

Its sad that R* still refuses to add free aim lobbies.  Or as the old fellas called it "Hardcore' lobbies.  Hell, even private lobbies.

 

A full pose or even a half posse of A holes, with a max amount of explosive ammo and dynamite arrows is just a sh*t show waiting to happen.  It also forces other high rank players to use explosive ammo and arrows back.    The low levels just get wrecked.  Auto aim,  Explosives Arrows and nd PIB just to make it even faster.  

 

PVP game modes are also a complete mess.  Theres no pvp communities, no one really cares.     Same thing would happen if the next GTA O had public only random races (no choices no private lobbies, no option) racing would be a joke.  There would be no racing community.

I still weep at night and wake from sweaty nightmares knowing we will most likely never have hardcore gang shootouts grab the bag and FFA in this installement 😫

 

The future of R* titles doesn't look bright for long time followers and those living in nostalgia as everything becomes more... casual (aim?)

This game is soooo boring in freemode, ghost towns everywhere, I have not made single friendship yet 😢

It might be nice to be able to see if an area is heavily populated. Like maybe a circle that get less transparent the more people in the area. I like not knowing exactly where everyone is but it would be good to have a general idea of what you might be getting into going into town

Indeed, very sad. I remember all the PVP clan wars from RDR multiplayer. Such a huge community of people competing. Current state is so sad and hopeless, all i can say.

Grab the bag, Hold your own, FFA. Jesus Christ how fun were those modes. I still play on PS3 sometimes and still can't get enough of them.

No and if they had any sense they would change the blips in GTAO to be like RDO as well. People actually congregate in towns and cities and the wilderness is barren. I can go an entire session without seeing a single soul and I love it. I can spend two or three hours hunting and know I will come across no-one and if I do its someone likely hunting as well instead of some frothing at the mouth sh*t-stained idiot looking to kill me so his penis grows bigger.

 

The further I am away from the towns the less I am likely to see people.

No. If you come across a stranger in need, other players try to kill the stranger to spoil your mission. Even in defensive mode, griefers try to kill you. I shove them the double barrel in their face. 

 

It happens more often lately. The GPS map is a perfect griefing tool.

I wish I could truly post my thoughts about the fools that spoil GTAO and RDO but I would be Moderated for being highly offensive so I will just say, the mental capacity of people can be seen easily when people try to shoot you and Lasso you when you are plainly in Defensive mode/Passive Mode.

 

If R* really wanted to stop griefing they would add actual punishments to people that kill unprovoked. Like paying hospital bills in GTAO with the bill doubling for every kill within a certain time frame. Or giving the attacked player the ability to force the attacker into Passive Mode for a set time.

Yes, I've given up on Rockstar in that regard. As far as I'm concerned, they're actually worse than the griefers they have created and continue to allow.

 

The only way for me to avoid them is to glitch which I do 95% of the time when I play (which is much less now any way). The people that I came to the game with (and, unfortunately, talked into buying the game) have gone. They didn't want to be a part of the idiocy Rockstar allows.

 

I also suggested in feedback about a month or two after release that the punishments should be much steeper but we see what good that did.

I know its become a joke at this point and people accuse you of being paranoid but its obvious that R* encourages people to grief by working against them from the shadows. They can go all the way back and modify Passive Mode that has been in the game since release day and yet they can't fix the Titan glitch?

They can implement hot fixes within the week for Inside Track betting and yet cant fix the Orbital Cannon for free glitch? They do the bare minimum to keep people happy.

I don't like glitching but the "Test NAT" method is the only reason I am still playing the game.

I think something like the Parlay mode from RDO would work. If someone kills three times then the killed player/s can choose to force the killer into Passive Mode which would force them out of their Weaponised Vehicles.
