Things in games that annoy you

Guys, I noticed a lot of people just posting things they dislike. I would suggest posting the why and not just the disliked feature. We don't need another thread of lists with no explanations. It doesn't make for any decent discussion.

I dislike pay-to-win

Why? Because it usually infringes on the gameplay in detrimental ways. Shark Cards are an example. The economy is insanely inflated because they need to stretch out time to win to lead people in the sales funnel of buying Shark Cards.

Cryptocurrency/blockchain/NFTs. :die:

We've got enough predatory monetisation in games as is, without adding another form that strips away any remaining pretence, and just has people gamble over speculative nothings - often to drive up the value of the underlying cryptocurrency for people who gamble on that, and also with a disastrous amount of wasted energy and excess emissions. And all to do things in games (like uniquely-tracked items, or limited-edition items, or being able to cash out real money from the game) that have been possible without 'the immutable and eternal blockchain' - for decades, even!

The whole thing is a 'solution' looking for a problem, and only causing a bunch more problems in the process. F***ing shoot the lot of it into the sun.

Crafting being used as a lazy solution to making the world feel interactive.

Ubisoft games and Sony 1st party games are incredibly guilty of this. RDR2 is guilty of it a little but for the most part does something a bit more interesting with it.

But basically, they litter the map with resources for you to scavenge as in their eyes this makes the world feel more interactive, you can pick things up and turn it into stuff. But crafting has become such a repetitive mechanic in games now, so many games are just straight up copy and pasting the same crafting mechanics and plomping them down in their games.

Lot of games, including RDR2 going by the old legit leaks, chased Skyrim levels of interactivity but always completely missed the point. Skyrim (and Fallout) litter the world with stuff you can pick up, use, sell, read, put down, etc. It makes you want to search shelves and what not because there's always stuff to sift through, as if you're actually raiding a tomb or scavenging.

Compare this to games (which I love) like Horizon or Ghost of Tshushima, Far Cry or modern Assassins Creed games w/ their upgrading mechanics. It's just sh*t you pick up as you travel, often with no substance as you can pick it up w/o animation in some games, or it's stuff you collect from enemy camps once you clear them out. You're not scavenging for supplies or sifting for treasure,  you're just spamming buttons around plants to make a number in your crafting resources go up or you're clearing map markers.

@Jason I agree with you, some developers make it a little too easy to make the game feel interactive. And I think it's going to get worse in the future. More and more developers are switching to open world, but many just can't do it. Some worlds are just "dead", and boring for the player.

I don't like that many games are artificially drawn out so that you feel forced to use real money to save time. That makes it pointless for people who don't have that much time and don't want to spend money on in-game purchases to play those games. And with games that have a new sequel every year and lose everything from the previous game, it makes me want to vomit. It's a scandal. But there seem to be a lot of buyers who don't have a problem with that.

Enemies spawning right next to the player, endless respawns until a certain action is done. Unkillable enemies like in Resident Evil. Invisible walls. A game where it feels there are only 5 voice actors that speak almost all npc's dialogue.

This. Mark enemies, destroys the graphics and the immersion imo.

"Detective modes" in general are boring as hell now. I think the Batman Arkham games really ignited their popularity, but it's hard to think of an open world game that doesn't have some sort of "detective mode" now. Either it'll be some sort of alternative view that'll highlight enemies and things you can loot, or it'll be a scan thing that pulsates out from the player. Horizon, RDR2, Assassin's Creed and many many many more. There's a lesser version devs have been using as well where they make stuff sparkle or have a light beam in order to signify you can pick it up.

Once again I find my self going back to Skyrim and Fallout 4, which had none of this stuff and yet no one had any issues with how it all worked in that game. I swear, considering how many devs cite Skyrim has an inspiration for their open world game they sure learn all the wrong things from it.

Genshin impact,I dislike their pricing. I don't mind buying/paying for stuff with irl money but $30 for 10 wishes is too steep and in those "10 wishes" you mostly get useless low level weapons and maybe 1 descent/or maybe a character. I stopped playing it cause the leveling up is just too great/overwhelming when you keep getting new interesting characters. It's too bad I really liked that game and the storyline.

Five word sentences aren't valuable posts. If in doubt, quality over quantity.

Not being able to quicksave when you have a lot of complicated sequences which forces you to start all over again.

Stealth.

Seriously, stealth is up there with crafting with some of the laziest sh*t in games (especially open world ones) right now.

Crouch to stealth, using bushes and tall grass to hide, brain dead enemy AI who can't see past their nose and, my ultimate stealth pet peeve, THROW ROCKS TO DISTRACT. Sony is extremely bad for this garbage design right now, it's so lazy and sh*tty and worst of all these games always think hey you know what will be fun in a game with optional (sh*tty) stealth? A mandatory stealth mission!

Stealth just needs throwing out of these games unless they're going to actually be serious about it, it's always mechanically limited and boring compared to the games combat system and the options the game gives you there.

When you don't have any in-game mean to know which collectibles you still have to find, because you oftenly end up looking back in many locations you already visited especially if you had some crashes.

For example if you have drug packages or gang tags to collect it would be cool to have gang hideouts to raid with an interactive, updated map like the lists of vehicles to collect with the names that get crossed out when you brought the vehicle.

Paper Mario

backtracking to accomplish some puzzles in case you wanna do 100%

in certain games, like death's door which i loved, i absolutely hate how you enter a new area, and see puzzles you simply cannot do yet. you just have to assume "ah, i guess it's for later then" which is usually always the case. then when you got new tools or abilities, you return to the earlier levels to complete some lame ass puzzles that aren't even hard. it's just annoying

make it so you unlock a whole new area in which all these new tools and abilities need to be used.

Awful animations and controls and sh*tty sound design annoy me the most.

I never really cared much about graphics. But the animations and sound design really affect my immersion and gameplay satisfaction.

Have you played MW2019 or Warzone? Lots of noob teammates there. They had a messed up SBMM.

Nope, not yet. I don't play COD games that much so yeah, I haven't played them. Does the game have a ranking feature like Apex?

No ranking. Which sure sucks since you can't even choose to either play ranked games or casual since it's always ranked without people knowing their rank.
