Things in games that annoy you

Poorly done remakes that are basically just a cash grab. The somewhat recent Mafia: Definitive Edition is the perfect example. On its own it's not a terrible game necessarily but the original is way more immersive even to this day. The remake trimmed down the original so that children don't get bored driving from A to B (which was part of the immersion in the first game, i.e. it felt like doing actual work) and whilst they went for a more realistic approach to storytelling I didn't like the characters as much as I did in the original. I think all remakes should be 1:1 or developers should just remaster games with better graphics and improved gameplay mechanics as opposed to a complete overhaul of the game.

I’m actually playing Uncharted 4 at the moment which is where I got the idea from. The first mission in the school made me think of the Tomb Raider games making you play as young Lara. I’m fine with it in Last Of Us 2 since it’s basically the premise of the story.

When a part of the map/ level has a place that you can get to with enough skill but the game itself decides to either kill you or place an invisible barrier to prevent you from getting there.

Tracking missions.

Having played RDR2's online for a while, I've grown tired of these. The things are everywhere in that game and they're quite laborious. I played Days Gone after playing RDR2 and dreaded each moment one of those types of missions popped up. I didn't mind them in Condemned: Criminal Origins, considering you're a detective and you're using some cool gadgets. What also really helped in Condemned is that several things you found out about were actually interesting. In most games though, these missions are the pits.

This.

Pointless, lifeless and meaningless environments.

Also, what bores the sh*t out of me are first-person shooters, or sci-fi games with endless and seemingly pointless corridors and rooms. I think Halo is guilty of this. OK, they might get away with explaining in some games that it's ancient alien technology and the rooms and what inhabits them are meaningless to humans/the player but I'd like to see more purpose for the environments; more meaning to them, more thought gone into the design in more utilitarian sense and not just a fancy backdrop. Perhaps more interactivity. More purpose.

I know someone can give me some rebuttal on this and say "well, it's because of X, Y, Z." Still, that doesn't really satisfy. Sometimes I think I'm just being horded through these corridors only to meet enemies. The enemies don't seem to do anything there. They just hang in packs in spaces that looks like some post-modern art interior designed spaces that appear to do nothing but exist.

In the german steam version of BF2042, even the achviements are "gendered", i hate the german gendered language, it cripples our language and makes it sound ugly. You english speaking ppl at least don't have such problems. I installed the game in english, but my achievemnts are in german because my Steam is in german and seeing "Fußsoldat:in" translated Footsoldier makes me angry. Games are getting too woke/diverse etc. these days. It's not fun anymore.

Red Dead Redemption was easy to 100% for me because the collectibles make sense and the resulting outfit has good utility on it.

Also, I've almost 100% Horizon: Zero Dawn. Most of the required collectibles are rewarding to collect, whereas the other collectibles simply add to the lore.

I've never 100% a GTA game. I just don't like coming after collectibles, unless we're talking about GTA SA's gang tags and oysters.

Games that have a dark premise like a dictatorship or famine or a post apocalypse with gritty characters to back it up but somehow end up with a dissonant presentation that has like a Fortnite-esque hodge podge of neon and bright colors and characters that talk in YA novel-tier quirky dialogue.

I really hate that sh*t tbh. The only game that can do it right is Sunset Overdrive.

Forced and unskippable gameplay segments, e.g. conversations with locked cameras, cutscenes, tutorials, etc.

Some games with these.

Unskippable cut scenes, unpausable cut scenes, being timed, unskippable credits.

Fifa - Most online matches aren’t about skill, but about being a bitch. What makes it even worse is that it makes me act the same way.

If you're not sure where to install the game, then it's always a good idea to download an apk file from a reputable source. This way, you can easily install the game without having to go through the hassle of installing it manually.

I hate Trackmania United's stupid music system. Every time you get a medal, the song stops and then either replays or goes to the next one depending on whether the enviroment has one or more songs. What were the devs thinking? Sunrise Extreme and Nations ESWC didn't have this problem, why would they change how it works for the worse? Said system at least made sense in Original where the music looped nicely and also had music for replays, getting medals and editing tracks, all of which don't exist in United among many other things.

Microtransactions, paywall

Actual real life politics, movements in games that are not benefiting from this.

And collectibles without map, this is just worst thing can somebody imagine for perfectionist...

When a game pretty much railroads you into a certain way of playing or makes it stupidly difficult if you don't play it the way the developers intended you to.

That was one of the reasons Red Dead Redemption II was a bit of a downer for me. Beautiful and fantastic game but it had a habit of trying to force me to play "their way" and not the way I wanted to play. If I want to use my rifle for this battle or go around a building to catch my breath and try to flank the bad guys I should not be punished for doing so. The same goes with certain Action RPG games where they give me options to do something different but the enemy AI and the way the dungeon / map is set up almost demands that I have to play a certain way in order to beat them.

The price of them. Why are the so expensive?

I feel the opposite. Gaming seems pretty affordable nowadays. I don't follow it too closely so feel free to fact check me here, but isn't the standard rate for new game from a AA or AAA studio like $60 still? Games cost that same amount on the Genesis and SNES in the 90s. And with indie studios pumping out quality at a fraction of the price, there's no shortage of great games to discover on a budget. I'm sure PC players here with Steam accounts could vouch for the sheer volume of affordable games from that platform alone.

The most accessible route into cheap gaming is simply patience. All this sh*t gets their price cut in half in short amount of time (apparently not from Nintendo, from what I hear). I found myself just coasting with a last gen console for a few extra years and work through a backlog of good games. Eventually the newest gen will go on sale during some holiday for -50% and then I snag it.
