Things in games that annoy you

I hate when you're fighting enemies and then your guy aims at some random civilian instead of the guy who's actively trying to kill you.

Harder difficulties = Bullet sponge enemies.

That's not hard, it's just annoying and boring. I actually likes how games like Metro do it where you have no HUD and you deal as much damage as the enemies but it's increased. Games that just put the enemy health up to make it 'harder' is really lazy.

-Unnecessarily drawn out tutorials. I mean I understand for many people it might be their first time playing such a game, but do we really need tutorials for every single button, action etc? Seriously it should be over in a few minutes. Not an hour or more.

-Unskippable cutscenes.....f*ck them.

-Limited save slots. Mafia III was a pretty bad offender if I remember correctly. I wanted to start a new game and keep my old one for collectible hunting, but I had to overwrite to start a new one.

-Stealth games in which you have a perfectly valid disguise only for it to be blown for some random reason and every f*cknut in the immediate vicinity knowing about it.

Followers and companions that fall behind or get lost and a mod  is needed to  spawn them back to you, or followers and companions that watch you get ambushed  and hit by multiple enemy's and they watch you get killed, also  followers that are  to low leveled in skill and need a powerful weapon or highly enchanted  weapon to  work right, I enchant the followers weapons with as many enchantments as possible!..

Owe having to switch from my enchanted weapon to a weak non enchanted weapon in order to  get on a dragons head to kill it!..

In games like rage 2 the characters are so small on screen that they all look alike!..

Ass for Mafia 3 I backed up the game to my external drive that I wanted to continue collecting stuff in, when I wanted to start a new game

NPCs that want you to walk with them at a speed nowhere near like the actual walking speed of your character.  Please make that sh*t a cut-scene and let me skip it.

When you're doing a 'chase' mission and it's so obviously scripted that I catch up to the NPC and can't do anything until they've reached their scripted destination. Just kills the immersion.

Fallout 3/NV in a nutshell. I don't care if anyone mocks me for playing on just medium, the hardest difficulties just make it boring. Couple that with the fact that shooting in these games feels "untactile" so to speak and it's a real crapfest with that. I don't like Fallout 4 much but at least they made shooting in that game feel like it does something.

Yeah. I really wanted to play those games in the higher difficulty until I realized how completely and utterly boring it was. I have a much better memory of New Vegas because I played it just the once all the way through and didn't have an absurd difficulty with bullet sponge.

Non skippable tutorials and cutscenes.  Forced start up logos, you get 3/7 in a row and you can't skip.

Games that prompt you.  For example, press X to turn the light on.   Don't know where you are going?  Cool follow the yellow flashing line.

Areas that looks like you can go there but you can't, so you either break the entire game or get an invisible wall to the face.

I remember when they first revealed Destiny and the guy was like "You can go there" and the game came out and half of the sh*t you see in the game is closed off.

This reminds me of another annoyance. I HATE in games where there's a perfectly scalable object (like a fence) that the protagonist should be able to climb no problem, but the game wont let you because beyond that is an area you're not supposed to go.😕

I think that Borderland's (1) DLC must be the most extreme example of this. Especially if you have maxed out your levels and play without your co-op partner(s). Most of Borderland's DLC is probably a fine example of trash DLC (excluding some good maps and missions). Full of not intended "boss battles" (because bullet sponge enemies) and constant grinding. Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot is the worst and if you want to get certain collectibles in Claptrap's New Robot Revolution the easiest way to get them is to find a hiding place during the actual boss battle and stay there 5-10 hour depending on your luck. Of course you can get them in "normal" way, but it will take a lifetime or you will probably bore yourself to death.

Unlocking weapons/cars in online game modes is pure hell for those of us not willing to play a game 8 hours a day.  On some games you can buy unlocks, wtf?!!

Hundreds of pointless collectables scattered around a map.

Looking at you Ubisoft. At least give people something cool in-game for doing it all than a pointless PS4 trophy.

- Escort missions where the client moves at a snails pace and the enemies waste no time dealing more damage on them than you. Sucks even more when there's a roadblock/ambush not too far ahead and the client just suicides in before you can take them out.

- When the game gives you trash customization options and the better looking stuff is locked behind DLC, paywalls, or special editions.

- Your character can be decked out in full armor and top grade weapons yet an enemy in casual attire can still body you in seconds.

Like Billy Russo said, an excessive number of collectibles, biggest offenders being all Ubisoft games and GTA V.

- Microtransactions

- Killing an NPC and somehow getting wanted for it without no witnesses being nearby, making absolutely no sense whatsoever. (Rockstar loves to have this in their games!)

I'll add more if and when I can think of others to add that haven't been said already.

Multiplayer games that join you in to the losing team when the game is about to end.

Thanks, I guess.

Oh, there's things in games that annoy me, but they just won't come to mind now, so here's what I can think of now:

• Only the player getting blamed for anything. This is a problem in the GTA games. Someone random trying to punch or shoot you near a cop? They don't care. Attempt to fight back? YOU'RE UNDER ARREST FOR SELF DEFENSE.

• Invisible walls. I get it, level designers can't make a whole world, but at least put something transparent there to represent the boundaries, or just make better level design where the player won't smack into them when exploring.

•Overly linear design. It's easier to make and throw stupid scripted events at the player, but if a level is just a glorified corridor, the player can't actually check out the game's world or try things differently.

I said "design" and not "level design" here because this also applies to overly scripted events (as I've seen in recent GTA V videos). Want to do anything outside of the limited path you're intended to follow? Fail! Don't do what the random talkative person following you said? You may fail!

• It's minor, but the endless police in games that have them. Fighting them is fun because they never stop stupidly coming to all get killed, trying the same tactics. (Rhino tank in Vice City FTW!)

However, the fact that they never “run out” of police officers in games like GTA, Skyrim, and Jak II is really immersion-breaking. Shouldn't they all die then need time to recover eventually? Nope, just clones appearing in identical police vehicles every time one blows up, until the player dies for even thinking of challenging the cheating, respawning police.

At first I didn't give a sh*t, but companies are getting more and more sneaky and greedy with them that I'm starting to get annoyed as well. It's actually turned me off Apex Legends a little bit. Only EA can manage to f*ck up the one game that has something good going for it. I don't mind the odd item here and there but in Apex it costs something like £200 to buy everything in the latest event which is insane.

Well this was fixed in the HD era games where in IV, cops arrest other people. In V, they kill them, but at least it's something.

But you still get wanted for self defense however. 😒

Are we playing the same game? On mine's they usually get arrested or shot if they attack you in front of a cop.

Yeah while common in gta 5 it rarely can happen in 4 where gangs shot up compound walking away (if they kill the cops and not the other way around but as soon as I shoot a cops hand a helicopter is instantly dispatched)

Games that require you to play multiple times to get the "true" ending.

giphy.gif

I don't have a problem with this if the game's worth playing and has adequate replay value, but reserving the "true" ending for DLC or sequel baiting providing minimal resolution is a dick move however.

-Single player games requiring a constant internet connection to play them. WHY????

-Overpriced and unnecessary DLC that does nothing to improve the game. Yes I know there's the adage "If you don't like don't buy it", but that's not the point. I actually love buying DLC for games I love, but some of the pricing for items is ridiculous and screams of corporate greed than something that benefits the player. EFLC is still some of the best DLC I've seen.

-Multiplayer updates. I'm someone who plays single player games mostly, but I can't stand it when games force an update that only fixes things for its multiplayer component. While I get this helps the multiplayer side I don't appreciate how big some of them can be when I just want to jump back into my single player game.

(Can't remove emoji on mobile.)

True, they did improve it in GTA IV, but they really need to fix that last problem. I guess it'd be hard to give every single pedestrian their own wanted level since they only exist near the player and they have to ensure the game runs smoothly… That'd be hard if the game had to keep cops going after pedestrians and tracking them. It would beat the cops just coming for the player in most cases, though.
