fartypants
hi mods. did a search for game ai analysis and discussion or something like that and didn't find it, so, with your permission, here goes: I like to speculate about the game ai and if/when it is tweaked in patches and how. Anybody else? I would ask a couple of questions and see if anyone has an opinion. How far down the chain can the decision making reach and in which areas or all? Meaning can the ai detect the individual acct and make decisions about the difficulty of the environment? I kind of think not, but could it be done based on player demographics such as levels, stats, etc? Subsets of the player base? How small? Can it dictate specific responses or just modify the odds of a selection within a menu and under what circumstances? War stories as examples that illustrate speculation would be more than welcome as far as I am concerned. Anybody? Beuller? Buellr?
fartypants
Some interest but nobody wants to speak first. I won't try to keep it going after this unless somebody else has an opinion or something to add. Here is a link to a 2min video I made of an import delivery. It was an empty lobby by the time I got ahold of the car. As a baseline for discussion, the level of traffic and npc attention in this video is what I usually see in an empty lobby. What I always find interesting under these circumstances is how the damage adds up. I almost feel like when you grab the car you roll for resistance and generate a range of damage that you will be charged for if you complete delivery. Ever get the lighthouse car steal, not touch anything, yet be billed for 8 or 9k in bullet dmg from Banshees that catch up to your 811? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8YyJVok6xI Edited August 13, 2019 by fartypants clarity
HamwithCheese
I'm not exactly sure what you're looking for but I can say the ai started receiving noticeable buffs around the Bikers update. NPC drivers don't have faster cars than you, but rather faster accelerating, heavier cars. Maximum torque everywhere, basically an electric vehicle. Npcs are aware of the player at all times and can usually lock onto through walls and such, that's why when you see them, you lock onto them, they're already shooting at you. Luckily for us, they usually fire in short bursts. Npcs usually tighten up their accuracy when you fire at them, and also fire back in retaliation. I honestly think there aren't any special parameters regarding enemy npcs. They shoot first, never ask questions and keep shooting later. It isn't smart, very predictable, yet can very easily you off guard and can take you out in milliseconds. fartypants

Your (and whoever else cares to) perspective of the npcs (and ai in general) and how they are (or might be?) triggered and the limits of their actions. One thing I'm maybe not giving enough consideration to is that they achieve lock through cover/concealment and therefore usually achieve first damage. That could be useful. And I just like talking about this stuff. I like to read folks' observations on this stuff. Thanks for posting. HamwithCheese
Yeah I never really gave it too much thought until I moved onto current gen, I noticed I was getting put down a lot more often. I then noticed their spawn points getting much tighter after Bikers, they now spawn pretty much where you arent looking. One thing I can't really figure out is why only the SMG and the Assault Rifle have this burst mode, but the lmgs don't. I guess it would demolish players instantly. fartypants

This is the stuff that I love to bitch and moan about and admire at the same time. They want me to buy a shark card and I resist. They make the grind and then we figure it out maybe better than they intended and then they get to try to walk it back a bit, but if they go too far, it just ain't fun and they kill the goose. This is the most financially successful work of art in recorded human history. The whole process fascinates me in addition to loving the game itself. Or maybe I'm making rocket science out of mac n cheese. HamwithCheese and Coffee Grinder
