Mission 3: Skim the Skimmer

Salvatore enters Monte Polizzo through the front entrance. Al the receptionist is there to greet him.

Al: Welcome, sir. What can I get you? I strongly  recommend your try our steak. And our vino rosso, the best in the whole town. And how about a-

Salvatore: Hey, hey, hey! I'm here to see Vito.

Al: Signore Leone? He's right that way, sir.

Al points Sal towards Vittorio, who's having lunch with with one of the family capos, Sally Durando.

Salvatore: Hey, Uncle.

Vittorio: Salvatore. Sit down. you remember Sally?

Salvatore: Yeah. How you been?

Sally: Fine. You want anything?

Salvatore; Nah, I'm good. So what's the deal?

Vittorio: Sally needs you to do something for him.

Salvatore: Can't he use one of his own guys?

Sally: I need someone unrelated for this one.

Salvatore: Okay. What is it?

Sally: I think one of the guys we collect from is skimming off the top.

Salvatore: How much?

Sally: Five bucks. It may seem small but that sh*t adds up over time. I know that best.

Salvatore: So you know this guy does it?

Sally: Ain't been able to catch him yet but we just know. Besides, we can't have disrespectful punks like that running around in our business. Know what I'm saying?

Salvatore: Well, I'm gonna need something better than that. I can't whack someone just cause he hurt you in the balls. I'm sorry.

Sally: Excuse me?

Salvatore: You heard what I said.

Vittorio: [yelling] Salvatore. That is no way to speak to a man of honour. Apologise immediately.

Salvatore: I'm sorry.

Sally: No, it's fine. Really.

Vittorio: And don't question orders either. He's a higher up. Go do what he asked you.

Sally: His name is Guy Becker. He lives in an apartment up Saint Mark's Avenue. Don't make too much noise.

Salvatore: Alright, I'll do it.

Sally: When it's done, meet me at my place. [Salvatore leaves]

Vittorio: I'm really sorry.

Sally: No. I totally understand. He's just young.

Make your way to Saint Mark's Avenue. Guy's apartment is just below what would be Saint Mark's Bistro. Find Guy's apartment by looking at the postboxes. He lives on apartment five, which is on the second floor. When you get there, Sal knocks on the door and Guy opens it.

Salvatore: Guy Becker?

Guy: Yeah?

Salvatore: Mr. Durando sends his regards.

Sal takes out his pistol and shoots him. Now get back to your car. You'll have a two-star wanted level. Collect cop bribes or go to the nearest body shop to get rid of it. After that, you have to go to Sally's betting place in the Red Light District. A cutscene begins where Sal goes inside and goes to Sally.

Salvatore: Hey, Sally. It's done.

Sally: Good. [Salvatore starts walking away.] Hey Sal?

Salvatore: Yeah?

Sally: I didn't want to say this in front of your uncle but you disrespect me like that again, you're gonna wake up with your body five feet away from your head. You understand?

Mission 4: Incoming Shipment

Salvatore enters Monte Polizzo to be greeted by Al the receptionist again.

Al: Mister Leone Junior, welcome. You here for food or business like usual?

Salvatore: Hey, Al. You know, I'd love to have a cup of coffee but my uncle doesn't like to be kept waiting.

Al: Understood, Mister Leone. He's in the office. If you ever get time, come here and try the bistecca fiorentina. You will love it, I promise you.

Salvatore: I'll be sure to, Al. Ciao.

Salvatore goes to the back of the store and enters the manager's office to find Uncle with a cigarette in hand and fumbling over a few papers which he hides as soon as he notices Sal.

Vittorio: Madonna. Knock before you enter, would you?

Salvatore: Good afternoon, Uncle. What was that?

Vittorio: Nothing. Don't worry about it.

Salvatore: You hiding something?

Vittorio: [rising tone] I said don't worry. Come, sit down. [the phone rings and he picks up] Ciao... Yes... Alright... When?... I got it. I'll talk to you later. Buona giornata. [he puts the phone down] Sal, I got a job for you.

Salvatore: What were those-

Vittorio: I need you to head over to the ferry station in Newport. Inside the parking lot near the station, you will find a blue Remington facing the river. It's unlocked. Take it, bring it to the docks and give it to Ignazio, a capisce?

Salvatore: Yeah, I got it. Is there anything else? [Vittorio stares back at him. There is a brief awkward pause.]

Vittorio: Like what? Are you expecting something?

Salvatore: What was in those papers?

Vittorio: Madonna mia. What am I gonna do with this kid? How many times have I told you not to ask too many questions?

Salvatore: Well, I-

Vittorio: Keep quiet. Just go and do what I told you. [he waves at the door like he's shooing him off]

Salvatore disgruntledly leaves the restaurant and makes his way to the Newport ferry station. He spots the blue Remington in the described location. Somehow, he senses that something is off but still gets in the car and takes it to the docks, where Ignazio Dante is waiting for him. He approaches the loading platform on the southern edge of the docks with the car and sticks his hand out the window to greet Ignazio.

Ignazio: Salvatore! It is you. Hey, I ain't seen you in a long time. How're you doing?

Salvatore: Trying to do good, Ignazio. How's Angelina?

Ignazio: A pain in the ass. She wants five goddamn kids. I don't know if I even want one.

Salvatore: Be careful. My uncle would give you a five hour lecture for dishonoring our traditions if he heard you say that. [both laugh]

Ignazio: Yeah, that's Vito, alright. Same old.

Salvatore leaves the car so Ignazio can prepare it for loading.

Ignazio: It's good to see you, Sal.

Salvatore: You too. Are the Joes inside? Think I'll go and say hello.

Ignazio: Tough luck. You just missed 'em.

Salvatore: Ah. Hey, before I go, I wanna ask you something. You think you might have a few jobs for me, or something?

Ignazio: What's the matter? Uncle not paying well enough?

Salvatore: Well-

Ignazio: Nah, I get it. Look, me and him got our differences. You know I mean no disrespect but he's not great at resource management, know what I mean?

Salvatore: Trust me, no one knows that better than me. So you got work for me or what?

Ignazio: Sorry to disappoint, Sal. I got nothing up right now but when I do, I'll let you know.

Salvatore: Alright, thanks. Take it easy.

The next mission will be at Salvatore's residence, and represented on the map with a house blip, similar to Momma Lopez' icon in TBoGT.

Mission 5: Won't Eat You

Salvatore has changed out of his suit into a casual outfit. He's walking to his kitchen when his house phone rings. He picks it up, it's Vittorio.

Vittorio: Salvatore. Ciao. How're you doing?

Salvatore: I'm good, Uncle V. How's the family?

Vittorio: Mariana is good. She sends you her love. Clear your schedule because we want you to have dinner with us tonight.

Salvatore: Yeah, sure. Listen, how are dealing with that problem? You spoke to people yet?

Vittorio: Don't put your mind to it. Just wear something nice tonight, okay? Ciao.

Salvatore forgets about the kitchen and goes outside to check his mail. Outside, he comes across his neighbour, Teresa.

Teresa: Heyyy, Salvatore. Where the hell you been? I ain't been seeing you around the restaurant lately.

Salvatore: I got busy at work. sh*t happens, as usual.

Teresa: Oh, don't I know it. I heard all about that sh*t the Staunton Islanders are putting on. Say, my shift starts now. Why don't you come with me and have something to eat? I'll give you a discount on your favourite, Osso Buco alla Milanese.

Salvatore: Sure. Thank you very much. Let's go.

The cutscene ends, and Salvatore walks to the Siciliano Restaurant with Teresa. It's where Ma Cipriani's restaurant is in LCS.

Salvatore: How's life, Teresa?

Teresa: f*cking insane. I broke up with this guy, Anton.

Salvatore: Why?

Teresa: The guy's a total jackass. His brain is all wormy.

Salvatore: And what about that other guy, the uuuh... What was his name?

Teresa: His heart wasn't big enough. His dick was bigger. But a real man would have both, it ain't true love if he don't.

Salvatore: Whatever you say.

Teresa: How about you? Got any sticchias you want to tell me about?

Salvatore: Not really. Things are pretty messy at work. I ain't got the time.

Teresa: What are youse doing about that? You gonna give Staunton its sh*t back?

Salvatore: I don't know. That matter is above my authority. I just gotta sit by and trust the process.

Teresa: That don't sound the way a real man handles things.

Salvatore: I said the same thing.

Teresa: Buncha wusses. Why don't you be the don? You'd be a lot better at it.

Salvatore: Not a bad idea. Something tells me that's not gonna possible for twenty or thirty years though.

Teresa: You're gonna need a woman on your side. I could hook something up.

Salvatore: Thanks but I don't need it, not right now. I'll let you know if it changes.

Teresa: Whoever you get, is gonna need a good heart.

Salvatore: Makes sense.

Teresa: And big balls. Things ain't going nowhere without 'em.

Salvatore: Okay...

Teresa and Salvatore walk into the restaurant. Sal takes a seat while Teresa goes to the counter. Before she can enter the worker's quarters, she gets interrupted by her boss, Mr. Gennaro.

Mr. Gennaro: Teresa, am I glad to see you.

Teresa: What's going on?

Mr. Gennaro: That dipsh*t Joe broke the pressure cooker.

Teresa: I told you you shouldn't have hired a non-Italian.

Mr. Gennaro: Yeah, well, I fired his ass. Now that we're one man short, everyone's working extra hard to keep up, which means, you need to get to work immediately.

Teresa: Yeah, yeah. I got it.

Teresa heads into the kitchen. Salvatore enjoys a cigarette. After a while, she arrives with his meal.

Salvatore: Thank you. It looks delicious. Belissimo.

Teresa: You're welcome. Bon appetito. [she sits down] Old fart Gennaro. What did he think was gonna happen, hiring a stranger.

Salvatore: Yeah, we got a thing about that for a reason.

Teresa: Yeah. I mean, Joe wasn't all bad. His brain was good for something but it wasn't cooking.

Salvatore: [Salvatore stares confusedly] Whatever you say.

Teresa: It's okay though. I know how to know for sure.

Salvatore: Right.

Teresa: Well, I gotta go now. There's work to do.

When Salvatore finishes his meal, Teresa sees him off.

Teresa: Hope you enjoyed it, Sal.

Salvatore: How could I not?

Teresa: By the way, you read the news?

Salvatore: No. What news?

Teresa: Something that'll make travel in this city easier. Let me show you.

Teresa goes to the vending machine in front of the restaurant, and buys Sal a newspaper. Instructions on how to use a newspaper vendor appears at the top right. Teresa shows Sal the newspaper and points at the headline.

Teresa: See that? We ain't gonna have to deal with those sh*tty ferries much longer. [Sal takes the newspaper and reads it] I'm getting back to work. Take care, Sal. Ciao

Well, they are set in the same time frame. The songs I gathered for the radio are what was good throughout the 50's, same as Mafia II does. You can find some of them in L.A. Noire, as well.

The first mission was rewritten by @Francesco Bonomo, who has my sincere thanks. Also, due to some reconsideration, I've dropped Mike Toreno to be replaced by a different character. Stay tuned to find out who it is.

Mission #6: Price Increase

Salvatore enters Monte Polizzo again, to find the tables totally empty save for one occupied by two men in overbearing raincoats, reading newspapers. One of them briefly takes his eyes off it to give an unfriendly look to Sal, which he returns. Al the Receptionist jumps the gun again and greets Salvatore before anything can take place.

Al: [in Italian] Hey, Giacomo. Nice of you to visit. Let's talk outside, huh?

Al insistently brings Salvatore just out the front door.

Sal: What the hell is going on, Al?

Al: No idea. But the cops have been snooping around the place. There's probably uuh got a reason, you know?

Sal: Yeah, I know.

Al: Your uncle said he'll handle it. By the way, he's in the docks if you're looking for him.

Sal: The docks? What's he doing there?

Al holds out his hands and tilts his head.

Sal: Alright. Thanks, Al. Hey, keep an eye on your manager, alright? He shouldn't talk too much.

The cutscene ends with Sal walking away and Al walking inside. The next destination is the docks, down in Atlantic Quays. When Sal arrives, he walks into the establishment through the front gate. He passes by several stevedores working, lugging things around, smoking and yelling at each other, as well as crew members of recent arrivals taking in what little rest they can get, the unhappy ferry workers, and a few suits sizing everyone down. Sal doesn't know where Uncle is, so he goes to Ignazio's cabin to ask him. The cabin is empty, but Ignazio's errand boys Big and Small Joe quickly show up.

Big Joe: Hey, Sal.

Sal: Hey, kids. How you doing? Seen my uncle around?

Big Joe: Yeah, he was heading to Pier 1 last I saw him. Said he was gonna meet someone.

Sal: Alright. And where's Ignazio?

Big Joe: He went to La Monte for a bite. His blood sugar was low again.

Sal: Yeah, well, he should be back soon. Things are really moving here today. Uncle won't find it different from slacking off.

Big Joe: Hey, he'll be back. There's no problem.

Sal: I hope so.

Sal leaves the cabin and heads for Pier 1. He spots Uncle in the far end of the pier. There are a few dock workers with him. They're standing by a docked ship with many departing travellers coming out of it. One of them, a woman, greets them. She and uncle kiss each other's cheeks and she shakes hands with the other welcomers. They help her carry her bags and walk her back to the depots. Uncle leaves them and joins Sal upon spotting him.

Sal: Hey, Uncle.

Uncle: Salvatore. How you doing?

Sal: Alright. Who's our guest?

Uncle: Oh, Miss Hopper? You haven't met her, haven't you? I'll introduce you some other time. We got business.

Sal: Don't we always?

Uncle relays Sal's next job to him as they walk back to the front gate.

Uncle: I presume you're aware of the situation in Monte Polizzo.

Sal: Yeah, I just came from there. You're handling it, right?

Uncle: Oh, of course.

Sal: So who do you think it is?

Uncle: It's not for  you to worry about, Salvatore.

Sal: Those f*cks were eyeing me on my way in. I would've gotten pinched just to beat their brains out if Al wasn't there. I'd say that makes it my business.

Uncle: [He chuckles as they arrive at the curb.] You have a very important job, Salvatore. Mr. Lynch needs someone taken out.

Sal: Doesn't he have his own lackeys for that?

Uncle: This one concerns us too and you're the only one I can entrust. There's a journalist up in Harwood who thinks he knows more than he ought to about the union's operations. And I don't think he's getting close to realizing it at all. [Uncle circles his point fingers] His name is Adam Timbers. His place is on 2nd Street, red apartment building. Find out who put him up to it then get rid of him. Alright?

Uncle gives Sal a slap on the wrist and quickly leaves him to get back to his office.

Salvatore is now tasked with driving to Harwood and capturing Timbers. The carpark nearby has many vehicles to choose from if his own is not present. One of the dock workers is also reading a newspaper when his boss shouts at him to get back to work, prompting him to leave the newspaper on top of a trashcan, which Salvatore can pick up and read.

News headline reads: BODY RECENTLY FOUND IN HEPBURN PARK LINKED TO CRIMINAL ORGANIZATION. SHOULD BUSINESSES BE MORE CAREFUL ABOUT WHERE THEY GET THEIR IMPORTS?

Along 2nd street, Timbers' residence is the red apartment building that's facing north towards where there's a gas station in GTA III. Sal checks the buzzers at the main gate and sees that Timbers stays at apartment number four on the second floor. He steps into the building. But just as he's about to go up the stairs, he hears a loud thud behind him. It's Timbers. The crazy f*cker must've seen Sal approaching and thrown himself out of the window. Surprisingly healthy enough to get up and run despite his recent injuries, Timbers gets on the move. Sal runs out of the building, and spots him jack someone in broad daylight. He can't say he's not at least a little impressed. He gets back into his own ride and tails him.

Timbers doesn't f*ck around. He takes him straight into Hepburn Park, swerving like crazy and going off-road several times, almost hitting a food vendor one time, before deciding to head into the Hepburn Dayside Development construction site. He drives right through a few foundation frameworks and catches the attention of some highly angered construction works. Sal follows after him, murmuring to himself about what a crazy f*ck he's come across. He drives up to and around around Saint Marks before understeering near the Bistro and failing to turn the corner. At which point he's forced to stop just so he doesn't fly off the hillside. He gets out the car starts running down the hill as his last resort.

Sal uses this opening to tackle the guy and throw his face into the grass. He takes out his handgun and sticks it to the back of his head.

Sal: I'd stop right now, you crazy piece of sh*t.

Timbers: f*ck, f*ck! You got me. [Sal takes him up by the collar]

Sal: [Sal takes him up by the collar] f*ck you! [Sal throws him back down and picks him back up again.] You outta your f*cking mind or what? You're lucky I need you alive. Keep f*cking walking.

The cutscene stops. Now Sal is tasked with keeping Timbers feeling threatened and scared enough to follow his orders and walk towards the beach.

Timbers: It wasn't my idea, alright?! It wasn't-

Sal: I don't give a f*ck if it was the president gave you the order. Keep walking.

Timbers: They won't leave me alone, man. What am I-

Sal: Shut the f*ck up. You'll have your time to speak.

They keep padding on the grass with a gun against Timbers until they reach the coastline. Sal finally throws timbers who lands on his hands, covered in sand.

Sal: Now. What clever f*ck had you handle his sh*t from right out his ass?

Timbers: I tell you and I die anyway.

Sal: That's the idea, genius. At least he'll get his comeuppance.

Timbers: I only write words man. It's not my mouth they come out of!

Sal: Like I said, I don't give a flying f*ck. Ain't even the goddamn question. [He hits him in the face with his gun before handling his collar again.] Look at me. Listen to me. Do you want this bullet going into your head or your leg next?

Timbers: Hahaha. I was in the Bulge. You can't do sh*t to me.

Sal: Oh, yeah? We'll see about that.

Salvatore shoots him in the knee. He then lights up a cigar, watching the birds as he fills up his lungs while Timbers begins groaning in pain.

Sal: Well?

Timbers: You're f*cking kidding me, right?

Sal: Do I look like a jester?

Timbers: Now that I th... What the fuhhh's with your hair? Cough

Salvatore: [Sal brings the gun up to his face] Do you need speech therapy?

Timbers: Who the f*ck could it be?

Sal: There's a lot of people who'd want fingers pointed at Mr. Lynch..

Timbers: Yeah, a whole damn conspiracy. Your Uncle too [He nervously chuckles.]

Sal: I'm not a very patient f*cking man, Timbers. You're pushing things as it is. Do I need to take the words out your tongue myself?

Timbers: f*ck it. [He collapses from his lying down head raised-up position.] Al Rico f*cker, I'm holding his seat... in hell.

Timbers groans a final time before death. Sal walks up to him and places two more rounds in his head and chest before taking his time to push the body into the water. The cutscene ends with him carefully evading the police through an isolated section of the port's fencewall, jumping over it.

At home, you'll receive a letter from Sal's mother, Liviana.

Spoiler

Dear Salvatore

Hello, son. I hope you're doing good. Miceli and Teodorico sent their best. Things have been looking up for us. The textile business has been getting a lot of customers recently. Miceli just upgraded his office. How have you been? Vito told me you've been working very hard. I'm happy for you, but just as concerned. I know I haven't seen you in person in fifteen years but I'm still your mother. Don't follow him around too much, Salvatore. He's a good man but he likes to make blood when it's not necessary. He doesn't tell me a lot about your work, naturally. I know you're doing vile things. It's unavoidable in your line of work but If you can avoid that messy side of your work, please do it whenever you can. If you can find the good, fun side, do that instead. Enjoy yourself. Vito has always thought he's impenetrable, but he has no idea. Even if you make it to the next century, there will always be someone luckier than you. Never forget that. Stay out of trouble as much as you can.

Sincerely

Your mother

You can choose to respond positively or negatively. However, both options will result in the same reply.

Spoiler

Dear Mother

It's ecstatic to hear from you. You don't have to explain yourself. I know you write to me because you care. I know what you mean about Uncle. He's a real difficult man sometimes. But you know I got to what I got to do. Don't worry about me. Just look after yourself and focus on your textile business. I can assure you that nothing will happen to me. I wish I could come back and visit you but it'd be too costly - besides I don't think I could handle seeing what's become of our town anyway. Tell Teodorico and Miceli I said hi.

Afterwards, you'll receive a call from Vittorio. Vittorio compliments Sal's performance on the last job and asks him to come to Atlantic Quays for the next one. Salvatore asks for a little break to cool off, reasoning that the last job was too heaty to move right from into another one. Vittorio is reluctant but Salvatore manages to convince him. Then he calls Massimo to tell him he's thought about what he said, and he wants in. Massimo is very pleased and asks Salvatore to bring a car he ordered from Atlantic Quays to a racer meet in Harwood.

You may go to Atlantic Quays and get the car whenever you wish to begin the next mission.

Giving this a bump. More people should be going through this concept. Hope to see more soon.

I'm just making this post to let everybody know that this concept has finally been updated. A big reason I kept away from it for so long was due to feeling dissatisfied with the first few missions so I've rewritten them. I'm taking the concept to a brand new direction than I originally intended. My first intention was to write a simple game with few characters similar to LCS but now I want to make it much more complex and detailed. Anyway, the character list has been updated (still WIP) and you can see the new missions here:

Another update. Mission 4 and 5 have also been updated. Next up is mission 6, which will conclude the rewriting of missions, after that I can finally make posts with new missions. Also, I'll make some updates to the radio stations and the newspaper system as well so stay tuned for those. Sorry about the double post.

So, is the map going to be updated? BTW I really like the effort you've made so far.

Thanks a lot, man. Yes, it is. I'm going at it piece by piece. Right now, all of my concentration is on the Portland stage. When it's time to move to Staunton, I'll update it.

I can see concepts like this becoming very popular soon enough.

Wise words above. You've put a lot of work into this and it shows. With the Definitive Edition around the corner, I hope you're braced for all the attention you're about to receive. ;)

That might almost make it worth the disappointment, lol.

Thanks!

I'm reserving judgement for the moment. We'll see what happens.

It makes me want to ask though. You've done a great job here recreating Liberty City in 1959. Would you ever take Vice City back to the 1950s/1960s, or Los Santos back to the 40s?

There are less connections to the past in those games, but they could still be very interesting.

Those are pretty interesting ideas but no, not really. I think this is the lower limit on when a GTA ought to be set. It's wacky and satirical, but I just can't imagine how you could go on and implement that during WWII without goinf overboard.

I.E. American troops just kill whoever they see on D-Day, such as Norman civilians.

See what I mean? Besides I think LA Noire did a pretty good job at that already.

As for VC, I'm not sure. It could be done but I don't know if anything noteworthy happened during that time besides the Cuban Revolution and its effecte on Miami-Dade. Other than that, maybe the Trafficante family. Each GTA is purposefully set during an iconic time for crime, a time when a certain type of crime was on its peak and such. With VC, Latin-American drug syndicates taking over Miami, with SA it's African-American gangs and the rap game. With IV, it's Russian crime syndicates. What would be theme for VC? It would have more to do with the Cold War than crime, I feel like. A theme fit more for Agent (R.I.P.) than GTA.

Despite already being covered by LA Noire, I think LS in the 1940s or 50s would be a good one. And as I was telling @sabitsuki there's probably only one man for the job.
