How much time would pass for the storylines of each GTA?

Not sure if anyone has ever thought about this, but from the beginning of the story in any GTA game, realistically how many months or years would it take to get to the end of the story?(granted you completed all side missions) I doubt we would figure out a concrete answer since we all play at our own pace but let’s have fun with figuring this out.

I would estimate each mission takes a few hours for the characters to realistically finish some of the tasks given, and others taking days to set up especially since the the way time works with each second being 1 minute and how much progression the characters would go through.

An example would be the character arc of CJ - he’s changed and been through a lot of sh*t traveling through so many cities, that when he gets back to Los Santos - he’s a new man. I would always guess it’s can take him 4-6 months or maybe even close to a year to have a new perspective on his life.

I've always felt GTA IV's story would probably be about 3-4 months. Consistently I kill Vlad within about 2 in game weeks and in most saves 90-100 days pass so it feels on the money in that regard

San Andreas would be the longest and probably be about 6 months. GTA V I've always felt was only a couple of months. I wish R* kept the "days passed" stat in GTA V though.

That’s a good measurement to go by - completely forgot they had a days passed stat. Say we realistically did activities in between missions, followed traffic laws or a normal sleeping schedule as well as lunch or coffee - it would probably take a little longer but given that lot of the mission tasks wouldn’t take too long - very rarely would 1 mission take up an entire day.

That is kind of the beauty of the open world game though - it could take as long as it needs to.

One game I really appreciate for its time mechanics is Dead Rising. You are on time limit to get stuff done so no screwing off for too long.

That being said - GTA has so many dynamic events that make up for it.

In my GTA San Andreas save, with 100%, some activities + messing around, 206 in-game days have passed, so a bit over 6 months if you count the time I made those activities as the times CJ is eating or relaxing.

Since the days passed stat is missing in GTA V I once counted the days in a 100% playthrough of GTA V. It was about 90 days(three months).

For GTA IV, I would say at least April-June of the year, 2008. SA probably takes at least the same amount of time in the year 1992. My best guess would probably be about September-December, maybe. V probably only takes place over a course of about two months in 2013. There, I’d probably guess about September-October. III, VC, LCS, VCS, and CTW probably take place over a shorter course of time imo.

The Mysterious One

Going by my last playthrough of Vice City, I remember looking at the "days passed" stat and it went a little more than 90 days. Granted, it was because I did 100 percent completion, but really, it kind of made sense. Tommy had spent a good amount of time doing odd-jobs for the likes of Cortez, Diaz, etc. Until he takes out Diaz and now wants to prove himself as the new coke baron and wants to venture in fronts, while also getting involved in some other stuff like a gang war and making a deal with a band and a biker gang. It takes a good amount of time to get your empire going.

My most recent run with San Andreas went a little more than 200 days I believe, also with a 100 percent completion. It would seem that it would take a while for CJ to go through the entire state, while doing side stuff like taking over a few businesses like Wang Cars or Zero's RC Shop. Plus, I would think that Sweet's sentence lasts for only a few months.

Going completely by instinctive feeling:

GTA III: Maybe a little over a month.

GTA VC: Perhaps 4 months?

GTA Advance: 2 months

GTA SA: 9 months.

GTA LCS: 5 months

GTA VCS: 6 months

GTA IV and EFLC: 7 months

GTA V: A few weeks

IV kind of has to be during autumn (maybe somewhere between late summer/autumn/early winter, or maybe starting further into autumn and going further into winter) as it has brown/autumn leaves on the trees and is cold. I agree about the rest though.
