marmoo
Hi all Been a while since I have been on here but I need some tech advice and usually get sound advice from here I, after 10 years of having an old Android Asus tablet, have finally decided to buy a new one. The old trusty ASUS will have a Viking funeral on the Norfolk Broads when I finally lay it to rest :) My phone is Android so will still use that but I have been thinking about buying a Windows tablet as want to play a few low to mid range games on it and don't really want to stream via Steam Link unless I have to due to performance issues etc I am looking to install games on the tablet itself via either Steam or via Disc via an external USB DVD drive or just transfering the files from PC into the appropriate folder on tablet Looking at getting a 4GB Ram and at least 128GB SSD version of the Windows tablet but my question is really around the Operating System I have seen a few different versions of Windows 10 on each of the tablets ranging from Home to Pro to S Usually I would go for the Home version of windows because that would allow install from 3rd parties but only versions I have been able to find of tablet with the 4GB and 128SSD are the S version of Windows which according to what I have read will only allow apps to be downloaded from Windows Store. I am looking to install games from Steam Library and external DVD. Ram and storage is importnat to me Questions is, in a nutshell, will I be able to install games from Steam and DVD drive on Windows S? Cheers in advance for any advice :) Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/933728-installing-games-on-windows-10-s-tablet/ Share on other sites

No they don't have any computing power and lack a regular graphic card needed to run/play the games. Window Tablets are basically the same as an iPad or Samsung Galaxy Tab they're only strong enough to run the games in the app store. If you want a computer strong enough to play games but also work like a tablet (i.e touch screen) look into getting a regular laptop that offers touch screen monitors but if you just want a table to play games maybe look into getting a Nvidia Shield Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/933728-installing-games-on-windows-10-s-tablet/?do=findComment&comment=1070875539 Share on other sites
sivispacem
Most games won't run on Windows S at all. You're also limited to installing only apps from the app store. B7R
OP if he wanted too, could always try and change the license to proper windows 10, I think there's an option to do so but can't recall of the top of my head. Other OS's do have the option to upgrade licenses so I can't see why Windows 10 S couldn't. If it works out cheaper where he is, he could buy the windows S machine and look at getting a Windows 10 Home key or something. I'd research if you can do this first otherwise your setting yourself up for disappointment. And watch where you buy the keys from, don't buy them from Ebay or dodgy sites as their probably stolen keys and Microsoft could revoke them if they wanted too. As for gaming side of things, I don't know what your looking at but for a laptop / tablet that's on Windows S and mostly used & designed for office work and your typical internet browsing don't expect much from it. You could get away with a lot of 2D games but don't expect much from 3D even if the game was built before this devices time. If your deadset on steam games only and don't have a Microsoft account or want one, I guess save yourself the hassle and just go with the device that has Windows 10 Home on it. NO I think you've seen what others and myself have said at this point so just go with Windows 10 Home. Straypuft
Please dont burn your old tablet, environmental reasons mostly, Take the thing to an electronics recycler who can dispose of it while being able to get the precious metals out of it.
