Wait, what happened? I was able to set my settings back to their old pre-update state, and I'm running a 4 gig 980 still. Though the game still doesn't recognize that I have 4 gigs instead of 3.4.

I’ve got a 4GB 970 but it only recognises 2.6GB (which is what it is showing for 3GB cards).

The previous update altered the settings usage to make it impossible to run ultra textures at 1080p even with all other items put to minimum. At launch I could run ultra textures and an acceptable 30-50 FPS, if I made smart compromises with the other settings, and the game looked great.

Now I have a stupid and incorrect restriction blocking me from setting it up how I like.

Wow, that's horrible. I still have no idea what's up with that. Is it an issue on NVIDIA's end? Rockstar's? Both? GTA V did not have this issue, and I can't recall other games with VRAM limiters ever having the same.

It’s clearly R*’s fault. In the last PC games the released you could break the limit - now they have made it so you can’t run those settings. God knows why my card is lowballed so badly. Yes it’s old, but was cutting edge at the time and still runs most games great.

It's very confusing for sure. The 900 series has aged exceptionally well at 1080p. I can't think of a reason as to why this limitation would be intentional. Especially considering MP3 and GTA V displayed the true values. Maybe some of it is reserved by RDR2 and not shown? But that would be incredibly strange.

The only theory I have is that they realised close to release they hadn’t optimised it as well as they’d hoped and shoved in a hard VRAM limit to stop people on older cards running the game a settings that would cause performance issues.

But many of us could run ultra textures find if we made smart compromises on demanding features like water and reflections.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask about this, but I didn't figure it warranted a topic of its own so I thought this would be the best place to ask it. Apologies if I'm in the wrong with that.

Anyways, is there a mod that allows Arthur to move around during cutscenes? If there is, could someone do me a favor and do a head count of Eagle Flies' men during the opening cutscene of "My Last Boy." Not sure why but I've always been curious just how many men he brought with him. And also make a video showcasing playing as Pearson, Cleet and Joe, since these three are the only ones I wanna see that I have yet to find a video of. Including the models in a cutscene would be an added bonus but not necessary, if for some reason thag causes trouble.

Thanks in advance to whoever can do this, if it can be done :)

Could anyone make mods that enabled saving while using cheats?

or costumize dead eye special ability level 1-5 without following the storyline?

like it would be nice if we already have deadeye level 5 from the start

Something that's really unique about this game is just how much the other NPCs participate in the missions with Arthur. There are only a handful where he's completely alone and of all the ones with him being accompanied, there are very few where the other NPC is just a bystander that does nothing. So, that being said, I think a really cool mod would be to recreate the missions, but from the perspective of other characters. Some examples:

-Old Friends - Anybody who rides into the O'Driscoll camp is a candidate, so Dutch, Bill and Micah. Playing as Dutch would be cool since you'd finally be the one leading everyone.

-Eastward Bound - This one would probably be really boring, since I think it would likely just consist of leading the wagon caravan if you're Dutch and as anyone else following it until you reached the camp site. Since there wouldn't be any unique dialogue it would be in silence too. But I'm listing it so I can say this: With most of the end chapter missions (A Strange Kindness, The Battle of Shady Belle and That's Murfree Country) I imagine the final objective would be riding back to camp, then there'd be a fade to black and the usual end cutscene would play.

-The First Shall Be Last - I could see playing as Javier or Charles for this one. With Javier it would largely be the same mission, and the only deviation as Charles would be going around the other way.

-Blessed Are the Meek? - Playing as Micah, of course. Actually, pretty well all missions where Micah is a participant are ripe for potential, including the last one in Arthur's story for something particularly heart wrenching. "Red Dead Rat," anyone? 😛

-Pouring Forth Oil IV - John, Sean or Charles could be the player character in this one. There's a long wagon ride at the beginning, yes, but Arthur's also the passenger in a few missions (such as "An American Pastoral Scene") so this one would be no different than those.

-Further Questions of Female Suffrage - This is the first one where playing as Sadie is a real choice, though a lot of it would be wagon riding. Instead of sending mail her objective would be using the catalog to buy the new outfit, haha.

-American Distillation - You could do either Bill or Dutch for this one. Heck maybe you could even do Archibald. Dutch would probably be best though since you can still do the race at the end.

-Advertising, the New American Art - The first part of the mission would be wagon riding. The pouring drinks segment could be skipped over, and the final objective would see you trying to outrun the pursuers instead of just being the passenger.

-An Honest Mistake - Uncle, Bill or Charles here. Probably the only mission where you could play as Uncle and actually do anything.

-Preaching Forgiveness as He Went - Lenny, and this one is one of the missions that's an absolute perfect example. You'd basically do the mission with little change, except in the beginning you'd be leading Arthur and in the end you'd be a passenger in a wagon.

-Sodom? Back to Gomorrah - Any of the other three robbers. During the vault sequence the objective would probably be crowd control or something.

-Blood Feuds, Ancient and Modern - Pretty much anybody. Dutch and Hosea are at the door to Catherine Braithwaite's bedroom halfway through the mission though, and everyone who doesn't go inside the building would just be standing around for a bit. In the latter case, maybe something similar to "Favored Sons" could happen, where you loot a few bodies and then the rest of the enemies show up. In the former the only way I can see fixing it is to just have Dutch or Hosea (whoever you control) step out onto the balcony to shoot. It'd contradict what actually happens but that's to be expected with stuff like this (see many of the crossover missions in GTA IV and EFLC).

-Angelo Bronte, A Man of Honor - Yet another that's perfect and easy for this, since John and Arthur are pretty well side by side through the whole thing and both follow Dutch at the end of the mission so there'd be almost no change.

-Horsemen, Apocalypses - Dutch, John and Charles are all good candidates. Sadie is a good one for a slightly different perspective; the only problem with her is deciding what she's doing for the first half of the mission where she's mostly absent.

-Urban Pleasures - It could be either Dutch or Lenny, though Lenny is the prime candidate since he's the one who drives the wagon at the end and Dutch gets wounded half way through. Though a neat gameplay mechanic from Dutch's head injury would be the screen being messed with (like constantly having the screen look like it does when Arthur's HP is low, for example).

-Banking, the Old American Art - I guess you could play as any of the active guns but for obvious reasons Lenny is probably an exception. John too probably, for a similar reason. Charles might be a neat new perspective since the new objective would be the escape the law and then get back to camp, though what would happen from there and how you'd illustrate it, I have no clue, unless it's another that just fades to black and then we pick up when Arthur arrives in Lakay.

-Welcome to the New World - This could probably be a good opportunity to play as Hercule (obviously you wouldn't see the opening part). Actually, the other two Guarma missions where he's involved (Hell Hath No Fury and Paradise Mercifully Departed) are good opportunities for that as well, and for the others involved of course.

-Fleeting Joy - Sadie has the most potential as the player character in this one since she takes the lead and is the one out fighting with Arthur the whole time.

-Favored Sons - Dutch is the most likely candidate but you could make Eagle Flies one too, with the mission ending after he goes looking for Paytah. Or it could continue on somehow.

-My Last Boy - Again, anybody who comes along really. Charles is probably the best candidate since he's with Arthur a good chunk of the mission. Would be neat from Dutch, John, Bill and Javier's perspective since we'd see them attacking the oil fields from another location. It would also be really cool to do the mission as Eagle Flies and see the initial attack, but I dunno how hard that would be to do. It would be amazing to lead a charge on the oil fields as him though.

-Our Best Selves - The best candidates for this are really just the ones who get on the train, so Sadie, John and Cleet. With John the mission would have to end a bit early though.

-Red Dead Redemption - Sadie or Micah. With Sadie the mission would end just after Van Horn, and with Micah it would pick up with fleeing the camp. Then you'd chase Arthur down and go up the mountain or to the camp. Then you can finally beat the final boss, just not in the way anybody wanted to 😛 If someone could design this idea as an entire game, you could make a nifty gimmick with the honor system. If you played good, Sadie is how you'd see the mission, and if you played bad, it would be Micah.

-The first part of the epilogue doesn't really have any potential for any different perspectives, though the second half certainly does, split between Sadie and Charles. Bare Knuckle Friendships in particular would be cool because you'd get to do the fight as Charles.

There are others of course but those are some of the highlights and stuff off the top of my head. Another thing that I just thought of that would be pretty cool for this is the fact that you'd finally be the one to "lead" in missions, so to speak. A lot of the missions have Arthur having to follow another individual but by flipping the perspective a not insignificant portion of the missions would see you leading people around, especially if you were playing as somebody like Dutch. Also it would be incredibly trippy to see Arthur as another NPC during missions, wouldn't it? And horrifying to have to fight him as Micah!

I have no illusion of this actually happening, at least not on the scale of a full mod, since I know it would probably be very complicated to do, but I just thought I'd fantasize. Who knows, maybe someone with a lot of time and skill will see this and get inspired to do it! One can dream at least :)

This might be an easy one for a modeller:

The long barrel length on the cattleman revolver is over-the-top. I'd like a mod that just shortens it to the same length as a real cavalry model single action army (7.5").

It would be easy, but it might take a long time until OpenIV figures out game file editing.

A script that disables health regen would be cool. The game hands out tons of health remedies but there's never any reason to use them.

- Fixed loadout: If I want to take on enemies with only dual guns, let me do just that. I'm Billy the Kid, damnit!

- Fix dual guns: There is something funky going on with dual guns; it seems to forget that I selected them. Has something to do with exiting/entering the horse.

- Weapons locker: I'm tired of scrolling through a gazillion guns that I'm never gonna use.

- Bounty system: Bumping into someone should NOT give me a wanted level, if I kill someone in the middle of nowhere with no witnesses I should NOT get a wanted level.

- Allow running in camp/indoors

- Less aggressive pedestrians in general ("an armed society is a polite society").

- More missions!

Awful Waffle

we need a mod that fixes all of the Bandoliers.

you guys know what I'm talking about.

it's nice that the Bandolier gives you extra ammo but I've never actually worn it because the model is broken.

it just floats around your character. it's like 3 or 4 inches lifted above the rest of your clothes and it looks really stupid.

I want the Bandolier to actually fit the player like a tight strap. just like the strap from your Satchel. your Satchel doesn't have this problem. the strap lies flat against the body.

Gang hideouts in general are wayy too same-y, and easy to clear -- just toss a stick of dynamite and you're done. And there's only so many that spawn in the game. I'd like this option eventually, too.

I just want a mod which adds all of the 'Stolen' hats to your wardrobe

there's like 40 hats in the game you can steal from NPCs and many of them are so easy to miss. it's really annoying to keep track of them all. I enjoy exploring the world and locating the 'Found' hats on my own. unfortunately, it's a real pain in the ass collecting all of the stolen hats. more than half of them will get you in trouble with the law, or start a huge gunfight, or force you to be a bad guy and lose karma. I'd rather skip all of that nonsense and just enjoy a large hat collection lol

This. I was just collecting them all (never done it before) and missed the bucket hat because I didn't know I had to ignore the missions before it disappeared (I'm still in chapter 2)

I'm super f*cking salty about it, does anyone know if this is feasible as of now to do? Does any save editor have these hats? I'm a completionist and it really bothers me

Okay here's my one thing that needs to be GONE from this game.

Sliding down small hills. This game's hill steepness detection is laughable. I can't go up small hill if I am somewhere up in the mountains because game decides "that's far enough." and triggers me sliding down down A PERFECTLY CLIMBEABLE HILL. It's downright bullying player for attempting to explore higher elevations, you can't go vertical in this game.

http://prntscr.com/q3kbfc

http://prntscr.com/q3kclt

See all those marks on the ground? This hill. You can't go up there despite it being perfectly climbable. What's funnier was the fact that I CAME HERE FROM UP THERE.

Seriously, who at Rockstar thought this was a good idea? I am stuck, I can't go back to where I came from because apperantly, this LITTLE GOD DAMN HILL is too steep to climb and I get knocked down like a little pussy.

I am nowhere near map limit:

http://prntscr.com/q3kc1o

The hell is wrong with this game?

http://prntscr.com/q3kdfe

Notice how far those marks are. Jesus this game feels so open yet so restrictive. This is worse than any Ubisoft Open world game. I thought this game was supposed to offer freedom instead of limiting me going up such hills.

This isn't the only place this happens. In Roanoke Ridge there's 5 such spots with laughable sliding down mechanic that you are unable to overcome.

I think there should be a mod to allow you to hit a button to make your reticle appear on-screen, only for those instances where it's necessary, like hunting while in third person. It's impossible without that reticle, but I don't want to have to go back and forth into options to turn it on and off for things like this.

Haha, I missed the exact same hat and was so mad about it. Then I found out how to add it using the Save Editor. Here's a quick write-up on how to do it:

  1. First, you need to find the hex values for the items you want, since not all of them are listed in the Save Editor. Here are two threads with codes for hats: GameFAQs and Se7enSins.
  2. Then, open the RDR SE, click on "PC Selector" in the left side menu and open the save file that you'd like to modify, creating a backup for peace of mind.
  3. After it loads (it may take a while), click on "Character" in the left side menu, then on "Custom Outfits" in the top red banner at the right side. Scroll down to the bottom of the hats list and click on "Custom (Unknown)".
  4. Type in the code for the hat that you want as the "Hash 0x" value, click on "Submit" and click on the "Save File" button afterwards (located at the top left part of the window) to apply the changes to your save file.
  5. Load the modified save file (make sure that it's the one you edited) and your character should be wearing the wanted hat.

IMPORTANT: In order to save the hat (and register it as being collected), you need to drop it, then pick it up again. After doing that, you can overwrite your save file (or create a new one) and the hat will be always available in your wardrobe.

A total overhaul/conversion mod that uses the engine and existing assets to create a fantasy game. The environments are already great. Even the buildings could be reused with minor alterations. Remove the firearms. Add an improved melee combat system, horseback combat weapons, additional melee and ranged weapons as well as magic. Keep the existing animals and add in additional fantasy creatures and monsters. I would look to Outward as a good example of an existing fantasy game as a model. No levels like in standard rpgs- just skills, abilities, gear and magic.

Given that RDR2 is a Prequel to the original RDR on XB360 and PS3 and how R* included the majority of the map from that game, I would like to see an RDR1 mod ........................ but given that R* slapped a cease and desist on the RDR mod for GTA V, it's possible R* will be making the mod and selling it to us as SP dlc instead, but that could probably turn into the same SP dlc carrot they hung in front of GTAV SP players.
