Why didn't R* drop another banwave on this update?

That is the problem. That money can then get YOU banned for cheating.

I fully support Rockstar, but they really have to come up with a solution if they plan on bringing RDR2/RDO to PC. It doesn't bother me in GTA as I'm always in IO sessions, but seeing RDO is a public session only - my point comes into play.

Banwaves, by the definition of a banwave that people commonly attribute, do not exist. This has been proven many times over for quite some time now.

What do exist, precisely, and has been tested and proven, are background scripts which update with what are called signature scans of a certain mod menu trainer or another, usually several at a time per bgscripts update, which will then cause any player using one of the mod menu trainers that have been sigged, to essentially become detected if it has been injected via LoadLibrary into the GTA5.exe process and the user loaded online with it injected, even if the did not use it does not matter, their account will become suspended within a few hours typically.

This may give the appearance of a "banwave", but technically it is not a banwave by the false definition that people use for this term "banwave", but merely should be referred to as a detection. Of which of course by the very nature of how bgscripts sig scanning would appear results in a so-called "banwave".

Rockstar do not traditionally wait for a certain period of time (months, release of a new dlc, etc) to mass suspend a massive sh*t-ton of modder's accounts lol, it has never really worked like that.

Anyway, aside from signature scans, Rockstar commonly also implement measures for certain features that mod menus may be capable of to be come detected upon usage; Usually used to cause spotty suspensions amongst the users of more technically advanced mod menu trainers which effectively block bgscripts from retrieving the signature of the menu when it is injected.

Aside from the above, there are also staff who in fact are documented to be in-game in essentially a hidden player SCTV spectator slot (player index 31 or 32), but these staff are usually only tasked with finding money drop lobbies or modders spawning money in-game to other players. These are what usually result in the little minimap notifications that are sent out lobby-wide stating "XXX was detected cheating and has been removed from the session" basically a manual ban enacted from one of these staff.

Its because they know PC is a lost cause. They only do banwaves right before a big update in hopes that without that modded cash floating around in player's bank accounts they would buy shark cards instead. By banwave I mean updating the software to catch cheaters who been flying under the radar until now. Its a constant arms race between the developers and the cheaters, each constantly at work to be one step ahead of the other. Rockstar knows this too and does not really bother until a big update is about to hit.

Back during the brief period modding was possible on the Xbox 360/PS3 I avoided that situation by filing a ticket on Rockstar Support that I received modded money. Within a few hours all the modded money was removed and I never ended up a target for Rockstar's ban hammer. I imagine the same works for PC as well.

It's what's strangling that game, along with the lacking content of course.

It's just not my fun, I'm playing R*'s idea of fun too much. No flexibility.

And seeing cash, gold, and godmode glitches there go unpunished plenty already is just showing too obviously that it's just gonna be the same as GTA:O but with forcing legitimate players to suffer it.

They've done nothing at all to show they learned, all they learned is to be cheap.

There are many cheaters even on console just that it effects other people when cheaters cheat on PC. Console cheaters have been banned in the past now though it is time for PC cheaters to have there justice served. Problem is you can't just put them in a cheater lobby because they will just hack their way out you have to completely wipe their accounts from the server.

This is a common misconception i see a LOT, people think they are in the clear when they havent received a ban for money drops within a few days, but i've had a ban for this literally 8 months after it happend, they appear to check on every single profile every once in a while, but because theres millions upon millions of profiles (and the servers are actually meant to be doing other stuff like matchmaking) it can literally take ages for R* (read: some automated system) to reach your profile and conclude something isnt quite right. If you spend the money that gets dropped on you the danger increases exponentially aswell, if it just sits in your bank account you technically didnt do much wrong yet & said system might not even see anything wrong with your account.

What i've learned over the years is there is a cheeky work around, if you get some serious money drop (imo anything over lets say 100k) you go and report it to rockstar, then if you get lucky, depending on the support person in question & the amount you were given, you sometimes get to keep a percentage, or all of it, you reporting when it happend and from who you got it actually helps them ban the culprit, so (within reason) they will allow you to get a bit of gain from being honest about it and reporting it (that said they will never give you anything for a cheater report, they might just let you keep some of money drops that you report though)

There are, in fact, players still using "mod" menus (on the PC anyway)--was in a session last night with someone changing the lighting and weather around.

So had snow in Los Santos for a while, along with the usual background text chatter of teleporting, handing out money, etc. They're just laying low at the moment.

Remember that R* has been "dealing" with cheaters since GTAO came out on the PC... they'll be dealing with them until the day GTAO croaks for good.

In my experience, reporting it to Rockstar is not worth the risk.

In previous responses from R* Support (back in the early days when they were somewhat helpful), I was told to not worry about money drops (see below). My advice is just don't spend or deposit it all at once.

Hello DentureDynamite,

We apologize for the delay in our response.

In the past, a small number of GTA Online players sought to exploit the game by generating and distributing game-breaking amounts of in-game cash, disrupting the experience for other players. Anyone who innocently received GTA$ as a result of these exploits, but did not engage in cheating to acquire it did not face any further action - the funds were just removed, and players were able to keep any items they had owned at that time. Those who actively engaged in cheating and exploiting the game in this manner were, however, subject to in-game penalties at our discretion. This may have included being placed in isolated cheater pools or banned from GTA Online altogether.

At this time, you do not need to do anything further and this ticket will resolve on its own. We will continue to issue hotfixes and title updates on an ongoing basis to counter the negative impact this has had on gameplay. We look forward to seeing you Online!

Best regards,

Vallen A.
Rockstar Support

Frankly, I'm more worried about "mod" menu users doing something more malicious than I am of R*.

Thanks to the "mod" menu users, I lost ~$80 million, then 'regained' about ~$50 million.

Welcome to the Twilight Zone GTA Online on the PC. lol

Brainless r* refuses to revoke the admin rights from the cheater program. So trying to report someone only goes to the cheater, and the cheat program auto kicks you. As long at the idiots continue to allow the cheaters full admin access, it will only get worse.

As somebody that reports every cheater he can, i dont think this is a very big problem, as 9 out of 10 times i hear nothing & dont get disconnected. Pretty sure this is something exclusive to 'the best' (yuck) paid cheats. Besides that its not so strange that they dont wanna remove their admin control's, thats what R* employee's actually use. They could add some basic IP check though, or maybe they already have.
