Custom license plate dilemma / rant

Well.. iFruit is no longer refreshing the cars on the list for me anymore. Stopped working altogether. No clue anymore.

The SA-MP RP server I play on has a custom plate system with it's DMV that allows you to custom set text as well as revert to a random plate.

 

/customreg [vehicleid] RANDOM confirm.

 

But you know, expecting QoL out of Rockstar is like expecting a sports game from EA without MTX. Good luck.

It's sad that they have this nature of leaving behind things they've created and moving on without revisiting the issues that plague the game til today.

Small issues like your character auto-exiting a vehicle if they're a passenger when CEO (you or someone else) launches Headhunter and when Headhunter ends, I don't get how that has been overlooked for over 3 years.

One of the reps in support the other day said R*'s working on a fix [when talking about the custom plate issues], that made me chuckle.

Not sure if this works on console, but at least on PC you can use a merge glitch to copy the license plate from a car stolen off the street to one that has a custom plate, then blow up the stolen car so you don't have dupes.

I have a deleted custom plate that keeps putting me in dupe detection every time I sell off an older car with those plates. This sounds like n answer for my problems. Is it something I could do solo?

There is currently a solo merge glitch on PC -- at least it worked a couple of days ago -- and that's how I found about this.

 

It's really quite simple. I would post the steps here but I'm not sure if there's a rule against promoting glitches.

In the ps4 vehicle dupe request thread  it's posted videos of merge, give cars to friends glitches etc all the time so I don't think you'll get in trouble for posting the steps here. A guy also posted steps for me there once

PC solo merge for overwriting custom plates

 

Requirements:

- A motorcycle parked in MOC storage (Vortex works for me, but so should Akuma, Bati, ...)

- An apartment with a full garage, including the vehicle with the plate you want to overwrite

- A nightclub garage with 9 vehicles (to be filled with a stolen car)

- High frame rate: use solo/invite only session, maybe low res window mode, etc.

 

Steps to overwrite custom plate:

- Steal a car and park it in the nightclub garage (now containing 10 vehicles)

- Call your MOC: It may have to be in a suitable location for high frame rate, for example the Vinewood Bowl works for me

- Request the motorcycle parked in the MOC through the MC menu

- Drive to the MOC and into the back of the trailer, then quickly get on the motorcycle again and drive out

- The motorcycle should disappear from under you after exiting the MOC -- if this step doesn't work you need higher frame rate!

- Go to your nightclub with either an NPC vehicle or a CEO vehicle, enter on foot

- Drive the stolen car out of the nightclub garage (it should not show up on the mini map)

- Drive to your apartment and request the vehicle with the custom plate through the Mechanic (it will be delivered but also not show on the mini map)

- Drive the stolen car into your apartment garage and it will merge over the spot of the car just requested

- Drive out of the garage again and to a mod shop (LSC, Benny's, office, arena), purchase any modification like a plate background

- Make sure the game saved (by changing outfit), then exit to single player

- Go back online again: the vehicle parked in the apartment should now have the plate of the stolen car (no other modification should have changed except for what you just purchased, e.g. plate background)

- Request and blow up the stolen car to remove it

 

Of course you can also use this like a regular merge glitch; in this case the "stolen car" is the "donor vehicle" and has to be parked in a full nightclub garage.

What to avoid / plate red flags:
- Multiple copies of the same vehicle with the exact same non-customized (so 11xxx11 style) plate 
(instant give-away that you duped cars, you dont want this as R* can and often will limit your selling ability, automatically, either temporary or forever)
- Storing a new vehicle with a personalized plate (that you dont have at the time of storing)
(without going into to much details, some people can spawn storable cars, but most of those come with a plate referencing the menu they used, if you dont swap the plate before storing, the vehicle gets flagged, plate wont be changeable etc)

Whats totally fine:
- 160+ cars with 160+ personalized plates even though you only have 30 in your R* social crap account
- 160+ cars with the same personalized plate, even if that plate looks like the 11xxx11 style, it will still be a personal plate, nothing to worry about

Food for thought if you really want 160 new non-personal plates:
The iFruit app is a pretty buggy mess that supports a lot more features then the UI lets you configure, im fairly sure theres even a way to revert custom plates back to 'real' ones with the iFruit app's back-end? im not gonna go into the fine details of this (glitches are a no-no here sadly) and never actually tried reverting plates with it, but in short Google for "GTA5 iFruit + Charles"

My issue is why Rockstar didn't just set it up so we can change the tags in-game instead of using that sorry excuse that calls itself an app.

My biggests pet peeves with license plates in this game are two:

 

- You can't use spaces by normal means.

- Text with an uneven number of characters can't be centered at all.

This is not a good idea since you can only have 30 plates,  unless you mean  that the 160+ personalised plates are only from  the 30 you can have?
