SilentWolf445
Hi, I just recently installed GTAV and had a question regarding the CPU and GPU usage. My CPU and GPU usage is around 40-50 percent while running the game at almost maxed settings with the exception of MSAA off and all advanced graphics option off. I usually get between 80-90 FPS, and sometimes higher depending on the scene and the detail present. I was just wondering if this sort of CPU/GPU usage is normal. I have heard that GTAV is extremely CPU heavy and thought my CPU would at least be above 60% usage. Some people also have this problem and its cause was low ram speed. However, they were experiencing significant performance loss and running 1600 MHz ram. I do not believe I am achieving performance loss since I am running above 60 FPS on average. However, would my FPS increase if my usages were much higher? The only reason I would want more usage and FPS is because I installed some plugins and mods (ex. LSPDFR) and my FPS drops below 60 FPS regularly with the CPU and GPU usage still and seemingly low. Would overclocking my ram help? I know that Ryzen CPUs are ram speed dependent. I also looked up a benchmark that someone ran with a Ryzen 5 2600 and RTX 2060 and they had around the same CPU usage but their GPU was around 85-100 percent usage. They had MSAA on and some of the advanced settings on as well. Seeing this I turned up MSAA to 4x and and my GPU usage spiked to 80 for a little then dropped to 60-70, still higher than before. My FPS seemed to be around 70-80. I turned all the advanced settings on (except for extended distance scaling) and my GPU usage was still around 60-70 but now my FPS dropped a little, but still between 70-80 for the most part. So now my question is, are my settings too low for my GPU, which is causing lower usage and possible performance loss. I would also like to add that under my original settings, my GPU usage would spike when entering the menu and usually stay around 70 until I exit, after which it would go back down to around 40%. As a side note, Overwatch utilizes more of my CPU and GPU and it is much easier to run than GTAV. Components: Asus B450-F Ryzen 5 2600X RTX 2060 Corsair Vengenace LPX 16 GB at 26666 MHz (Everything is stock and the same as it was out of the box)

GTA V is a bit weird when it comes to CPU usage, especially with Ryzen cpus. GTA V doesn't scale well accross many cores, so it can not use 100% of a Ryzen 2600x. As for overclocking your ram, that would help. If your ram supports XMP for higher clock speeds, you could try that and see if it helps. Ryzen cpus are limited by Ram speed in gaming because of their modular design. As for your settings, yes it's fine to load the graphics card more by raising the settings, as long as you are happy with the framerates. Just keep in mind that Extended Distance Scaling loads the CPU more than the graphics card. I only use it when I'm taking maximum quality screenshots in 4k. But when I'm actually playing I care more about framerate and keep it off. I don't play Overwatch but I noticed Forza Horizon 4 also has no problem maxing out my Ryzen 5 1600 so I guess it's a limitation in GTA V's engine, which isn't too different from GTA 4's back in 2008.
