San Andreas v1.0 Windows 10 I can't use any .asi files whatsoever or gta_sa.exe won't launch

I have a GTA SA v1.0 physical CD, running on Windows 10, no mods or anything other than Silent's ASI loader. Everything is perfect until I try to make one very simple change: to play it in 1366x768, so I download Wesser's widescreen fix, but the ASI files all prevent the game from launching. When I try to start the game, "gta_sa.exe" shows up on Task Manager, and reports using memory, but then disappears after it hits around 20MB, and the game never opens. What am I doing wrong?
