Free aim vs free aim assisted?

I just tried both on pc and free assisted seems to be the same as free.

they're the same if you use keyboard/mouse.

So if I'm on controller aim assist, and I want to play kb and mouse without changing targeting mode, I'll be just as poor an aim against other kb mouse players (but disadvantaged against other controller aim assist)?  Because I always get prompted to change, so the host must be the decider?  It seems the lobbies are mixed sometimes even though they're meant to be seperate,

It's a case of rockstar logic. Though you may use strictly free aim anyone using free aim assisted will be placed into the same free aim session as you because their aim preferenve is set to "Free Aim-Assisted". Those two first words determine what session you join. Just as how Assisted Aim-Partial and Assisted Aim-Full are lumped together Free Aim and Free Aim-Assisted get lumped together.
