States and Cities in the GTA (HD) Universe

I mainly just want to focus on states and cities in the HD Universe because it is the current one and I would like to see it expand

 

Seen states:

State of Liberty (Liberty City only) (based on New York State)

Alderney (possibly only part of it) (based on New Jersey)

San Andreas (southern) (based on California)

North Yankton (briefly) (based on North Dakota)

 

States that possibly/likely exist:

Robada (maybe in the HD Universe it is separate) (Nevada)

South Yankton (come on there has to be) (South Dakota)

 

Seen cities:

Liberty City (New York City)

• Algonquin (Manhattan)
• Broker (Brooklyn)
• Dukes (Queens)
• Bohan (The Bronx)

Alderney City (Newark, New Jersey)

Los Santos (Los Angeles)

• Vinewood (Hollywood)
• Rockford Hills (Beverly Hills)
• Del Perro (Santa Monica)
• Davis (Compton)

 

Mentioned cities:

Carcer City (HD Universe's version of Chicago in my opinion though others believe it could Detroit, Philadelphia, or Boston)

Cottonmouth (Tampa in my opinion though others believe it is New Orleans)

Capitol City (Washington, DC)

 

Mentioned cities that were seen in the 3D Universe:

Vice City (Miami)

San Fierro (San Francisco)

Las Venturas (Las Vegas)

Las Venturas was technically seen in the HD universe, if you consider a black box with a table from the Venturas Poker Challenge as 'seen'.

 

I also wonder if they would continue to use Florida for the state Vice City is in like they did in the 3D universe, or if Rockstar would create another state for it.

Looks like Red County still exists in the HD Universe.

I don't know if any other of the Alderney areas are based on specific cities/towns enough to be considered representations of them? I think most of them are more fictional than the Liberty City areas and based on/influenced by multiple different New Jersey towns, but is Acter meant to be Newark?

I used to think Carcer City was Detroit/Chicago but now I think it's either Philadelphia or Boston. It could also be Buffalo, NY because during development of IV I think they said that they wanted to include Carcer City and Buffalo really fits the description.

I'm gonna debate this, did they actually say "Capitol City" as Washington DC, or just refer to a city as "The Capitol city"? I'm just saying because I swear Washington DC was mentioned somewhere in V.

 

Not only that but Ron mentions "within the beltway" on his radio show on Blaine County Public Radio, which is a term describing anything pertaining to the US government based on DC's location within a beltway, which makes me think; if Rockstar made a fictional equivalent of DC, surely they would make some fictional stand-in for the beltway.

Most of it is based off of Newark (although geographically it is more based on Hudson County being right next to Manhattan and all), but certain areas like Berchem or Westdyke are based off of Hoboken and Weehawken, respectively. And to answer your question, Acter seems to based on the Elizabeth, NJ area.

yeah I mentioned how some people think it might be based on other cities. But now that I think of it, Buffalo seems pretty plausible too as some refer to Carcer being within the State of Liberty. Though, I'm pretty sure it is supposed to be a big city (like Chicago or Detroit), otherwise I don't think it would be mentioned as much, and it would probably be located further into the Midwest (like Chicago), because it would make sense for Michael to have started his criminal career there before he branched out (like he mentioned he did), Michael also has that Chicago accent which would point to him having started out his life in a Chicago-esque area.

Thats strange, I swear "Capitol City" was mentioned in GTA IV.
