ROCKSTAR POSER

Before I begin, this is something that is more orientated towards the photography community of GTA, but either way, anyone is free to join in!

The Rockstar Poser was something I brought up a good 3-4 years ago somewhere here on the forums, it got lost and at the time, was something before we even got the Editor.

The general idea is to allow players to create their own poses by manipulating in-game bone armatures, similar to what would usually be done within 3D modeling/posing software. This could be anything from facial expressions to full on photoshoot poses. These poses can then be saved to a list (from 10 to 20-ish) and used much like an Action. Of course, these however are not animated and are for still shots.

People currently have to make use of in-game actions to appear to be doing something/interacting with the environment or quite simply put, using mods on PC. The Rockstar Poser's purpose is to facilitate that by, as I said above, allowing players to make their own.

I know that the topic isn't large nor extremely detailed as some of my previous ones, but quite frankly there's not much else to say; its basically your character(s) starting as a T-Pose then from there its up to the players to rotate bones accordingly to create a pose and save it, upload it to the Social Club (optional) and c'est fini.

Personally I think its too late to add such feature to the game that is now 6 years old, but it would be nice to get the community's opinion on such feature, whether you're a photographer or not!

It's weird they haven't got poses you can do like leaning against your car, sitting down and stuff since they made the editor. If they want people to make movies, they should of added loads more stuff like that.

The messed up part is R* themselves use mods to do just that, one would think they'll finally implement such a pose.

For me, this feature would be a must have in order to make snaps. After spending some time shooting pictures, i feel the limits of the Rage engine and players boundaries are pushing too thight for me to implement snap shot i've planned, despite having mods that allow me to mix animations. That is definitely something i wouldn't mind spending time working on. But honestly, i think this is nothing more than a wet dream by now.

I used to make shots in Gmod before. You literally had to pose everything yourself, so i have a bit of experience posing ragdolls.

it would be great, but i strongly doubt the engine is even capable for that.

they would need to add a entire system to the engine.

and i doubt they would make such big changes to the 6 year old engine code.

bc why should they make a massive change in the engine of a 6 yeaqr old game while there is a updated engine version with RDR2

With this, I would finally be able to assert dominance over Lost Santos. T-Pose at the top of Maze Bank.

there is a test animation that can be played with mods.

with that you can literally make a pic in T-Pose

:D

Would I?:  yes

Would many others?: probably not the majority of players

Probably one of my most wanted features. This falls in line with opening/closing car hoods, which some of you old timers may remember we used to not be able to do.

All for the pics.

Im not a photographer and I really don't see a use for this at all, sorry but I even think its a dumb idea.

- People will use it to make sex scenes which we can't have in an adult only game mostly played by teens

- Adding posing with good kinematics (read: not pulling character apart etc) is a bunch of work, much more then you realize, games don't use skeletons in that way, games just play/blend animations, they would bscly have to write special tools inside the game engine for this, never gonna happen

- Somebody could make a pose where they go under the map, trough a wall, whatever

- People need to stop trying to make this second life, its a game about playing a criminal, its not a game about life as a instagram celebrity

- Snapmatic is already 10000000% ruined by all the people uploading photos of mods (showing you stuff you can't have/do)

- Don't think you got your maths right, creator is over 5 years old.

Not trying to be a douchebag or anything, but this is just not needed

Black Terminator

I co sign on this idea. I would like my characters to lean on a car while their feet are on the car side. Laying on the car too. I want more poses too.

I'd definitely use this all the time as one of my major complaints on the Editor is that I can't make proper animations to make a proper pose for an image. I have to improvise with what's given, which is no easy task.

rockstar editor need this too.. for snaps and making videos, but probably its too late now..

i may be wrong but i think its easy for rockstar to add a menu full of animations to the editor.. animations used in single player..

but it seems that they prefer players to experience their actions in game rather than just putting it together in a set.. so players wont spend their whole playing time in the editor and actually spend most of it in the online..

this is what we got and gta v is an old game for improvement i guess..

but honestly, players who created art from this game did just fine with what they got.. and i love u all ❤️

Shadow of the Tomb Raider has something similar. You can change facial moods and poses in the Photo Mode.

Here's how it actually works:

I think it's an interesting idea but unfortunately the Rockstar Editor is not an official photo mode.

Plus, all facial "moods" already in the game are horrible but I could get behind a pose editor.

Respecting your opinion entirely. But based on all NPC's, character's, etc armatures in the game files, this doesn't require a special tool, coding yes, but not a tool - its a static action, if they can already make animated actions; then static is not a problem. In fact, I use their original bones to make my own poses and even rig to my own custom 3D body structures (i've posted a few around the forums).

Always good to get peoples opinions though!

Unless i'm misunderstanding what you want, theres bscly no connection between the bones besides a little basic math (foot IK) as soon as you let the user screw around with the bones you need full body kinematics solving to prevent weird stuff? or am i just thinking about a way to advanced system compared to you? im assuming end point control here (drag a foot, whole body follows, etc) but it just dawned on me you might just literally mean rotating bones 1 at a time? would be a very limited system to work with though, so im assuming you want a better system then that 😛

(Also honestly my first reply was a bit direct perhaps, just had a fun heated discussion right before making a few posts this morning lols, my bad)

They can't even provide a chamfer tool for two pieces of their own stunt track snapped together at different angles, relying instead on fudging a ramp or a bit of block between them to smooth the transition.

Rockstar have all but abandoned their creative tools like Editor and Director so I don't expect them to give us a poser. The economics aren't right. If there is one thing gamers despise more than microtransactions, it's having to buy poses.

I'm saying this as someone who enjoys taking the odd snapmatic here and there and would find a poser tool very useful.

People already do this. Insert your comment about Second Life here.

Being a criminal and an instagram celebrity are not mutually exclusive. The overlap in that venn diagram is larger than you think.

Not on current-gen console, which would benefit from a tool like this the most.

Cool idea.  I would definitely use it since I like to take pics but I think ppl would get too sexual.  A more realistic option is to petition R* to give us all the animations and poses that the NPCs can do.
