Concept GTA: The Adventures of Wade & Lamar

Overview

GTA: The Adventures of Wade & Lamar takes place in 2012 in Southern San Andreas. The game follows the separate lives of Wade Hebert and Lamar Davis in their daily struggles to survive. Their low intelligence and incompetence get them involved in crazy situations which sometimes leads to unfortunate outcomes.

There is a focus on humor and the world is alive and filled with activity. The game will also feature more realism than previous titles. For instance, both characters will be physically weaker than men who are bigger than them. Also, Wade will not know how to hot-wire a car. He can only steal vehicles by carjacking. Lamar will have the ability to attend flight school and steal small aircraft. Wade will be too stupid to learn to fly.

The number of weapons that characters can carry will be limited, and visible weapons will sometimes lead to the authorities being alerted. Both characters can and will be mugged and carjacked if they get careless. People who have been wronged by them may remember them and seek revenge.

Cops will recognize them for 24 hours after they commit a crime unless they change their appearance. Expensive cars will be equipped with trackers making them unable to be kept for long periods.

Gun stores only sell non-military weapons. No fully automatic guns or explosives of any kind.

Lamar can acquire a fully automatic Uzi from Gerald.

Molotav cocktails and pipe bombs can be crafted.

Other weapons can be found - baseball bats at parks, chainsaws and axes by the lumberyard.

Missions (Incomplete)

Wade 

1. The Hitchhiker
The game starts with Wade driving in Blaine County and he picks up a hitchhiker in the RV. The hitchhiker is wanted by the police and the cops chase the RV while the hitchhiker forces Wade at gunpoint to keep driving. The RV gets shot up and rammed until it breaks downs. The hitchhiker is killed and the cops say, "Sorry about your vehicle" while laughing. Wade calls a tow truck and the RV is towed to Beeker's Garage. He can't afford repairs so the mechanic makes a deal with Wade. If Wade vandalizes 10 cars and the owners get their cars repaired at Beeker's, then he'll repair Wade's RV.

2. Flour Power
Wade decides to sell flour as cocaine to people in Paleto Bay. He makes a small profit before being chased by angry customers and escapes by jumping onto a train. 

3. Rocky Road
Wade, Daisy Bell, and Kush-Chronic come up with a plan to make money by selling stolen ice cream to people at a park. They drive to a convenience store and create a disturbance to get the clerk to exit the store. While the clerk is away, Wade goes inside and takes all of the ice cream out of the freezer. They drive to the park and they notice the ice cream has melted because they forgot it has to be kept frozen. Wade licks the melted ice cream off the floor of the camper.

4. Happy Birthday
It's Daisy Bell's birthday and Wade wants to get her a gift. He knows Daisy is an animal lover, so he decides he's going to catch a coyote and give it to her as a pet. He chases one around Sandy Shores and is able to corner it in someone's yard. Things go horribly wrong and Wade has to get rabies shots.

5. I Need My Medication
Wade comes up with a brilliant plan. He intentionally shoots himself in the foot to get admitted into the hospital in order to steal pain pills. While inside, he has to use stealth to find the pills. He locates them and exits. Unable to control himself, he takes some of the pills and passes out near the hospital. The authorities follow the trail of blood from his foot injury and arrest him.
 

 

Lamar 

1. Free Chop  
Chop bit someone and animal control takes him and puts him in the pound and plans to euthanize him because they deemed him to be dangerous. Lamar decides to break him out by stealing a car and driving it through the wall of the animal shelter. He locates Chop, but he inadvertently releases some vicious dogs that terrorize the city.

2. Apache Blood
After being disrespected by a member of the Ballas, Lamar decides to get revenge by spray painting the gang member's house green. He uses stealth to get in the neighborhood and begins painting. Halfway through, the fumes cause him to hallucinate and he imagines purple chickens chasing him and pecking at his legs. He's able to shoot some of the chickens and runs away until he blacks out. When he comes to his senses, he's on top of a moving bus with bullet wounds to his legs.

3. Cracking the Shell
Lamar devises a scheme to rob an armored truck. He borrows JB's tow truck, hooks up the armored truck with the crew inside and drives it to the overpass with the broken railing. He drops the truck off the overpass and the doors bust open and loose cash falls out. The wind causes the cash to start blowing away and other motorists stop to take some. Lamar only gets a small amount before he has to escape from the cops.

4. You go, Vago
A member of the Vagos named Tito has stolen some merchandise that belonged to Gerald. Gerald hires Lamar to find where Tito lives and make him pay. Lamar has to break into a police car and access the computer to get Tito's last known address. Lamar goes to Tito's house and knocks on the door planning to shoot him when he opens the door. Unbeknownst to Lamar, the cops have been staking out the house due to criminal activity and before he can shoot Tito, Lamar is arrested, handcuffed, and put into the back of a police car. On the way to the station, Lamar is able to kick out the back window and escape. He has to make his way back home with a 2-star wanted level while his hands are cuffed behind his back.

5. Fool's Gold Rush
While burglarizing a house, Lamar finds an old treasure map dated 1850. The treasure is located somewhere in Grapeseed. He drives out there and by using landmarks, he discovers the treasure is on the O'Neil Ranch. The O'Neil's see him and tell him to leave. Knowing he can't dig up the treasure on his own, he goes home and asks Franklin to be his back up. Franklin asks to see the map and Lamar shows it to him. Franklin looks at the back of the map and yells, "This says Richards Majestic Productions! You stole a movie prop, you moron!"

Notes

Wade and Lamar never see each other. Wade can visit Los Santos, but heavy drug use has affected his memory which is why he doesn't remember being there in GTA V. Lamar can recruit gang members.

Good to see concept thread making being back from the dead. I also like the game's cover art, although I wish there was a motorcycle/bicycle in the upper right corner like on most of the other GTA games' covers.

How about designing a mission that will learn him how to hotwire vehicles?

I appreciate you decided to focus on realism, but high-end cars with trackers seem to be "too realistic", for me. Imagine you've stolen a Cheetah and after a while you just lose that rare supercar which is hard to be find in the game. Unless you provide some mechanics that will let the player keep expensive cars or something. Maybe some character's place where the player can remove the tracker from his/her car?

I just think it fits the characters better because I can't imagine Wade or Lamar being able to store a supercar. Maybe have the ability to remove the tracker, but the cops and owners will still search for it. Plus, with Simeon's business and all the luxury homes in the game, it wouldn't be too hard to find expensive cars.

 

I also like the idea of having rare items that you have to search for. It adds a challenge and makes you cherish the item while you have it.

Smoking meth would give the characters a speed boost and increase stamina.

 

Pain pills would allow the characters to take more damage.

No. The weapons would be the types of guns you can find in sporting goods stores in the U.S. Maybe some bows and arrows. Pepper spray, BB guns, and paintball guns would be fun, so add those too.

6. Tune Out

Wade and friends are upset by the fact that no radio stations in Blaine County play horrorcore music. They decide to break into the Rebel Radio building and add some new songs to the playlist. There are multiple ways into the building. While inside, they have to add some horrorcore MP3 songs to Rebel Radio's computer system and change the file names to country songs.

Utterly ridiculous, but it seems to work along the established GTA guidelines. I was worried that it would be too damn over the top hilarious, but the way you described it it actually can be quite sensible.

Random Events

Wade

1. Speed on Speed
A man outside of Sandy Shores Medical Center asks Wade for a ride. The man introduces himself as Baxter and says he was there for a psychological evaluation. While driving to the destination, he asks Wade if he's ever seen that movie with the bus that can't slow down. Wade says no and the man says, "I'll show you what it was like!" The man grabs Wade's legs so he can't hit the brakes and pushes the accelerator all the way down. The event ends when Wade crashes violently. Baxter gives Wade his phone number and tells him to call him whenever he wants some mind-altering substances.  

2. Fire Water
While driving past the Blaine County Motel, 2 women flag down Wade and tell him they want to go swimming in the motel's pool, but there isn't enough water. They ask Wade if there's anything he can do. Wade has to steal a fire truck to add water to the pool. When enough water is added, the women invite Wade to join them and they reward him by swimming topless.

 

Lamar

1. Rap Sheet
Lamar spots a film crew making a video for a rapper. He goes by them and they ask him if he would like to be an extra. They give him a prop gun and tell him to dance to the rhythm of the song and take out the prop gun at the end of the song and fire it. Lamar does the dance, but at the end he accidentally grabs his real gun and shoots the rapper. Lamar is arrested, but the rapper survives and bails him out because the shooting gave him some street cred. Lamar is rewarded with a necklace and the video can be seen on TV.

2. Hooked
Lamar picks up a prostitute and she instructs him to drive behind some buildings. As the action is about to begin, she grabs his pants and wallet and takes off. Lamar has to chase her on foot through alleys and across roads to get his pants back.

3. World War 3
A member of the Families gang tells Lamar to get a car and make some Ballas chase them into Vagos territory to get both gangs to start fighting. Then they call the cops to start a huge gunfight.

7. Master Blasters
Wade and Kush-Chronic decide to steal cash from an ATM. Their plan is to blow up one using explosives from the quarry. There are multiple approaches to get the explosives. Once they have them, they locate an ATM and detonate the charge. The explosion is too powerful and much of the cash is damaged. After leaving the scene with the money, the damaged bills have to be pieced together in a jigsaw puzzle mini-game. Knowing that banks will replace damaged cash, they take the money to a bank. The teller gives them a bag of new bills and they leave. Unbeknownst to Wade and Kush-Chronic, the teller was aware of the ATM robbery and placed a dye pack in the bag. The dye pack explodes in the vehicle and the money is ruined. They have to lose the cops wile stained red.

3. The Exterminator
In Paleto Bay late at night, Wade comes across a man outside of the Cluckin' Bell chicken processing plant. The man says he is a supervisor and that there is a rodent problem inside the facility. He tells Wade he will pay him $10 for every rat Wade kills before the morning crew arrives.

8. Breaking Stupid
After listening to Wade and Kush-Chronic complain about how much money they spend on meth, Daisy Belle suggests that they start making their own. They find instructions on the internet and make a list of the supplies they'll need. Wade has to visit the 'You Tool' store on Senora Freeway and the 'Dollar Pills' store on Route 68 to acquire the items. Once he has everything, they drive the RV to a secluded location and a cooking meth mini-game begins. The ingredients have to be added in precise amounts and combined and stirred in the correct order while maintaining the proper temperature. The process becomes increasingly difficult and there are 2 possible results:

A. Failure
The mixture starts smoking. They run out of the RV and it explodes.

B. Success
They produce a substance and Wade decides to smoke some. The recipe they got off the internet must have been incorrect because Wade begins to experience terrifying hallucinations and has to fight off 2 large snakes that are trying to wrap around him. He escapes from the snakes, and a dinosaur begins to chase him. Wade has to battle the dinosaur using a flaming sword and exploding orbs. He defeats the dinosaur and the screen fades to black. Wade wakes up under the giant purple dinosaur at Rex's diner with cops all around him. He later receives a text message from Kush-Chronic and Daisy Belle telling him he has to pay their medical bills. 

Someone recorded the incident and it can be viewed on the in-game internet. In the video, Wade is seen hitting the dinosaur with a stick and throwing empty bottles at it while yelling obscenities.

6. Air Mail
Gerald instructs Lamar to get a drone. He tells Lamar that people can sometimes be found flying them at the beach. Lamar has to find a way to steal a drone and lose the wanted level. Later that night, Lamar brings the drone to Gerald. Gerald informs Lamar that they are going to use the drone to deliver drugs in order to avoid the police. Lamar has to pilot it to various locations while avoiding obstacles. On the final delivery, the drone crashes into a power line transformer causing a blackout which results in mayhem and looting throughout the city. Lamar takes advantage of the situation and steals some merchandise.

4. Needle in a Haystack
A man approaches Lamar outside of the dealership and says he knows Lamar repos cars. He asks Lamar if he'd be interested in making some extra money and Lamar says yes. The man tells Lamar that there is a very rare car that he has seen being driven around the city and he wants it. He shows Lamar a picture of the car and gives him his number. The car is hard to find and difficult to stop when it is located. Occasionally, the man will call Lamar telling him where the car has been spotted.

4. On the Air
On a rainy night in Blaine County, Wade notices a man pulled over on the side of the road trying to attach something to the top of his car. The man introduces himself as Ron and says he's trying to broadcast an important radio message to the community, but his equipment broke and the antenna won't stay up on its own. He says he wants to draw attention to the fact that all of the children in the state have mysteriously disappeared ,and he has to stay on the move while broadcasting to avoid being tracked and silenced by government agents. Ron asks Wade to drive while he stays on top of the car holding the antenna. Wade must drive fast enough to avoid getting located while retaining enough control so Ron doesn't fall off the the car. As he's driving, a bolt of lightning strikes the antenna sending Ron flying. Ron suffers burns and his left knee is badly injured. Wade must drive him to Sandy Shores Medical Center.

5. Creepin' and Peepin'
Lamar meets a man in Vespucci. The man says his name is Jack and tells Lamar that his wife is cheating on him, and he needs photographic evidence for the divorce case. He asks Lamar to take the photographs and Lamar agrees to do it. He gives Lamar his phone number and tells him where the house is. When Lamar gets there, he has to climb up to the balcony and take pictures of the couple inside the bedroom. As Lamar is sending the photos to Jack, the man in the house runs out and confronts Lamar. Lamar explains the situation to the couple and they say they're married and they have no idea who Jack is. Lamar calls the number and the man says, "My name's not Jack! Thanks for the pics, sucker!" Lamar has to escape before the cops show up.

9. Drifting Away 
Wade receives a frantic phone call from Daisy Belle who says she's lost at sea in a boat. She tells Wade she was drinking on the beach in Paleto Bay and she decided to take a nap on a boat that was tied to the pier. She says the boat must have broken loose due to the bad weather, and the keys are not in the boat and she can't swim. She begs Wade to rescue her. Wade drives to the beach and the only watercraft around is a jet ski being driven by someone close to the shore. Wade has to shoot the driver and swim out to the jet ski. He calls Daisy Belle and she describes her location using the mountains and position of the sun. Wade gets where he thinks she is, but he can't see her. Daisy Belle tells him she found a flare gun on the boat, but she's not sure how to use it. He tells her how it works, but she accidentally pulls the trigger while it's pointed at the boat and the boat catches on fire. Wade must locate the smoke and get to her before the boat sinks.

Holy sh*t man. All the one needs it creativity and the ability to think like the character, understand what they do in certain circumstances and what happened to them. This is a beautiful concept man. I would play it. Keep up the good work!

5. Blinded by the Light

A woman approaches Wade and asks if he'd like to do a job for her. She says she needs her brother to have a fatal accident. She tells Wade her brother is a crop duster pilot who sprays the vineyard every Tuesday. The woman gives Wade a powerful laser pointer and tells him to use it to blind her brother while he is flying the plane.

 

Wade drives to the vineyard and observes the pilot. He has to get in a location where the pilot will be flying directly towards him. If he fails to blind the pilot, Wade will get sprayed with pesticide and become dizzy from the fumes. If he's successful, the plane will veer to the side and crash. The woman will reward him with a book of coupons for free food at Burger Shot. If you visit Burger Shot, Wade will lament the fact that he has coupons but can't enter the restaurant. 

 

Lamar

 

6. Game Leak

As Lamar is walking in his neighborhood, 2 men drive up in a car and call him over. They ask Lamar if he wants to make some money. They tell him they work for a gaming website and they're trying to get information about a video game being developed. They say the company's lead developer eats lunch every day outdoors at Little Teapot tea and coffee house on Boulevard Del Perro. They give Lamar a bottle of sodium thiopental pills (truth serum drug) and tell him to slip one in the developer's drink to get him to talk.

 

Lamar drives to the coffee house and sees the man sitting at a table. He has to find a spot close to him and a mini-game begins. Lamar has to flick a pill into the developer's drink. He has 10 pills and he has to make sure no one is watching while he does it and the pills can't hit the man. If he is noticed, someone will call the police. If he gets one in the cup, Lamar has to go talk to him and ask him questions about the game. The men pay Lamar $500 for the information.
