Have you changed the way you play RDO?

Recommended Posts

LooseCanon

I just wondered if you’ve changed how you play, I used to play on my own and just do any dallies that happened as I moved around the map, doing missions etc.

one day I needed to do a posse daily so I used the posse up option, and found I enjoyed it, now I posse up every time, I’ve found some “friends”, I get invited when I log in from them, I’ve helped low level people with the game and story missions etc.

Ive started doing 7/7 dailes as well, so have you changed the way you play?

During the beta I mostly played solo.

Now (if I don't have a specific goal) I like to posse up with 6 other people. The stranger missions are more epic and fun if you have a large posse.

Nope, I still ride around, do a little hunting, the encounters, the odd mission here and there, enjoy the view, fish a little.

I am mostly just grinding money for the summer update, stuff I want and achievements.

And I still enjoy all of it.

I struggle to complete 7/7 dailies. Waiting out mission timers is a bad joke to me. I still enjoy killing these casual turds who think Dynamite arrows and explosive ammo will compensate for their lack of Freeaim skill.

I stopped playing for a few months when I got bored sh*tless with the lack of content.

I came back a couple of months ago and decided to play this way:

I started by spawning in New Austin, setting up my camp in gap tooth ridge and  doing gradually moving east, doing every stranger mission.  I would move my camp to each new area and do the stranger missions in that area.  I sometimes did multiple missions for the same stranger depending on where I ended up on the map after the previous mission.  I would also change my clothes to fit the character of each location I was camped in at the time. I would only hunt in the local area, although I would sell at the nearest butcher. I would always log out from camp.

Playing the game that way had a few benefits:

1.  It gave me an artificial sense of progression.

2.  It let me get more familiar with certain parts of the map that I never really hung around before.

3.  I became less focussed on grinding money and gold and more focussed on the playing experience.

Haven't changed the way I play, just the amount of time played. I'm good for about an hour before I'm over it.

Not really - in fact, my way of playing is pretty much how I used to play GTAO, back in the day.

Log in, check my dailies, see if there's anything that looks doable, give it a go, see where I wind up, get distracted by something nearby, do that, realise the lighting is good enough to take a photo/screenshot, figure I'm only a short amount of XP away from ranking up, do something to get over the line, and then notice I've got to do some daily in another game, so I swap over.

Granted, Forza Horizon eats up most of my time, because I've got things like weeklies/dailies to do in that... It's a bit of a double-edged sword that RDO doesn't have anything to make me play every day, because on the one hand, it means other things are a more pressing concern - but on the other, I do like that this is a persistent game that isn't nagging me to play every day, or where if I don't hit certain targets, I'll miss out on cool limited-time stuff.

Used to do freeroam missions, mostly. Now I hunt most of the time. Better grinding.

Yeah I’ve found hunting to be better way of grinding up rank and $. You can always mix it up with fishing. I will admit I also suck at PvP.

first in beta i was looking for bugs

then got on with hunting, doing some pvp in showdown, and maybe starngers after

when dailies dropped i did those, in the hope the game would pick up speed soon.

it didn't,just more hats no one wanted.

so i quit.

Like others said, I haven't changed the way I play but I have changed how much I have played.

I haven't started this game in about a month. We need more content, badly

I used a hunt and do story missions the whole time and mostly solo. Recently I've met a really nice group of people (who are in the UK too so that makes meeting up with them easier) and with them I started doing more stranger missions. Those are no fun on your own. I've also got better and PvP and enjoy getting into fights with other players. Not that I pick fights but if someone starts something then I'm happy to play and hopefully make them rage.

I do the dailies to farm gold bars. I do this in the hope that I can buy properties as soon as Rockstar will release them. I grinded so much cash in gta, I can purchase ten dlc's without shark cards.

The xp gained with the dailies is used to upgrade ability cards. I have most worthwhile ability cards.

I also bought most useful pamphlets and stable slots as there was a discount.

Most of the time I ride around solo in defensive. Sometimes I get griefed. I pull out the dynamite arrows and blow the griefers up.

I do more solo here than GTA as I prefer to fish/hunt/collect alone but once we get more co-op missions, I'm sure I'll get stuck right in. I loved heists and hope for more similar stuff.

But in lobbies I tend to avoid all players. Didn't have to in GTA as I could go passive or those I meet in co-op/heists and land in session with after, I could just jump in an invite and hang with more friends. I don't hang about in public here like I could in GTA.

Not sure where to put this so ill put it here.

today I think I griefed the griefers.

my mate and me did the 7/7 then decided to do one mission, it took us to san Denis, we got attacked by a 5 man posse, they killed us, fair enough, but then they kept killing us.

my mate got fed up and logged off, I just kept running at them, they killed me hundreds of times, but I just ran straight back at them, then I messaged them to wait there as I had to have something to eat.

they of course didn’t wait, upon my return I used recent players to find them and rejoined them, found one of their players afk, hogtied him to my horse and messaged them that I had their mate and to come and get him.

they did and continued to kill me, when they tried to do missions I dynamited the stranger, when they jumped lobbies I jumped with them.

i then got a message ‘you are insane’

i messaged back I’m not the one running, I never ran once, don’t start what you can’t finish.

all this probably lasted 2 hours, I killed them a few times, they killed me hundreds, hands down they were better than me, but it was fun 😎

I sometimes pretend I am in a movie: Pale Rider. I setup in Blackwater, and fish in front of the Butcher stand. When I catch a large Lake Sturgeon, I dance to the butcher like it was a large Gold Rock.

sometimes I get shot in the face, other times I get rich. @ 2.50 I engaged slippery bastrid -but my deadeye drained

Since the update dropped I haven’t been near a stranger mission, those poor people must be wondering what’s happened to all the outlaws.

Honestly, a few months before the update I played with a couple of friends in their Posse. (We'd actually switch out when one person got bored of being the Leader.) We did stranger missions, story missions, helped with dailies, etc, etc.

Fished a lot as well. Was easily my favorite activity.

Now with the update, I'm back to being solo like I was in the early part of the beta. Lol. I prefer to do my own progression in stuff like roles and what not. I'm far more passive now as well. I'd run someone out of the lobby if they killed me for no reason, now I just ride off and only bother with them if they go out of the way. But I still ride into the middle of gun fights cause the old habit of 'Go on. Shoot me. I dare ya.' is still there. Hah. I'll Posse up still, but it's once or twice a week instead of every night.

And I no longer fish. I threw a line near Blackwater a week ago, reeled it in after bout 5 seconds.

I used to run PvP a fair bit. It feels a little lackluster lately so I've been avoiding it more then normal.

I have indeed. I don't bother with hideouts or camp defenses anymore. Well, a hideout can still be sort of fun, but camp defenses don't interest me anymore.

I also don't hunt animals much anymore, don't sell much to butchers either. I roam the lands with a metal detector glued to my hand and complete collections to sell to the hot gipsy lady.

I use slow and steady instead of Slippery. When I'm not using deadeye I'm no longer holding down the run button for faster strafing anymore.

With the low animal spawns. I find myself "ass out", when looking for squirrels and other small game.

Now, every shot counts.

Haha same, I'll probably start going back to them sometimes once I've got rank 20 Bounty Hunter finished though, still solid income if you hunt, fish and now also collect during the timer. Only difference is now I'll be more focused on hunting for Cripps rather than the butcher.

I think collector role has ruined the game, we used to do missions etc press accept then crack on with the required job, now its press accept start to go where we need to go, but along they way all you hear is ‘Stop, stop, Ive  got vibrations here’.

In Beta I played a lot, but got bored after reaching 65lvl. It was grindfest for hours. Now I came back week ago and I'm already over 115lvl. Already got 20 in all three roles, but it's still fun.

Doing daily challenges, weekly legendary missions, weekly collections. Now with proper payouts for multiple jobs I can finally unlock clothes, weapons and ability cards without being bored to death after grinding one cougar spot or fishing for hours. I started to mix things up. Starting session with some supply run and huntings. When Cribbs work I do some collecting or bounties to lvl up new ability cards and try them out. Joined group Discord, so we help each other (as higher lvl I enjoy helping lower lvls).

I go to my camp every day since the roles were introduced and most of the time before my camp wasn’t even pitched and if it was I only went in it if I was passing it and needed ammo.

Same. I even upgraded it and always go to my camp, before I log off again. I'm feeling quite annoyed without a camp now. It's also the best place to go afg for a while. Opening the locker doesn't trigger the afg counter. Comes in handy if you have a good camp spot and need to do something else.

Ah, didn’t know that about the locker another excellent use for it, I’ll try that when I’m on later.
