It's mostly one lane trails and if those cars were to drive off "road", they'd likely not last very long. I can see people now trying to drive them through Ambarino and getting stuck in the snow or falling off the edge of the mountain. It just wouldn't work and is probably best to keep the modes of transportation they way they are with horses and the like. Lonely-Martin
Yeah, as I said, not too keen on cars coming to RDRO. But the argument of immersion or it breaking reality isn't enough to say no, we've got those ability cards after all, and I don't remember reading many cowboys and girls rushing to buy a hat so they can survive headshots back in the day. Edited July 30, 2019 by Lonely-Martin Lobby choice would solve it though. Add cars and invite only. Let us play our West. :) DentureDynamite, Kremita and -LN-

I really don't give a fk how you have fun and didn't say anything to the contrary. Just because cars were being manufactured during that time, still doesn't make it realistic for them to be purchased or even be in the game. It has nothing to do with what I think looks good, but rather what would be period correct. Just because you have $10k (I have $30k), doesn't change the game dynamics or who we are. We're cowboys and gunslingers, we wouldn't have the means to own one, regardless of how much in game money we have. If cars were as popular as you think they were at the time, ("Cars have existed since 1886, and have been common enough to be purchasable by the upper classes since 1895.") why is it that we don't see any, at least as a static object? Leftover Pizza
Cars around that time had less speed than a horse, so they would be quite useless and be very easy to kill players in, even with @ALifeOfMisery's aiming skills I hope they won't go there and am quite confident they avoid the efforts of creating a dealership and service points in the current world. They'd have to create additional storage too. Can't store a car at a stable. ALifeOfMisery, darkmaster234, -LN- and 2 others

ALifeOfMisery
I don't think they'll be added but I'm not completely against period authentic vehicles being added. They'd be extremely limited in their usefulness in general, off road they would be awful and they would be a worse choice overall that a horse. If players wanted to put themselves at a disadvantage or simply own one as a collector's piece, eh, why not. Driving one would be like wearing a bullseye though. I'd defy anyone to drive for longer than 5 minutes in a town before getting hit with a dynamite arrow. 1898
The GTA events like land splitting, parachuting from the highest height etc. take place in a live map from where ever you happen to be at the time. That's how I'd like to see hunting and fishing competitions. Yeah, you might get greifed, but I'd rather take that chance than have everyone fishing in a barrel or hunting the same 1/2 acre. As for vehicles, I ride IRL and love vintage bikes but they would seem out of place here. Instead, I'd love to see a Prohibition Era game and all the cars and bikes from that period. But if they offer them in RDRO, I will be one of the first at the dealer.

The model T first went on sale in 1908, and remained virtually unchanged for the rest of its lifespan. It was not dramatically different from the cars that came before it, and was only popular because it was cheap. Motorcycles were an option as well: https://www.motosport.com/blog/the-evolution-of-the-motorcycle-part-three-the-first-american-motorcycles 8 hours ago, CMCSAVAGE said: Let's get the "bold" part out of the way first. Shouldn't there be some parked outside those big homes in Saint Denis? Clearly you did, considering this thread was simply asking what we’d LIKE to see in Red Dead and you took it upon yourself to tell me what I wanted to see didn’t fit your vision of what the game should have. If you didn’t give a sh*t, you would’ve kept your mouth shut. But you didn’t, and here we are. “Realistic” “period correct” motor cars are both for 1898. The reason cars weren’t popular in the old west was because they were expensive and there was no infrastructure to maintain them. Think: electric cars now. If someone had the means and the will to own one, they would. I in-game have both. So why couldn’t my character have a car brought in from San Francisco or St Louis or Denver, all nearby cities with a thriving motor industry at the time? ‘We wouldn’t have the means to own one’ is a terrible excuse and you know it. Just look at the sh*t we’ve been able to do and own despite being criminals in GTAO since day one. There’s plenty of ahistorical stuff in the game already. Animals well out of their natural ranges, bison were basically extinct in 1899 and you wouldn’t see them in the wild, weird geography, European imported guns you wouldn’t see in the west. Being allowed to openly carry guns in towns and especially in cities, which is something most small towns disallowed by the 1890s precisely because of bandits going around breaking the law. I question that as well. The same question goes for bicycles. In the 1890s, bicycles were a HUGE international fad. Every major city you’d see thousands of them. Yet we don’t see a single one in-game for whatever reason. In 1900, the New York-New Jersey area alone had something like 30 different automobile manufacturers. 7 hours ago, AmyStone said: And how long do you realistically expect a car to last going over that kind of terrain? OK, fine. You have your car. I'll stick with the more practical horse. That’s the thing. as was pointed out in an earlier post, there really were no real roads outside of cities. Cars HAD to be designed to handle rough terrain, because that’s all that was available. Why do you think they have such tall ride heights and wide wheel tracks? It’s so they could clear snow and mud without getting stuck. They were also dog simple to repair, because they had to be. It it broke down in the wilderness, you had to be able to fix it yourself. And before you say “it’s unrealistic to be able to repair it in the wild in-game”, it’s also unrealistic to heal our horse with just an injection of something after we ride it off a cliff and shatter its legs. Cars back then were designed for the environment they’d be operated in, just as they are now. And ultimately that’s what they’d end up being. Impractical showcases for our wealth and status. You know, what they were in reality at the time. The vast majority of players would just ride a horse. So there, everybody wins. I get my impractical finnicky car that I stubbornly refuse to not drive, and the other 99% of players just ride their horses and only take their car out to show how much money they have. Just like the expensive unweaponised aircraft in GTAO. KangCheng
