AmyStone
Tonic pamplets are such a rip off. I've only bought the potent miracle tonic but wish I'd saved my money. I'm definitely not going to buy any more. It costs $535. You need 18 plants to brew it. Those plants are worth $4.50 at the doctor. To buy the tonic it's $7. That means I'm only saving $2.50 each time I brew it, and that's a bit of a faff. That means I have to brew 214 of them just to get my money back. It's probably worse than that because while I'm collecting the three different plants I max out of one type which means I can't collect any more of them while I'm collecting the others. So I might actually be losing money by trying to make my own. So if anyone is thinking of buying pamplets, do a bit of maths first and see if it's worth the bother. I's nothing for something that can't be acquired any other way. Will probably be really useful when trapper role is released. It's on sale now too. You mean "Special". And yeah it is a ripoff considering you brew the Potent for free with 12 plants, it just doesn't last ass long. 3 hours ago, Rokushakubo said: I's nothing for something that can't be acquired any other way. If an animal is 3 stars, it still has like a 95% chance of still being 3 stars using a varmint rifle. The only exception would be a chipmunk or a squirrel, which aren't worth killing anyway. You could say that about the normal arrow and Lancaster too but gloss over the advantage of the bow, namely not scaring away the rest of the local wildlife. rusbeckia
CosmicBuffalo
They used to have a purpose, the tonics at least, because free roam was more fighting, but they are kindve pointless. It takes a lot of effort to refill tonics that have more than 1 herb. The Dedito Gae
-LN-
Small Arrow was the first one I bought; aside from Split Point, if I recall. I don't use them that often, but they work well if you want perfect snakes, smaller birds, etc. I even got an award the first time I killed a smaller bird with one, but I think it's better to break those down - regardless of their quality. I've not bought any of the other tonic pamphlets, but I did get the special horse stimulant from a treasure map. I haven't even used it since I bought the Nacogdoches though; the potent variant seems to works just as well! I dunno, they're all so expensive and while I'd like to pick up a few more of the ammunition pamphlets, the tonics don't really seem like they'd be of much overall benefit for me personally. Dead Eye seems to drain every time you switch lobbies, enter showdown, etc and health and stamina are usually easy enough to keep full(ish) from the standard and potent variants. Aside from that, I only do PvP sometimes when they're part of the daily challenges, so I'm thinking they wouldn't be of much use, worth the price, nor the routine of having to craft them at this time. They're good for chipmunks, squirrels, frogs, small birds and snapping turtles, none of which you have any chance of getting 3 stars with the Varmint. Not a huge value, still, but I like having my small game arrows.
wehweh01
Personally, I own all the pamphlets but the only ones I craft tonic wise is the free ones you start with. All about that Potent Bitters, Health Cure, and Snake Oil. Then again if I have spare ingredients while plant hunting I'll craft the special ones as well. I do sell the herbs I gather but only when I know I'm picking up stuff I won't be crafting. I don't go out of my way to gather plants either. I do it whenever I'm on the way to someplace whether it be a Stranger Mission or killing time during a Stranger Rescue.
Van_Hellsing
I collected quite a few pamphlets. In day to day life I only use the free recipes, because the ingredients are easy to get. Potent health cure and normal snake oil are the most used. The normal snake oil only requires one Indian tobacco and you can carry twenty. The special miracle tonic requires you to go to the three corners of the map. It also requires six herbs. So for one tonic, you have to make one round trip. The stamina tonics are useless, because if your stamina is full, the peak condition card won't work. And they drain very fast if you go swimming. Horse stimulant is rarely used as I have the Nacogdoches saddle. The volatile fire bottle and dynamite require animal fat, which I want to reserve for explosive ammo. Fire arrows are used for destroying cargo. I got so many from the care package that I have enough for free. I do craft a lot of split ammo, because it is slightly more powerful and requires less dead eye. With two LeMats you can use a lot of bullets. Pocket Fox
The only pamphlets worth a damn are explosive express ammo, dynamite arrows and incendiary buckshot. The other's, eh, not needed. Failed Again
