I was wrong about GTA IV all the time

Dead wrong. @SonOfLiberty was right all the time, and i was one of the people trashing him over GTA IV vs. V back then. I was wrong all the time defending a game which holds rather little replay value outside of it's online portion over GTA IV. Yeah, V had flashes of pure excellence and was, at the time, considered a technical marvel in terms of storytelling, gameplay, features and it's overall vision (still sets the bar among open-world games). BUT, as i recently refreshed my memory having watched some GTA IV retrospective videos i was totally starstrucked by the way that game still holds up in 2019. It's amazing physics, the way cars/police/NPC's behave, gun dynamics, things to do postgame (TLAD/TBoGT), a mature, well-written abd cohesive storyline (which i didn't appreciate until the time i grew a little bit older). As a 21 y/o guy back in 2013, GTA V was the definite GTA going my the mindset i was having at the time.

I remember staying up until late back in the time, doing all shorts of crazy and goofy stuff in GTA IV outside of story mode. And it felt natural. It felt organic and seamless. It felt as if every action is a part of a real-breathing world, dictating it's own unique rules upon the player. Driving reckless all messed up, car all wrecked up, you'd get punished  Cops actually giving you a fair challenge. You felt in control all the time, because any action has an actual reaction in GTAIV's LC. NPC's actions were a reflection of what a real person would do irl. There was a sense of caution and responsibility behind every action you'd take.

On the other hand, little to none of these things apply in GTA V. Driving is sure more responsive and accesible, but the sense of caution is gone. Every car starts to feel the same after a period of time. There's no suspension physics, damage is heavily nerfed. Any supercar can actively serve as a Pikes-Peak offroad vehicle at any singe time. NPC physics are also gone. Getting ejected out of a windshield, feels as if you's fall of from a bicycle. Shooting someone on its feet, he's dead. Police is so aggresive that it's impossible to start a cat and mouse game, cause they attempt to clip you immediately. Everything feels like it exists just "to exist" in-game.

So there you have it. Not only i think GTA IV is the best in series, but it's also the most underappreciated one. I feel that a full-remaster for current gen connsole is the only way that would do the game justice, mainly due to how badly the game performed in last-gen hardware. A recent example is the BC Xbox One X version of the way, which makes the game truly shine on that system.

TWIST_OF_HATE

I want to build high-end PC with 4K monitor just to play GTA IV on max settings with 60+ fps ))

11 years after IV released, and I still remember this masterpiece as poorly optimized game without anti aliasing, and I really want to finally change this !

As for GTA V - it sucks.Of cource, it is still a GTA game, and it is great anyway, but for me personally, I hate this game for rotten storyline and a bunch of engine downgrades in comparison with IV

It's good to see I can make a difference.

But to be fair I'm kinda over the whole GTA IV vs GTA V debate myself. After 6 years or so arguing over the two I just don't see the point anymore, but atleast you've given GTA IV another chance. I remember some of our arguments lol. No harm done.😉

I’m glad you’ve seen the light, OP.

I, for one, will admit that I’m oftentimes too harsh on V. It’s a great game, don’t get me wrong, but my resentment toward it stems from the fact that it diverges so much from the winning formula R* had with IV. And, as far as I’m concerned, that formula allows IV to top V in pretty much every conceivable category (I guess I have to give graphics to V, even though they do look a bit too polished and cartoony in many instances). With that said, idk if it’s even possible for another game to capture me quite like IV did back in 2008—it’s just that fantastic.

not only downgraded the elements of gta 4, it also downgraded the elements of rdr and mp3. combat ai was too much of a downgrade. of course graphics and draw distance too. they look great now on current gen but they were really bad after mp3 and rdr back in the day when the game was released on old gen

GTA IV will always be a better game, but that doesn't mean GTA V doesn't have its own strengths too. Sometimes more than GTA IV does. I think the best conclusion to come to is they both have their strengths and weaknesses in different ways. However I just think GTA IV done more with what it had in 2008 and being the first HD era GTA than GTA V did in 2013.

Hopefully GTA VI doesn't do away with the things that make GTA V great.

GTA IV got what it deserved by media that's why I'm comfortable and peaceful about this game. At least IV got enough amount of appreciation from media and review sites. It is rated as third highest rated game on the Metacritic for all platforms and all times, behind Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2. Nearly all of the review sites gave it 10/10.

But from both casual and hardcore GTA community, unfortunately it got too much noisy, annoying criticisms. They compared this game with San Andreas but it was an unnecessary comparison because with this game a matured and realism based era has been started for the whole series. Rockstar focused mainly on mechanics, physics, realistic details, choices that you can decide and even only an interactive cell phone itself was a big step for the whole game that's why they didn't think about messing with pointless activities, huge map and other game elements from the San Andreas.. oh wait I should've said The Sims. Also, they improved many activities from San Andreas and made it better. For example: dating system, interactive activities with your friend and they added new ones such as: TV and internet.

My main problem with annoying IV haters is, they never criticised V as they did in IV. I only saw people in these forum generally do this but outside of this forum there is an another world who praise GTA V all time without any clue.
