Should Slippery Bastard be Nerfed.

I'm just on this because I'm really annoyed there's no way to defend well against a person using this ability.

I tackle them, sometimes with rope equipped and just leave them hogtied.

It should drain faster when carrying important cargo like satchels in some gamemodes but other than that no not really. Use PIB to hard counter or keep your distance and use a sniper rifle or get good at freeaiming with a shotgun

Not at all. If anything, Paint It Black deserves a (minor) nerf, of not being able to be used in situations that are meant to be free aim (races where lock on is disabled, vs Slippery Bastards, etc.).

Shotguns work, explosives work, lasso can work if they're a bit slow - and one of my favourites, sniping from a distance. I see someone using it going for my bag, thinking they can't be hit. Bang! They're on the floor, with no idea how they got hit.

I don't own it, but I see it being used quite often during Showdowns whenever I play them for the daily challenges. Like most ability cards, it sort of ruins these game modes for me; especially in ones like "Spoils of War", where it often seems to be used to grab the loot and quickly escape. I know they probably won't do anything, but at the very least, it plus all other ability cards should be prohibited during competitive game modes.

It's the card I hate the most. I'd be happy to see it go completely or at least be limited in certain Showdowns. As soon as I see someone use it in something like Spoils of War I usually quite out because to me it feels like cheating. If you have a couple of people on a team using it then theres no way to stop them winning.

No, it does not because shotguns, ex ammo or dynamite arrows do exist and also paint it black is a very solid counter. Someone running slippery won't by default have slow and steady on and even if he runs never without one you just have to paint his face. Really not that hard.

Most the time I seen the scenario where you are loosing a showdown to the enemy team having several sb runners that's only because half your team does not have a clue and they( the opponents) actually cooperate.

Well that's pretty much the same for all of them. Unless you're in a posse and happen to get on the same team then everyone will just play for themselves and not the team.

Practice at getting better in free aim and/or use shotguns.

People only dislike it, because it makes the super-easy, no skill lock-on system not work.

Wait what?! Did the OP make the same thread twice? Anyway, like I said in the other SB is easily counterable with PIB (or you could just git gud at free aim and stuff). I've killed so many slip users its gotten to the point where I'm no longer startled. Just practice painting the head and you won't have many problems dealing with these kind of players in future.

Edit: Nevermind they merged the threads.

No, PIB should be nerfed.  It should become free aim when activated and take a split second to paint.  It should also remain active after firing.

The reason this card is so powerful is because the games free aim mechanics are trash. Running at someone in zigzag with this card on being one of the most popular PvP meta's is a sign that something is very wrong, running at somebody in a shooting game shouldn't be a good idea.

Yes, any one who says otherwise doesn't deserve an opinion quite frankly. They're obviously using it themselves

It's far too OP and unfair, completely unbalanced!

Wrong, I don't use it. But to be fair I think all abilty cards should go. I really enjoyed PvPin rdr1 and was hoping for more of the same. Can't believe they didn't even put the standoffs in.

SB is a bone they threw to players who want free-aim only lobbies, unfortunately we'll never see them. Wouldn't be the same anyhow unless they were also cardless.

The thing worries me most is the possibility of more cards to come.

Agreed; I'd welcome free aim only lobbies, but yea, this is a case of people using it heavily to their advantage and then switching back to auto aim, rinse, repeat. As @Jason also said, the free aim/PvP shooting mechanics here are not the greatest in the world and it's quite easy to avoid being killed by others; especially when this is combined with certain other ability cards and when you're just running around in zig-zag patterns to grab something and avoid the bullets of other players.

I too worry about the addition of others and what they might be like; unfortunately I also can't see them adding options to disable them within certain game modes either. 😕

Failed Again

I'm confused as to how PIB can counter SB-

when you  can't even aim at them.? Are you saying easy because you are in free aim mode vs auto?

I think I may need a new controller- because pib is very unreliable for me-rarely marks the target(lvl3)

not sure if its because I have the Xbox one(non s/x)

Use the double barrell or sawed off shotguns.  PIB extends the 1 hit kill range of these weapons and are pretty overpowered against SB.

IMO showdowns are won by the teams who are willing to use the most resources; tonics, special ammo, tobacco and etc. I never use any consumables or special ammo in showdowns so I can maximize profit.

The reason I mention this is that Slippery Bastard pretty much relies on topping up dead-eye on the run. PIB you can top up dead-eye with Cold Blooded.

To be completely honest, even as someone with what I consider to be all the useful cards upgraded to tier 3, I'd scrap the current Ability Card system completely.

In another thread, some time ago, @Jason posted an alternative to how Ability Cards currently work which was infinitely more interesting.

I'd go a step further than the sentiment that free aim in RDO is trash. All PvP mechanics in RDO are trash. The auto aim is too heavy for PvP and free aiming almost forces a meta which would be laughable if it wasn't so ridiculous.

Watching characters that are supposed to be Old West outlaws chug potions to fuel their magical powers run at opponents head on in zig zag patterns while constantly belly flopping is painful.

It's almost as if the combat in RDO was completely designed for PvE in an epic, story driven single player experience, then, R* being R*, instead of making alterations for a PvPvE environment, they pushed the f*ck it button, threw some magical powers on top of the mechanics designed for PvE, gave themselves a pat on the back and called it a day.

Before I get a "if you don't like it, don't play it" type reply, I love RDO, the atmosphere of the game is spot on, the PvE missions are good, it has so much potential and the world itself is stunning.

The PvP is still utter garbage though.

No, it wasn't. It was designed by people who still think it's the 90's and that people can't aim in video games. They've proven they can make a FANTASTIC shooter experience with Max Payne 3, but for GTA and RDR they stick it being built around auto aim and then fiddle with the camera to make it more cinematic with no care about the damage it does to free aim.

It's genuinely some of the most archaic design / thinking in modern gaming. It's 2019, people from 5 to 105 can aim in a video game, it's not hard, so why is it so hard for Rockstar to build the game around it? Why is free aim so weirdly clunky and horrible? Why do we have ability cards literally designed with the assumption that everyone will use auto aim?

It's probably why the PC version is taking so long, having to fix all this sh*te for keyboard and mouse because seriously, did no one at Rockstar think "hang on, what's the point of this card when keyboard and mouse hits with free aim as standard?". It's ridiculous when you think about it.

RDR2 received a lot criticism for how it controls and my god do I hope it finally made the Houser's ears ring. GTA VI being a proper, genuine, open world shooter is an absolute must, not this on the rails style lock on sh*t that we can't fix until the PC version comes out.

I'm in it to win it, I abuse the f*ck out of this card strictly because I want to win whatever mode I'm playing.

I'm not against a Nerf tho, I just use the shotgun with Incendiary rounds to counter those that use it. Seems to have better spread and lights their ass up.

No, I think the PC version is taking so long because they are too scared to release it. Everyone knows how awful GTAO was on PC because of how easy it was to mod it that they are trying to make sure that won't happen in RDO. But even console versions have had exploits so it's going to be almost impossible.

Yesterday i had a blast. Not in RDO of course, but in RDR multiplayer. Played Gang Matches for 3 hours straight. Everyone had map specific weapons+pickups, only card is Paint it Black and to fill your dead eye meter you must kill players without it. no tonics. Such a refreshment after Showdowns with their long load screens, lame maps and ability cards. Oh yeah, muthaphukin standoffs, oh boy oh boy, so fun.

Then i played Undead Overrun with 3 other dudes and we lasted till round 37. That's was just WOW.

By the way, it was full session all the time. Amazing. Gonna do it again tonight. 😁

I don't like the ability cards at all.

I agree about Autoaim being clunky and unreliable. It worked in RDR1, but they really f*cked it this time around

I'm at the same place where you are. Hate the cards but i use them cause i like to win. Run, pop in SB, get close, out of SB, kill that low level dude, pop out, rinse and repeat. Gets tedious after a while cause i don't know was that kill really mine or it belongs to my cards and tonics. Also, i feel sorry for all the low levels who die so much in Showdowns.

I don't feel good about myself when i use them and massacre low levels but as the old saying goes: "don't hate the player, hate the game". Meaning i have no other option but to use them if i want to stay competitive.

I've said it once but I'll say it again. Slippery Bastard should force you to use Freeaim settings. Problem solved.
